Chapter 21 - Love Blossom
Sugi strolled the palace grounds by moonlight enjoying the elegant gardens full of scabiosa and heliotrope in purples and whites. From where he stood the waterfalls glistened in the moonlight making it his favorite spot. It truly looked straight out of a fairy tale, more beautiful than even the most imaginative dreamer could concoct. Sugi looked around his peaceful surroundings illuminated by the fairies and perfumed by the delicate white flowers. He reached out to smell an adjacent jasmine bloom as Jimon watched his every move. For Jimon, the most beautiful sight of all is his beautiful violet-haired prince.
“You of all people should not walk alone,” someone spoke in a soft voice.
Sugi smiled and turned, “It’s you I came to see. How fortuitous to find you in such a secluded spot.” With hooded eyes, Sugi wrapped his arms around Jimon, encircling his small waist possessively with his warm embrace.
Jimon pulls away gently turning to face his love. The fire in his eyes had calmed down in the peaceful setting but his heart was anything but appeased. “I grew bored waiting for you. All your attention was on the expectant mother.”
“Are you not happy for me?” He teased, eliciting a little pout from his handsome companion.
“I am, but I was happier when you said you might love me.” Jimon looks up into his violet eyes. “What part do I play in this? The jilted, jealous, almost lover?”
“Jimon, that’s why I wanted to talk to you. I don’t want to lose the connection we have. I feel butterflies in my stomach when I’m near you. You do things to me.” Sugi leaned in closer to capture his lips and Jimon took the sweet elixir that was his kiss. They paused their kissing to look at each other. “I don’t want to lose you.”
“Then make me a priority. Make me feel loved.”
“I’d be happy to...”
“But? I feel that’s what’s coming next. Isn’t it?”
Sugi gazed at him. He decides it’s best to tell him right out what he is thinking.
“Yes, there is something you know I have to do, but it will only come between us if we let it.”
“You are letting her into your life, aren’t you?”
“Yes, Jimon, I have to marry her before the child is born.”
“What?”
“I am a prince and the only child of my parents. This baby will be my heir. It’s not like you and I can have a child.”
“So that’s it then. You will marry her. How can you trust someone that has tried to kill you?”
“She won’t. If she wanted to kill me she would have. I think she loves me.”
“Oh great. No problem then,” Jimon said sarcastically. “Are you nieve enough to think the villagers will accept her as their queen? They despise her, both the men and the elves.”
“It’s not up to them. I know they will come around once they see our baby.” Sugi paused seeing the hopelessness on Jimon’s face. “I understand you are angry, but try to see this as a blessing. You will live with me at the palace and she will have a separate room. It will be a marriage of convenience. She and I were friends once and we will be again. The child will bring us together.”
“I see.”
“She will be my wife in name only though, it’s you I love. Do you not think this will be the right decision?”
“I can accept it if you can tell me with surety that you love me.”
Sugi smiled at Jimon’s little pout. He was so adorable and emotional. It was impossible not to love him.
“I feel so lucky to have found you. Look at all the good things that have happened since you came into my life.”
