“Trent already ordered some coffee.
He’s waiting for us there.

They had, in fact, already planned this out in advance.
Hannah had no choice but to follow him to the cafe.
They were being awfully familiar with her, and it made her uncomfortable.
Hannah made a point of sitting on the chair across the table from them.
“Mr.
Compton, are you here for business?”
“No,” Keith answered almost immediately.
“We’re here for you.
”
Under the table, Trent nudged him in the leg.
“I mean…” Keith awkwardly cleared his throat and corrected himself.
“You… are right.
I am here for business, yes.
That’s it.
”
Hannah took a sip of her coffee.
She had nothing to say to that.
“Miss Moore.
” This time, it was Trent who spoke.
“Can you tell us about your mother’s past?”
There was a disgusted frown lining Hannah’s forehead.
“I’m sorry, but this is my private life.
So I owe you two no duty to feed your curiosity,” she said.
Then she flung them a cold, searching look, her eyebrows raised in suspicion.
“And aren’t we just business partners? Don’t you think asking me about my mother is rather intrusive of my personal life?”
Glancing embarrassedly at the floor, Keith nudged Trent and muttered, “Didn’t I tell you we shouldn’t ask her about this?”
Trent scratched his head and stared up at Hannah.
“I’m so sorry,” he said in a voice heavy with remorse.
“We’ve lived abroad for a very long time, and we’re used to asking people about things like this.
”
Hannah rolled her eyes.
“I guess there’s nothing else to talk about, so I’ll just leave now.
