Their Mate, My Saviors Chapter 66
-POV Charlie-
"These lovely friends of mine want me to entertain Malerie." I grumbled bluntly before tearing at my sandwich again. These sandwiches were delicious but I couldn't even enjoy them after the conversation the guys and I just had. "She is blowing up your phone for a reason, Charlie. We just want to make sure we capitalize on this opportunity. You said you were fine with it earlier." Vil countered.
"I'm fine with responding to a text message or two. Letting the girl whine about trivial nonsense over the phone, but I will not drive all the way to Boston and look her in the eye for nobody!" I shouted, including my alphas. Well, as long as they don't order me to. For now, it seems like they are just asking, but I will be rightfully screwed if they use their alpha command.
Vil growled and Ayame immediately rested her hand on his while her face paled. "W-where in Boston?" She asked and that piqued my attention. She was terrified.
"Upper east. Why?" I answered slowly.
Her heart rate quickened and we all heard the shift. "Ayame, you need to calm down so you don't force an accidental shift." Vil said, kissing his mark on the back of her neck.
She shivered at the touch, but her fear hadn't diminished. "Ayame, talk to us." Edon said, turning her head gently to look him in the eye."
She opened her mouth and closed it, then repeated the same motion. "That's where Richard lives." She whispered.
"The hell?!" I growled. I completely forgot! That sniveling ass wipe lives there. We have all been looking at them separately. How could we have missed that? Either way, it won't be overlooked again.
"So, they are working together?!" Alpha Father bellowed, saying what we were all thinking.
"Head Warrior, Gamma, it looks like Donna has just invited Richard into their home here." One of our spies called through the link as if they knew we were having this conversation. Vince and I shared a knowing look.
"Okay." I said tersely to the group.
Edon kissed Ayame's cheek while Vil rubbed her arm and Conri petted her leg. The four of them are so seamless, I almost envy the trust they have built together. "Okay to what?" Vince asked.
I shot my eyes back towards the Gamma. "You heard as well as I did. They have made contact with Richard. We cannot let this continue. I will go see your sister, but I'm telling you now I'm not happy with this plan and it sucks, but I will not let another man harm our Luna." I sighed at the sacrifice I was willing to make while everyone else in the room was sighing in relief.
"You won't regret this, Charlie. I know this is the right way to bring him down. They want to get to Ayame through you, so remember that." Conri warned, but he was still taking the democratic approach. I could still back out at any time, but I won't. Ayame has become like a little sister to me. I cannot see her hurt. Not again.
"They are coming after me." Ayame whimpered.
"They are. We have been keeping tabs on them and we finally have enough to act, but we have to catch him in the act. That won't be easy if we are staying up here. Sorry angel that we kept this from you."
She shook her head and snuggled into Vil's chest, finally calming down. "No, thank you for keeping this from me. There wasn't anything I could do to help and honestly. I don't want to stress about something I cannot control anymore." She added.
Vil grinned and handed her half of his sandwich. "Good, that's what we want to hear, angel. We will always tell you whatever you want to hear whenever you ask, but thank you for trusting us this time around."
She bit into the sandwich and nodded. "So, when do I leave?" I asked as my phone started to vibrate again.
"Whenever you want, but make it believable. You haven't responded to her in almost a week. Don't be all gung-ho all of a sudden." Edon suggested.
"Sounds like a plan, now can we please talk about the more interesting thing in the room." I shifted my eyes to the Luna and she stopped eating. "How's your wolf spirit, Ayame?" I nudged, making the whole room turn their attention to her and away from me.
She glared at me, knowing what I had done, but she didn't push. There goes those little sister vibes, but I'm sure she could tell I needed a minute to compartmentalize what I'm about to do. "There's no need for a minute. Go get our mate. We may still have a chance." My wolf grumbled.
"I'm not taking her back, no matter how much you whine about it." I spat back.
"Sure. You keep telling yourself that." He added.
"I will because it is the truth. She never wanted us and I don't want her anymore. She was exhausting when we were young and I thought she would change if we were mated, but she hasn't. She got worse. Even if she really wanted a second chance, I wouldn't give it to her." "Uhuh." He mumbled. Whatever. It's not him I have to convince anyway. At the end of it all, it's myself. I'm the one with the final say on if we accept her or not. My wolf is just along for the ride.
Later that evening, I looked down at my phone and finally got the courage to call her. "Well, look who's no longer busy." I gripped ahold of the cheap hardware, doing my best not to get angry and snap it in two while her disrespectful tone rang through the speaker. "Hello to you too, Malerie." I said through gritted teeth.
"Um...right, so I want you to take me out." She said, and I could tell she wasn't the only one in the room. I'm sure her mother was watching this interaction very closely. Either her mother or Adolpha. Maybe even both.
"Really?" I said with a tinge of irritation in my tone.
"Yes...I have...I mean, I want to talk to you about something kind of important and saying it over the phone just doesn't seem right."
I rubbed my face and pulled the phone away from my ear, staring at the name and face I wished wanted me back all because of a bond I cannot control. I looked up at the ceiling and back down at the phone. Control. I need to stay in control. Maybe if I do, the moon goddess will give me another chance at love. A real chance at love.
Revive my hope in the mate bond.
For now, all I have are the horrible memories Malerie gave me and now I have to walk into it like I'm totally fine, but my alphas are right. I have to put my Luna...my sister first. She is my leader and a woman I greatly respect. After everything she has gone through before, this is the least I can do.
"Alright. Fine. Where do I pick you up?" I asked.
"My house."
"House?" I asked, feigning ignorance.
"Yes, Charlie. My father isn't the only one with money and influence. I will send you the address. I expect to see you here on Saturday at 10 a.m. sharp. Do not be late." She said before hanging up the phone on me.
Deep breaths Charlie. On the bright side, when this is all set and done, I'll be the one to escort her to her execution.
-POV Ayame-
"Come on, little one. You can do this." Conri said, encouragingly. Once we headed into our room for the night, Conri, Vil, and Edon have been trying to help me with the mind link.
How could I possibly focus, knowing we were literally pushing Charlie into the lions' den? I know this is our best shot and everyone is fighting for me, but I don't want to constantly watch people getting hurt over it. "She's still thinking about Charlie." Vil said, clicking his teeth and rolling his eyes.
"Well, sorry I care that we are going to be doing this to him. It still rubs me the wrong way."
"Yes, but that is not the conversation we are going to be having tonight. He said he would do it. We all saw your face when you realized how close those three were to Richard. We cannot just let this happen like we did with Prince Chaz. I will not let that happen again, now focus!" Vil growled and I shook at the authority in his tone. Did they always have that much dominance radiating off of them?
"No, this is new because you have a wolf now. Their dominance over the packs will push you to submit more than you naturally do as a submissive. Now, it's not always voluntary, but you can push past it if you try hard enough as the Luna. Sorry Ayame." My wolf muttered and I groaned.
Turning away from them, I folded my arms in front of my chest, no longer wanting to cooperate. "It's not working. Don't I have to be a part of your pack to mind link with you?" I asked.
Edon rested his hands on my arms and slowly unraveled them before intertwining our fingers together. "You are our mate, princess. You just need to focus. You don't have to be 'a part of the pack' to talk to your mate or, in this case, mates. Also, we have been pushing to finish your ceremony so you can become a part of the pack. That will help if something goes wrong too. We all feel the pull that you have accepted your position, but that isn't official until you pledge your loyalty. Now, focus on our spirits, Ayame. You can do this."
I tightened my grip on his and stared up at him. "Fine." I added, for good measure. I was annoyed and tired. "Maybe I shouldn't have told them that I had found my wolf so soon."
"Well, that's not a very nice thing to say, princess."
I dropped my hands from Edon's and jumped back about ten feet on instinct, not expecting another voice to be in my head. It sounded like Edon's but it was deeper, with a more...grizzly tone to it. He raised a brow, but a grin was still present. I glanced at Conri and Vil, who were now very interested in Edon and I's altercation. I turned back to Edon and calmed my breathing, remembering the voice I had just heard. "E-Edon?" I asked, trying the mind link intentionally this time.
"Yes, princess?" He ushered again and slowly tilted his head in acknowledgment.
I smiled brightly and ran up to him, jumping in his arms. "Finally!! I...I can hear you. Well, I think it's you but I can still hear you! It was so cool! Now I can talk to you when I'm far away or when you guys have to go on your stupid business trips."
He slipped his arms around me and held on tightly while I wrapped my legs around his waist. "I'm really glad to hear your wolf, princess, but you still have to try it with Vil and Conri." Edon said slowly, letting me down on my feet. I sighed and walked up to Vil first. Vil's eyes widened a bit when he stared up at me. "Yes?" He asked.
"You next." He scratched his brow and looked up at me through his fingers.
"Alright, I guess."
"I think you shocked him." Edon said through the link, holding back a laugh, and I giggled lightly. I think I did too.
"I didn't mean to. I want him to meet my wolf the most. He's the reason why she's here. I...I want to...she wants to thank his spirit personally." I pushed myself in between Vil's legs and he shifted closer to the edge of the couch, letting his arms rest on his elbows. "Focus, angel." He said, looking me right in the eye.
"Right, I'm focused." My wolf pressed expectantly. "I really want to meet him, Ayame." She whimpered.
"I know. I can do this."
"You already did, angel." Just like Edon, Vil's spirit voice was different. It was full of mischief and a growling undertone. Vil's eyes flashed orange and back. "Very nice to meet you, little wolf."
"Eeekkk!! Hi!" My wolf shouted, making Vil and I wince. "Oh...sorry." She mumbled once she got control of herself.
"I think we both wanted to say thank you for changing us and thank you for keeping control for so long. We...we knew it was hard, but we know I made the right choice." I said, finally thanking the spirit of the hour.
Vil immediately pulled me into his chest and slammed his lips on mine. "Mine." His wolf rumbled through my mind and, by the way my core turned to liquid, I knew this was going to be another wondrous night.
