Chapter 18
The concert went quite smoothly that night which was fortunate for Abigail since Sara barely left her side. Just before the end of the concert, the girls were rushed to a bus where the guys would be joining them and they would all be driven to the hotel.
Half an hour later, at the hotel, the guys’ bodyguards escorted them up to their room. Abigail walked into her room, unaware that she was being followed and paused in the hallway when she spotted Rick’s bags. She heard the door shut behind her and turned around to face Rick.
“What?” he asked when he saw her confused face.
“I thought this was my room?” she said.
“It is.” Rick replied as he walked over to the sofa and started pulling off his shoes and socks.
“Then what are you and your stuff doing here?”
He paused and got up to face her.
“We’re sharing a room.” He told her, “I thought you were aware of that.”
Abigail shook her head as he walked towards her.
“I already told you that everyone already thinks-“
“That we’re sleeping together!” she finished, her voice rising.
“Geez, you don’t have to say it like that.” He said, “Does the thought scare you?”
Quite the reverse actually, she thought, but didn’t dare say.
“Abby, I made it very clear at the beginning, what things were going to be like when you came on tour.” He told her.
She shook her heard again.
“No you didn’t. You just said they thought we were more than friends.”
“Exactly.”
She sighed and he put his hands on her shoulders and made her look at him.
“Look, don’t worry about it. You can have the bed, I’ll take the sofa.” He told her.
“You’re the big pop star.” She countered, “You take the bed. You need your beauty sleep.”
“You know I couldn’t do that.”
“It’s fine really.” Abigail insisted.
He shook his head as if to end the discussion.
“You can have the bathroom first while I go talk to Ryan about our interview for tomorrow.” He told her walking towards the door.
“You have an interview tomorrow?” she asked her hands on her hips.
“Oops.” He replied as he paused in the doorway and gave her a sheepish grin. “I’ll tell you about it when I get back.”
Abigail sighed and shook her head as she picked up her stuff and headed into the large bathroom thinking about how she was going to get through the next couple of hours, sharing a room with the one person who, she was beginning to realize had the power to make her forget her reasons for being there in the first place. She had a feeling that she was the one who was going to need the protection… from him.
