Chapter Chapter Three
Chris was the last of the group to reach the clearing where they had all seen the object disappear a few minutes ago. When he arrived, Chris could not believe what he was looking at. A house-sized vehicle, much larger than the object they had seen earlier and with a light green glow encircling it, floated a few dozen feet above the ground. The green light seemed to be emitting some powerful pulsating force. They could feel its strength even from a distance as it pushed slightly against them, like a magnet pushing against its polar equivalent. The vehicle was slowly descending above the clearing. It had a stretched, circular shape, like a stretched egg with several layers of concentric circles. It was dark-colored, albeit with the green glow around it, Chris could not tell if it was black or some very dark shade of green.
As if the vehicle itself wasn’t enough to astonish Chris and the other observers, as the powerful green glow hit the ground it seemed to scorch everything below it. The ferns, small brushes and even small boulders were turned into a flat surface of ash. At the same time, three large metallic looking legs began to extend from the bottom of the vehicle, each with three sturdy fingerlike prongs at the ends for support. The five men continued to gawk as the vehicle settled on the surface, the three legs holding it about ten feet off the ground.
The five men looked at each other, unsure what to do. However, they didn’t have to wait long, as a narrow, vertical slit opened within the greenish glow and a beach-ball sized object exited from a brief opening in the vehicle and floated out of its protective casing. The object looked like the one they had previously observed, with dangling appendages and all.
As all of this developed before his eyes, a thought crossed Chris’s mind. He had to document this! He had to make sure others knew about this—and since no one would believe them, he needed some kind of proof. He took out his smartphone and snapped a photo of the object. That’s when things started to go badly.
The smartphone flashed as it took the picture. The object instantly reacted, firing some kind of bright, white laser at the smartphone, causing a small explosion in Chris’s hands. Chris yelled. The object started toward the group, and Robbie yelled out to everyone to scatter. The object altered course, following Robbie’s voice, and fired a laser at Robbie, knocking him down. Marcelo was quick to react, taking out his firearm and shooting at the object. The bullets, however, disappeared in a flash. The object fired another laser. This knocked Marcelo to the floor as well, his gun dropping to the side.
The others stopped. Chris was closest to the edge of the clearing, while Kenny and Jack were a few feet away from Robbie. They all remained silent as the object moved towards Robbie. It extended one of its hanging appendages and clamped onto Robbie’s shirt collar. It then began to drag a motionless Robbie toward Marcelo. As if sensing what was about to happen, Kenny moved toward Jack, to hold him back. Sure enough, Jack was about to go try to release Robbie from the clutches of the object. Kenny held on to Jack while covering his mouth. Jack struggled, but eventually relented as he watched the object clamp onto Marcelo as well.
As the object began dragging Marcelo and Robbie, Chris realized it was headed for the vehicle and he was in its path! Chris stood perfectly still and controlled his breathing as the object passed by. Behind it, Chris could barely see Robbie and Marcelo with their heads slightly above the ground as they were dragged. They were obviously unconscious, but in the silence, he could barely make out their breathing.…They were still alive!
As the object finally approached the vehicle, the greenish glow around it opened again, allowing the object—and its cargo—to pass through. The glow then closed behind the object, which subsequently dragged Robbie and Marcelo into the large vehicle.
Chris walked over to Kenny and Jack not exactly knowing what to say or how to react. Kenny motioned for them to return to camp. He had to drag Jack for the first few yards as he didn’t want to leave, but there was no choice. As they headed for the camp, Jack continued to look back at the mysterious vehicle as it sat still on the ashen ground in the middle of the Amazon after having abducted his brother and Marcelo.
