Twisted Ties of Love

Chapter 68

"It's not impossible for you to go out and work," Brett relented. "But you'll have to prepare breakfast and dinner for me every day, just like before, according to my tastes." Izabella knew he would have conditions, so she asked, "What if I don't agree?"

"Then forget about going out," Brett knew that Izabella was stubborn, and it would take more than just a day or two to tame her. "You know, I can totally do it."

In a way, Brett, the kind who ignores the law, really could do it unless...he went bankrupt like her. But the chance of that happening was very slim.

"Why don't you just let Kaley make food for you? It looked like her sweet talk at the dinner table last time was just your cup of tea. Why not have her do it?" Brett said indifferently, "I'm tired of her cooking and want a change of taste. Behave yourself, or I'll lock you in the room again like last time."

She was going nuts already; if she really got locked up, she would probably go even crazier.

"Wow, you're so picky," Izabella said mockingly.

"Will you do it or not?" Brett raised his voice.

"I will." As long as she could go out, what would two meals a day matter? Besides, if Brett could get tired of Kaley's cooking, maybe he wouldn't last long with hers either.

As long as Izabella was alive, she still had hope.

When they arrived at Quiet Forest Estates, Brett parked the car and carried Izabella into the house.

As soon as she entered, Izabella saw the sandwiches all over the living room floor. No doubt they were the result of Brett's anger.

Her injured knee made it difficult for her to move around, and Brett was not the kind who would clean up on his own. The broken glass and blood in the bedroom probably hadn't been dealt with either. Izabella limped to the phone to call the cleaning service downstairs. Just as she dialed, Brett, who had changed his clothes, asked, "Who are you calling?"

The look in his eyes was like that of a cat catching a mouse, or that of a cheating wife. Izabella was disgusted and explained, "The house is filthy. I'm calling a maid to clean up."

"I've already hired one. She'll be here soon."

Upon hearing this, Izabella hung up the phone.

She sat on the sofa for a while, staring idly at a book, doing nothing. At four o'clock in the afternoon, the maid Brett had called arrived.

She was a woman in her forties. Izabella carefully inspected everyone who entered her home. This woman looked ordinary, but her gaze... She couldn't tell if it was just her imagination, but she felt like this maid's eyes were harboring ill intentions.

"Hello, President Windham and Ms. Salotti."

Brett nodded, "Trista, you'll be living in the maid's room on the first floor. Clean up when the house is dirty, and just make lunch every day."

Trista had been working as a maid for many years and knew the routine well. However, she was surprised to hear that she wouldn't have to prepare breakfast and dinner.

"Who will make breakfast and dinner then?"

"Someone else will take care of that. Just help out when needed." Brett glanced at Izabella as he spoke. Trista understood what he meant and nodded with a smile.

Trista moved her luggage to the maid's room and started cleaning up. She cleaned from the ground floor to the second floor. Luckily, the villa was not too big, otherwise it would have been too hard for one person to clean.

"I need to go upstairs." Izabella looked at Brett, raising her bandaged knee. The meaning was clear.

"You could say please, you know" Brett said, but he still bent down to pick her up.

Upon going upstairs, Izabella found her phone and started looking for a job right away. Ignoring her previous position as the president of the Salotti Group, her high education alone would make it easy for her to find a job.

Izabella checked out a few companies. She just wanted something to pass the time, as long as the work environment was good and positive. She didn't care about salary or benefits. She put together a resume and sent it to several places.

Brett watched unreservedly from the side. After checking out several companies, he then took out his phone and texted Liam: no company in R City is allowed to employ Izabella.

Izabella had no idea that as soon as she sent out her resume, she was betrayed by Brett.

After finishing with her job applications, Izabella saw that it was already six o'clock.

"Go cook."

Izabella jumped in surprise. Following the sound of his voice, she looked back to see Brett sitting on the couch, his arm resting on the armrest, his sleeve rolled up to reveal his muscular forearm. Judging by his posture, he had been sitting there for a while, but she had been so busy with her resume that she hadn't noticed the extra person in the room.

"How come you're still here? Shouldn't you be at the hospital with Kaley?" Izabella asked with a heavy tone of disdain.
