Chapter 1256 We Will Always Be Family
She smiled happily. Alec and Jenny were actually paying attention to what was happening to them. When they saw her smiling so happily, they sensed something had changed. Then, they saw Melanie cradling Paul's arm. She said, "Everyone, let me introduce us. This is my boyfriend, Paul Wagner." She smiled brightly as if she had won a fabulous prize.
Everyone was stunned. Alec clapped first, to which Jenny seconded. "Congratulations."
It was worth celebrating.
If Paul could hit it off with Melanie, Stephanie would no longer be plagued with worries.
Jenny looked at Alec, sensing that he had relaxed tremendously. Maybe he knew it was alright that Paul most likely had agreed to be Melanie's boyfriend even though he had no feelings for her, as long as he was willing to take that first step. What did it matter if their feelings were genuine or not?
Stephanie looked at them and smiled at Melanie. She even gave her a "good luck" gesture. She and Melanie chatted sometimes. Although Melanie knew Paul liked Stephanie, she had not shown animosity towards her. Hence, Stephanie felt that she was a good person.
As for Paul, he paled in comparison.
She hoped that Paul would know how to cherish her and refrain from repeating the same mistake.
Leonard was made uncomfortable by the way she kept looking at them. He got her to look at him instead. "What are you looking at? Are you still thinking about your past lover?"
"Oh, what are you talking about? I was looking at Melanie." Stephanie glared at him. "Past lover" sounded so terrible.
Leonard didn't let her keep staring at them. "Don't look anymore. Everyone's happy to see them together. It's a good thing for us, too."
At least Paul wouldn't keep bothering Stephanie anymore.
Paul had not said anything. He let Melanie hold on to his arm at will and didn't retort when she introduced him to everyone as her boyfriend. There was no one sassier. Paul was no loser.
So what if Stephanie chose to be with Leonard? Paul was no worse off. He had women who liked him aplenty.
It was merry in the booth. Everyone drank a lot, and when they finally dispersed, the men were basically wasted while the women were still alert.
Jenny watched as Stephanie, Jade, and the others left. She turned, seeing that Zack and Janet had also gotten into their car. Only Gilbert was left standing.
Gilbert was the only bachelor around tonight.
"I got a cab for you, Gilbert," Jenny said. The others had girlfriends or wives who could drive, but Gilbert was alone. He could only get in a cab.
Gilbert didn't think much of it. He looked at the drunk Alec and asked, "Do you need a hand?"
"It's fine. I can sober him up." Jenny shook her head. It was late, and she didn't want to bother him.
Gilbert didn't press it. They all had their own lives to lead.
"Jenny." Gilbert was tipsy, and his eyes were glazed over. "I'm glad to see you happy."
"Thanks, Gilbert. No matter who I'm with, you will always be my brother. We will always be family," Jenny said.
Gilbert nodded. "Of course. If Alec ever makes you miserable, let me know, and I'll beat him to a pulp."
He was Jenny's strongest family member. He had to protect her.
Jenny smiled and nodded. Then, she asked, "Gilbert, both Zack and I have found our partners. What about you? You're not thinking of staying single forever, are you?" "Don't worry. I'm brilliant. I'll definitely find someone that I like." Gilbert smiled. He didn't want Jenny to worry.
The truth was, he had no intention of getting into a relationship, and he was not interested in any of the women around him. But he didn't have to let Jenny know that.
