Chapter Epilogue
Elias
That bitch. Johnathan talked a big game, but he was nothing compared to her. Somehow we will need to figure out the secret to her powers and use them against her.
"She's wrong in every way!" Kalani screamed from the side of the small room we were sharing, "There is no room for all of us to be under one kingdom. What she is planning is monstrous."
"I agree, brother," I replied, rubbing my forehead, "But do you really think we could do anything in our position? We are wanted by the whole fucking lot of them."
"We need to contact Hamish," Kalani said as he paced the floor, "If he could get to Malachi's body, and Johnathan's, she wouldn't stand a chance."
"She disintegrated Johnathan," I growled, "How the fuck do you think we could get his body? And secondly, Malachi's body is long decomposed. It would be useless."
"But..." Kalani said, running over to me in a frantic, "Hamish has been known to float spirits."
"It's never been proven," I groaned, annoyed with Kalani's incessant begging, "It's only hearsay. And thirdly, if we left this god-for-saken shithole there would be a bullet in our brain the instant our faces are shown."
"You're always so negative," Kalani said, sitting down with a huff, "We need to at least try something. I'm not dying anytime soon."
"I don't even know how to get in contact with Hamish," I replied honestly, "And who knows if we could even trust him? He's always been used by her family for magic. He is loyal to her."
"We don't know that for certain," he said, "The only thing that we know is he works in secret; what has been said about him is only word of mouth, not indisputable facts."
"We need a witch," I sighed, "One that will not speak a word of our existence to anyone. Then we could find Hamish."
"I have the perfect witch," Kalani chuckled, "And you know exactly who I am talking about."
"Who...?" I asked, when the realization hit.
Summer.
"Summer," I whispered, "Shit. Kalani, maybe you aren't as much of an imbecile as I thought."
"I am a king, dumbass," Kalani mumbled, "We strike out in the morning. Make sure to get some rest, we will need it. Hiding is of the upmost importance."
"No shit," I chuckled, excited that we might finally have a lead.
The last few weeks spent in this worn-down cottage were getting the best of us. We had fought day in and day out of ways to get back at her, but no realization had been made until now.
I unfolded my cot and covered myself with the burlap sack I used as a blanket. The crickets outside grew quiet as the silence of the deep forest we were nested in crept around us.
There was no light in the cottage, so we had to solely rely on our vamp sight to guide us if anyone were to intrude. We kept a keen ear on the outside, listening constantly for footsteps or anything else that might indicate life.
Find Summer, find Hamish, kill Melody.
Seemed like a simple plan to me, but I knew we had a long road ahead of us.
