Chapter 148
Chapter 148
As Maxwell spoke, his breath brushed against Noelle's cheek.
That sensation suddenly reminded her of the times she had faced William, causing the same nauseating feeling to surge up within her in an instant.
Clenching her teeth, she fixed her eyes on Maxwell in front of her. "Maxwell, if you so much as lay a finger on me, I'll call the police immediately."
"Go ahead. Call them," Maxwell replied with a chuckle, then added, "Do you really think that with your current reputation, anyone will believe a word you say? Believe me when I say that everyone will just assume it was you who seduced me."
Maxwell's face was lit with a subtle smile. It was the same smile Noelle was so familiar with. But now, that familiar face felt more like the devil's. She suddenly found herself at a loss for words. She parted her lips to speak, but in the end, no words came out.
Maxwell's smile deepened further when he saw her like that. He tightened his grip on her shoulder while his other hand slid around her waist.
"Let's go, Elle," he said suddenly before leaning down to kiss Noelle on the lips. "Let's leave this city tonight and find a place where no one knows us to start afresh. What do you say to that?"
Noelle didn't respond, but her hand quietly reached for the drawer behind her. Maxwell's kiss was just about to land when the door suddenly crashed open with a loud bang, startling both of them.
Hendrix stood in the doorway, frowning as he took in the scene. From his vantage point, he saw Maxwell's hand wrapped around Noelle's waist, their bodies dangerously close. Noelle had one hand pressed against Maxwell's shoulder, but there was no sign of resistance on her face.
In fact, it looked almost as though Hendrix had accidentally intruded when the couple was about to kiss. But then, his gaze dropped to Noelle's hand, which was hidden behind her back-she was holding a pair of scissors! Hendrix's gaze darkened instantly. Without a word, he stepped forward and kicked Maxwell to the ground.
Maxwell, still in shock from Hendrix's sudden appearance, was completely unprepared for the blow. He didn't react until he was already crashing to the floor. He slammed his back into the nearby bookshelf, which sent a sharp, searing pain through him.
But Hendrix seemed unsatisfied. He moved forward swiftly to deliver another kick to Maxwell's chest. His face remained unreadable, yet each strike grew fiercer than the last.
The attack was so intense that even Noelle, standing nearby felt shocked. Unable to help herself, she took a few steps forward and grabbed Hendrix's arm.
"Hendrix... Stop..." Her own voice trembled as she spoke. In the chaos, she hadn't even realized she was still holding the scissors.
But Hendrix didn't seem to hear her. Noelle forced herself to calm down before stepping closer to grip his hand tightly. "Hendrix, please stop!"
Hendrix finally seemed to register her words this time. But he simply threw her a glance before yanking off his tie. He then crouched down and used it to tie Maxwell's hands together.
By that point, Maxwell had almost no strength left, enabling Hendrix to easily tie him up. After that was done, Hendrix turned to Noelle. "Call the police."
