Chapter 1357 Gilbert and Marigold (32)
Gilbert began eating. Although he wasn't hungry, he felt incredibly satisfied.
As he ate, Marigold accompanied him by his side. Even though she was doing nothing, watching him was enjoyable enough. This was the man she liked. He was handsome even while eating. If only they could be together.
She couldn't help feeling hopeful as she thought of that. Judging by how things were going, it wasn't impossible.
Halfway through the meal, someone knocked on the door. Greg walked in. "Mr. Hawthorn, someone named Octavius Crawley is looking for you."
Octavius Crawley? Marigold didn't know this person. However, Gilbert's expression shifted. He probably knew who that was.
"Bring him to the meeting room," Gilbert said, continuing with his meal.
The assistant murmured in response and left the office.
Marigold could feel that Gilbert's emotions were shifting. Before, she could feel that he was in a pretty good mood. Now, he was in a terrible mood.
"Who is Octavius Crawley?" she couldn't help asking. She was worried for Gilbert.
Gilbert didn't think there was any point in keeping the truth from her. "My biological father."
To him, he was just a biological father.
Biological father? Marigold was stunned. Then, she understood what Gilbert meant. Octavius was Esther Bradshaw's husband.
Was he here because Esther hadn't been able to convince Gilbert? Why did they think that a different person would change Gilbert's mind?
Gilbert didn't know what she was thinking and was in no mood to guess. Because of Octavius' appearance, he no longer had the mood to eat. He finished the food and packed the lunchbox, saying, "I'll get the driver to bring you home."
"Alright." Marigold wanted to follow him, but she knew Gilbert was not on good terms with the Bradshaws. She would only be affecting him if she went. Hence, she stayed silent. She took the lunchbox from Gilbert's hands and asked in trepidation, "Should I...bring you dinner tomorrow?"
She wasn't sure if Gilbert would let her in tomorrow.
"Would you stop coming if I told you to?" Gilbert smirked. Why didn't he think that Marigold was this interesting before?
She was stunned for a moment. Then, she shook her head. "I'd still come even if you don't let me. The most you can do is deny my entry. If that happens, I'll put your food at the front desk, and you'll have to get someone to bring it to you."
She was about to leave, but then Gilbert pulled at her wrist. "Just come if you want to. As long as you don't think it's a bother."
"It's not." She was very willing to do so.
He sent her to the elevator. Once she disappeared out of sight, Gilbert's smile vanished. He changed instantly. He turned and walked toward the meeting room.
Octavius was feeling conflicted in the meeting room. It was his own decision to come to see Gilbert. Although he had no right of say in the Bradshaw family, he still loved his son. He was the one who cared for him the most when Gilbert was young.
He just didn't expect his son to go missing so suddenly and for him to completely change when they finally found him.
He was extremely nervous. Would Gilbert still remember him after so many years? Gilbert was already six or seven when he went missing. He still had to have a few memories. For whatever reason, he had not gone to find them, and he was now hostile toward them.
Octavius felt that something was wrong, but he couldn't be certain.
