Chapter 44 (Part One)
Loin went to the bank to withdraw money and accompanied Nicole to the hospital to visit Layton. At last, Nicole had paid the
medical fees. Nicole was both relieved but worried, 'But I paid for the fee for today. What about the fee for tomorrow? I have to
be worried tomorrow again.'
The second morning, Nicole had to go back to work. 'Since I couldn't afford to lose this job and wrote a report to beg for the
forgiveness of the company, I should cherish it, instead of making my leaders disappeared.
But if I go to work, what about Layton?' Unexpectedly, when Nicole was worried and lost in thought, Loin came over early and
bought breakfast for Nicole and Layton. Loin said, "I guessed that you might need to find someone to take care of Layton. It
happens that I have nothing to do at home. I am free at home. Let me take care of Layton for you. You can go back to work."
Nicole was very grateful to Loin. Nicole held her hand and thanked her again and again before going to work.
When Loin was about to go out, Loin called her again, "Nicole, wait a minute. I have something to tell you."
When Nicole turned around, Loin took Nicole's hand and went out, avoiding the two policemen. They went to a quiet place and
Loin said, "Nicole, do you remember my nephew that I introduced to you a few months ago? The one you went on a blind date in
the XX Hotel."
Nicole thought for a while and nodded.
"What is your impression of him?" Loin said with hope in her eyes.
The impression of him... To be honest, Nicole had already forgotten him. She didn't even remember his name or appearance. All
she could remember was that the man was short, thin, black and with a pair of glasses. He was a good talker. He kept talking
during the meal, then she didn't remember anything else.
Seeing Nicole's hesitation, Loin changed her topic and asked tentatively, "Do you remember his name?"
Nicole neither nodded nor shook her head, because she felt sorry for her benefactor.
Loin sighed, "Maybe you have forgotten him. It's all my fault. I didn't ask about your feelings when I came back. But at that time, I
felt that you two didn't like each other at that time, and I was too embarrassed to ask you how you felt. A few months later, my
nephew suddenly came to his senses and asked me about your situation."
With a smile on her face, Loin said, "As far as I'm concerned, my nephew cares about you very much and has been inquiring
about your situation. If you are willing to get in touch with him, maybe there will be a chance."
Nicole kept silent and lowered her head, afraid that Loin would see the hesitation and resistance in her eyes.
Loin continued, "You are not in a good situation now. It would be much better if someone could help you. Although my nephew
was born in a small town, he is capable. He has done a lot in the city. The last year, he bought a car and a house. If he likes you,
you are willing to be with him. He can help you on the matter of Layton."
After a pause, Loin continued again, "I don't dare to say that he can get through to the police and let the police let go of Layton,
but the medical fees of Layton and your future life problems you don't need to worry about."
Nicole finally raised her head. She pursed her lips, trying to squeeze out a smile, but she still couldn't. She said politely, "Loin,
thank you for your kindness. But about the blind date, I might have to think about it carefully, because I don't want to get others
into trouble because of me. If I accept him because of Layton, it's not responsible for myself and him. I don't want to get others
into trouble."
Loin looked at her for a while, and gradually disappointed. She sighed and said, "Well, then you should think about it carefully. I
really think that you need someone to help you. It's too hard for you to take care of Layton alone. Now that such a thing has
happened to Layton, how can you hold on? Think it over. If you make up your mind, tell me!"
Nicole nodded and said goodbye to Loin before she went to work. However, after taking a few steps, Nicole turned around and
thanked Loin again and again before leaving with guilt.
On the subway, Nicole kept thinking about what Loin had said this morning.
Nicole grew up with self-esteem and self-respect. Since her mother died, she took care of her brother alone. She was used to
the hostility of others, and knew self-respect and self-love. So just now, Loin asked her to consider accepting the last blind date
because of Layton, and she refused subconsciously.
In ancient times, only a woman who sold her virginity would surrender to a man because of a condition. Nicole was not a lowly
woman. She didn't want to end up like this. She didn't want to trade her marriage for temporary benefits.
And with her family's situation, if young man knew it well, he might not accept it. It was no need for Nicole to ask for humiliation.
However, Nicole was almost running out of money. When her mother died in the early years, Nicole could still turn to her
grandmother's family, but the business of the grandmother's family was competing in the same industry, and it was getting worse.
The company was eventually sold out. Her uncle had occupied all the family property, and even the unmarried aunt was not
allowed to enter the house. Her uncle was afraid that she was splitting the property with him, not to mention Nicole and Layton.
After hating his uncle's character, Nicole decided to take her brother out and live on their own. After her grandparents died, she
seldom went back to her uncle's house and seldom contacted them.
The only person Nicole could keep in touch with was her aunt. But her aunt was abroad and couldn't help much!
