Chapter the Wife 15

Chapter 15 Picking a Fight

Sally exchanged a few pleasantries with Selena before explaining why she had contacted her.

Hearing that Sally was looking for a job, Selena didn’t refuse. She smiled and said, “Perfect timing. The gallery we worked at before is hosting an event soon. They’re hiring temporary workers. Are you interested? The pay is daily.”

Sally immediately agreed, “Yes, I’ll go! I’m available anytime.”

Selena forwarded the job information from the gallery to Sally, telling her to report there on time the next day.

Sally thanked her.

The next morning, Sally left home on time.

Just as Selena had said, the gallery was indeed preparing

for an event.

Looking at the various artworks hanging on the walls, Sally couldn’t help but stop.

This was the place where she first met Anna.

Yes, this gallery belonged to Anna.

Sally loved Anna’s paintings. Back then, she stood in front of one, just as she was now, lost in thought.

Anna had suddenly appeared behind her, smiling, “Do you like this painting?”

Sally had been so flattered by Anna’s approach that she didn’t know how to respond. Anna had briefly chatted with her before leaving the exhibition hall.

Many years had passed since then. Anna might have forgotten her, but Sally remembered it vividly.

“Sally, Sally…” A voice snapped her back to reality.

The gallery manager frowned and said, “I asked you to serve tea to the guests. Why are you still standing here?”

Sally quickly regained her composure, “Sorry, I’ll do it right away!”

Today, Sally’s role at the gallery was that of a server.

Though the event hadn’t officially started, many people had already arrived. To properly serve these guests, the gallery had hired several temporary servers

Dressed in her uniform, Sally moved through the guests, serving drinks.

Before long, someone in the crowd locked their eyes on Sally.

Mary’s pupils widened as she watched Sally bustling about.

That women again, that woman again!

Mary was furious,

Sally seemed like an unshakeable shadow today!

Was she here on purpose?

Mary looked at Sally’s server uniform with disdain.

As Anna’s “daughter,” Mary was naturally the hostess of today’s event. After greeting a few guests, she

sent a message to Gale.

Mary: Can you help entertain the guests? I have something to do.

Gale glanced at the message on his phone, said nothing, and continued greeting the guests.

Mary quietly approached Sally.

Sally thought someone wanted champagne and was about to offer her tray. But when she saw the woman in front of her, her expression changed quickly.

It was Mary.

Surprise flashed in Sally’s eyes before her expression returned to calm.

It wasn’t unusual for Mary to be here, given that the gallery was Anna’s asset.

However, Sally wasn’t here to argue with Mary today.

Her only goal was to finish her shift and get her daily wages.

Sally lowered her eyes and said politely, “Miss, would you like some champagne?”

Mary calmly picked up a glass of champagne.

But she didn’t leave.

Mary looked Sally up and down, then sneered, “What are you doing here?”

Sally looked up and replied calmly, “Working.”

Mary felt a deep sense of sarcasm from Sally’s simple answer.

“Working? You really know how to choose your places. Earning money at my mom’s gallery.” Mary’s tone was mocking.

Sally turned to leave.

“Stop,” Mary commanded in a low voice. “I’m not done talking, and you dare walk away? How rude.”

“We once had the same mother,” Sally said, finding an outlet for her frustration, smiling suddenly, “If you say I’m rude, then what about our mother…”

Sally didn’t finish her sentence, but Mary understood her implication.

With a splash, Mary threw her champagne in Sally’s face!

Sally instinctively closed her eyes.

The liquid trickled down her face.

People nearby quickly noticed the commotion.

Mary had already thought of an explanation.

“How can you speak about my mother like that?” Mary looked heartbroken. “She’s still in a coma in the hospital. If you can’t wish her well, how can you say such cruel things?”

The surrounding people started whispering.

Sally knew this was Mary’s usual tactic.

First, do something bad, then play the victim to gain sympathy, and use that sympathy to morally crush and bully her.

Sally took a deep breath, twisted her ankle, and sat down on the floor.

Play the victim? Two can play at that game!

Mary was stunned as Sally, with red eyes, said, “Mrs. Anna has always been my admired painter… She’s in and I’ve been so worried about her… I took this job at the gallery just to do something for her…” People around them looked bewildered by Sally’s sudden act.

Sally cried, “But Miss Mary thinks I’m wishing ill for Mrs. Anna. I’m so sorry, Miss Mary. Hit me, hit me…

Sally grabbed Mary’s hand and tried to hit herself with it.

“You…” Mary was shocked but quickly withdrew her hand.

Though she wanted to slap Sally, she knew she couldn’t in public. As a wealthy heiress, she couldn’t be seen hitting a server.

If the media caught wind of it, her reputation would be ruined.

Fuming inside, Mary cursed Sally silently.

She had always thought Sally was stupid but didn’t realize how cunning she could be.

Seeing the crowd’s interest waning, Mary forced a smile, bent down, and helped Sally up, saying, “Dear, what are you talking about? You misunderstood me. I’ve never blamed you for anything..

The crowd’s attention gradually shifted elsewhere.

Mary sighed in relief and quickly let go of Sally’s hand.

This hateful woman! Just wait and see what she had in store for her!

Mary grew angrier and glanced around, her eyes meeting Mia’s.

Knowing each other well, Mia understood what Mary intended to do next. The two quickly left the exhibition hall.
