Chapter The Way 6
Chapter 6
The words hit like a physical blow. Thorne’s face fell, the smugness replaced by a stunned silence. For a moment, the room was enveloped in an uncomfortable quiet, the weight of Cassian‘ s death hanging heavily between us.
As the reality of the situation settled in, Thorne‘ s eyes met mine, a flicker of guilt–perhaps genuine, perhaps fleeting–crossing his features. But for me, it was too little, too late. Cassian” s death could never be undone, and neither could the hurt inflicted by those who should have cared for him most. I no longer waited for more of his reactions. I didn’t even care if he called after me with a weakened voice.
All I cared about was getting out of this shithole. I would never look back.
I clutched my suitcase tightly, determined to leave the Silverclaw Pack behind. I had no intention of turning back, even if Thorne suddenly felt remorse for his neglect. It was too late. His choice was clear–Morgana over Cassian, and his decision not to care was set in stone.
The territory of Silverclaw stretched out before me, its familiar landscape now tinged with a sense of finality.
Curious eyes fell onto me but I didn’t glance at them. Why would I care? Everyone here openly disrespected me and my son!
Just as I reached the boundary, a sudden gust of wind swept through, chilling me to the bone. I glanced around, my heart pounding, and there she was–Morgana, in her wolf form, her sleek gray fur glistening under the moonlight. Beside her stood a robed figure, a witch whose presence sent an icy shiver down my spine.
Confusion clouded my mind. What were they doing here? Morgana‘ s form shifted back to human as she approached, her expression one of cold determination. The witch remained silent, her fixed on me with a curious intensity.
gaze
“Aria,” Morgana’s voice was sharp, her tone demanding. “Hand over the Moonstone.”
I stared at her, my refusal immediate and resolute. “No. I will never give it to you.”
Her eyes narrowed, and a dark satisfaction seemed to flicker across her face. “You‘ re making a mistake. Do you even know why your son died?
My breath caught in my throat. I had been trying to keep the pain at bay, but Morgana’s words struck at the core of my anxiety. “What are you talking about?”
Morgana stepped closer, her voice lowering to a conspiratorial whisper. “You really trusted the pack healer, didn’t you? The one I paid.”
I felt a rush of fear and anger. “What did you do?”
Her lips curled into a cruel smile. “I paid the Omegas in the pack house to put a drop of wolfsbane in Cassian’s food. Each dose weakened him further, slowly poisoning him. I was paralyzed, my mind racing to make sense of her confession. Her eyes gleamed with a dark satisfaction. “Yes. I did.”
You… you
you killed my
son?”
My knees wobbled and I felt how my whole body weakened. “What… Why… What did Cassian do to you!” “Why? To get back to you. You’re always the fucking favorite, always getting what you want, even the Moonstone I always desired! You know I can just kill you instead, but only you knew where the Moonstone was hidden. I needed to make sure you d hand it over.
The rage that surged within me was overwhelming, a tidal wave of fury that clouded my vision and left me trembling. My hands clenched into fists, my knuckles white. “You monster! How could this? He was just a child!‘
you do
Morgana’s gaze remained icy, unrepentant. “I did what I had to do. Now, give me the Moonstone or more people will suffer.
I could barely contain the storm of emotions raging inside me. The very essence of my son’s death had been twisted into a dark, malicious plot, and Morgana‘ s cold, detached demeanor only fueled my anger further. “You‘ ll never get it from me. Not now, not ever.
The witch beside Morgana took a step forward, her présence adding an ominous weight to the scene. I could feel her power crackling in the air, but my resolve was unwavering.
Morgana‘ s expression darkened, a shadow of rage crossing her features. “You‘ re making a grave
mistake.
I clenched my jaw, “No, you’re the one who’s making a grave fucking mistake.”
