The night of the triplets' birthday ball arrives too quickly, and I find myself standing in front of the mirror, staring at the dress Leo gave me. It's a beautiful thing, all lace and silk. I slip it on as I smooth the fabric over my hips. It looks like the kind of dress you would have fantasized about as a child reading princess fairy tales. But alas, my life is not a fairy tale. "This is it," I mutter to myself.

I arrive at the mansion where the triplets had their party. This is another King family property. As I stepped in, I felt out of place among the opulence and the crowd of wealthy, drunken teens. The place is buzzing with excitement, the music loud and the alcohol flowing freely. I weave through the crowd, searching for Arya. The only good thing to come out of this party is that Arya will be there. I begged her to come, otherwise I don't know if I would have been clinical enough to survive this night.

Music pulses through the air, the bass thumping like a heartbeat. Bodies move on the dance floor, a writhing mass of drunken, euphoric teens. The scent of alcohol and sweat mingles with the heady aroma of expensive perfumes and colognes, making my head spin.

"Emily!" a familiar voice calls out, barely audible over the music. I turn to see Arya weaving her way towards me, a look of concern etched on her face.

"Hey," I say, relief washing over me at the sight of my best friend. "Thank the Moon you're here. I was starting to feel like I was drowning in a sea of designer labels and trust funds."

Arya laughs, her eyes sparkling with mirth. "So tonight you will..."

I crack a smile, feeling some of the tension ease from my shoulders. "Yes. Arya, tell me I'm doing the right thing, Rejecting-The-Triplets.."

"You are." Arya nods, then takes a sip of the wine she is holding, "Em, end this before the members of the pack get it all figured out."

"Okay, "I hold out my hand, "Let's see if my hand is steady."

She takes my hand and grins, giving me a playful shove. "You are shivering, honey."

"Crap." Arya is right. My hands are shaking. I feel a knot of anxiety tighten in my stomach.

"Hey, Em! Think about how we saw them bullying two omega wolves on the playground on our first day of school. They would eat you alive if you became their mate! You must do this!"

I take a deep breath. I silently recite to myself. The triplets are not for me. They are bad. Bad bad.

"Right, Arya. I must do it."I say to Arya, a quick hug with my dear friend.

I square my shoulders as I turn back to the crowd. "Get yourself a glass of champagne, girl! You can do it." Arya says behind me.

An hour later, I'm starting to feel like I'm chasing my own tail. I've almost searched every room, every corner of the mansion. Of course, there were some rooms that I couldn't disturb, as I could tell by the sounds that there was some "private" activity going on in there. But where are the triplets? It's like they've vanished into thin air. Didn't they host this damn party?

I'm about to give up and find Arya when a waiter appears at my elbow, holding out a tray of shimmering drinks. "Champagne, miss?" he asks, his voice smooth and polished.

I hesitate, eyeing the bubbling liquid with uncertainty. I'm not much of a drinker.

But the waiter is insistent, pressing the glass into my hand with a charming smile. "Go on, miss. It's a special blend. I'm sure they'd want you to enjoy it."

I stare down at the glass in my hand, the champagne glittering like liquid gold. Oh, what the hell. One drink won't hurt, right?

I tip the glass to my lips and take a sip, the bubbles dancing on my tongue. It's sweet and crisp, with a subtle undercurrent of something I can't quite place.

I drain the glass in a few gulps, feeling the alcohol buzz through my veins. Arya is so right. I hiccuped. Alcohol brings courage. Now I might be able to search this house again until I see those three big bad wolves.

There! I spot them near the grand staircase, surrounded by admirers. Hahaha. Mama is coming. But as I set the glass down on a nearby table, a wave of dizziness washes over me, making me stumble. Weird. Weird. Weird.

My skin feels hot and tight, like I'm burning up from the inside out.

"What the..." I mutter, pressing a hand to my forehead. I feel strange, off-balance, like the world is tilting on its axis.

I need to find a bathroom, need to splash some water on my face and clear my head. I push my way through the crowd, my vision blurring at the edges. And I hear Eartha howls.

"What's wrong? Eartha. I feel so... strange."

"Emily, something's wrong," Eartha is going crazy inside my head, panting"I'm in heat. But that's impossible, we're not due for our cycle."

"No, no." I stumble down a hallway, my legs shaking beneath me. If Eartha is feeling the effects too, then this is more than just a case of too much champagne.

Just as I sense the danger, an unfamiliar man grabs me, pulling me close. He's tall and broad, with dark hair and even darker eyes. He's wearing a suit, but something about him seems off, like he doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the partygoers.

And his scent... His scent is wrong, not belonging to the Windridge Pack. A rogue! I try to cry out, but he chokes me hard, the pain mixing with the effects of the drug, making me delirious.

He purrs, his voice like silk over gravel. "What do we have here? A pretty little she-wolf, all alone and ripe for the taking."he purrs, his voice like silk over gravel.

I try to pull away, but his grip is like iron, his fingers digging into my skin. "Let me go," I snarl, baring my teeth. "I don't know who you are, but you're making a big mistake."

He chuckles, a low, menacing sound that sends shivers down my spine. "Oh, I don't think so. You see, I've been watching you all night. And now I'm going to take what I want."

His words hit me. He drugged me! That drink. I try to scream, but he clamps a hand over my mouth, muffling my cries. "Shh, don't fight it, little wolf. It'll all be over soon."

He drags me deeper into the shadows, his hands pawing at my dress, tearing at the delicate fabric. I thrash and struggle, but it's like I'm moving through molasses, my limbs heavy and useless.

Eartha is going crazy, howling and snapping, but even she is weakened by the drug coursing through our system. His intentions are clear. Just as my clothes start to tear, a voice cuts through the haze of desperation. "Get your filthy hands off her, you fucking bastard."

I've never been so happy to hear Leo's voice in my entire life.

The triplets burst into the alcove, their eyes glowing with rage and power. Leo lunges for the rogue, his fist connecting with his jaw with a sickening crunch.

The rogue staggers back, his grip on me loosening. Leo is there in an instant, scooping me up into his arms and cradling me against his chest.

"I've got you, baby," he murmurs, his voice thick with emotion. "You're safe now, I promise."

I cling to him like a lifeline, my body shaking with sobs as the reality of what almost happened crashes over me. If the triplets hadn't shown up...

I can't even finish the thought.

Then I hear Luca say, "She's burning up," feeling a hand pressing against my forehead. "And her scent... fuck, I think she's going into heat."

Leo curses, his eyes flashing with fear and anger. "That fucking bastard. He must have given her something, triggered it early."

"We need to get her out of here, somewhere safe." Luca says.

Leo's arms tighten around me. "The cabin. It's remote, and we can put up wards to keep anyone from getting too close. Mindlink Joe. She might know how to deal with it."

"Do it. Logan and I will take care of this piece of shit and meet you there."

Leo doesn't hesitate, sweeping me up into his arms and carrying me out of the alcove. I bury my face in his chest, breathing in his scent like it's the only thing keeping me tethered to reality.

As we step out into the cool night air, I catch a glimpse of Arya's worried face in the crowd. She mouths "Are you okay?" and I nod weakly, trying to reassure her.

Actually, I feel everything is burning. I can barely see straight.

I need my mates.

Moon help me, but I think I'm falling for them.

And there's not a damn thing I can do to stop it.
