Chapter 242
Chapter 242
Ruth was so furious that she couldn’t even stomach her meal. Staring at the food in front of her, she snapped, “Take it away. I’m not eating!
Laura furrowed with concern, pleaded. “Mrs. Larson, don’t be bothered by Thomas‘ family and harm your health. It’s not worth it
“How am I supposed to have the appetite to eat?” Ruth thumped her chest in frustration. I’ve already made concessions and allowed them to return. I did it with reluctance. But they didn’t bring Madeline over. What good are they to me? I don’t want to support those annoying people or let them leech off my hospitality”
Laura held the plate, her face etched with worry. “Are those behind Madeline really that powerful?”
“Yes, absolutely” Ruth’s expression darkened. Harley has looked into it. In addition to Caleb’s prosection, Madeline is surrounded by Nolan, the miracle healer. And people often see her hang out with Gavin at school. Gavin is said to be a significant figure in the criminal underworld. Rumors of foreign assassins guarding her have also surfaced. Eugene is one of the more intriguing ones. Though he appears to be a rich playboy, the top brass in the city don’t dare to provoke him because he holds too many prople’s secrets.”
Ruth had done everything she could to look into it. She could get this information because those who protected Madeline didn’t stay low–key or hide from being discovered.
“What kind of person is Madeline? Why would so many big shots get near her?” Ruth shook her head. “I can’t figure it out. Harley said we must win her over.” Ruth would take Conner’s advice, even though she didn’t listen to anyone else.
Laura was taken aback by this information. “If she’s that impressive, having her at home could mean that we gain several powerful allies”
Ruth upped her fingers on the table a few times, deep in thought. “Indeed.”
They had used marriage as a means of establishing relationships, and now they could potentially have a powerful ally. Yet, their plans had gone awry due to Thomas‘ troublesome wife.
“Tm so furious,” Ruch mattered, her temples pulsating as she closed her eyes. “I might just send them back where they came from.”
Laura let out a chuckle, thinking to herself that as Ruth aged, her approach to handling matters had become more capricious, much like a child’s. No wonder people said as people aged, they became more like children. “Mr. Larson, they’re already here. Will Madeline become resentiful if we send them away?”
Ruth knew that too. “Here’s what we’ll do. Let Henry’s wife assign them more difficult assignments. It’s best if they bring Madeline to me willingly otherwise, they won’t find peace either her voice trailed off with an implied threat.
Laura understood the plan. “Understood, Mrs. Larson. She suggested, “Why not have some food and get some rest After they’ve encountered some obstacles, they’ll have to face reality and work frantically to convince Madeline to come over.”
Ruch nodded, a low, cold laugh escaping her lips. “Yes, the sooner the better. Don’t test my patience”
Laura echoed Ruth’s sentiments
The surrounding people couldn’t help but feel sorry for Thomas family. As part of the Larson family, they had no share in the family fortune and had been cast out for years. Now, summoned at a moment’s notice, Ruth seemed ready to kick them out again. It was quite a harsh fate.
As spring progressed, the days grew longer, and summer was just around the corner.
After a year of study, Madeline was about to wrap up her freshman year. As soon as her final exams were over, she headed straight into the film crew, starting to shoot the show The Good Old Days. This was a drama where the female lead had two okler sisters, and she’s the third, named. Violet, along with a younger brother. Violet’s parents were eager to have a son but their first three children were all daughters. Her eldest sister got married at a young age to a hardworking man, only to be beaten while pregnant. The second child was engaged to a cheating man. At just fifteen, Violet spent her days running around the countryside with her brother on her back. Her family made sure the boy got to cat well and had the chance to study and make something of himself. Meanwhile, Violet could only tend to cattle, mow the lawn, and do farm work every day, Violet was the prettiest girl in the village, and her parents planned to marry her off to a wealthier family while she was still young to earn a substantial dowry for her brother’s high school education, Violet didn’t want to end up like her sisters, working hard, having kids, and getting beaten. She lay on the haystack, watching who young men from the city, appreciating their youthful vitality and envying their literacy and capacity to read, discuss. and debate the news. Therefore, she would take her brother to school and covertly go to study after finishing her daily chore of cutting grass for the cows early. She had mistered all the characters the teacher had taught her by the time she was fifteen. Until the time came to pick her up like cattle and exchange her for cash. And so the story started.
After the start of filming. Yohannes made a special visit to the set. He saw Madeline in the wilderness, dressed in tattered clothes full of patches. with her jet–black hair tied back in a vibrant ponytail; her face was a bit yellowish and small, but she looked neat and clean. She was just thin
Yohannes felt distressed for her. “Maddie, how come you’ve lost so much weight?”
Upon noticing the real patron of Maddie had arrived, Luka hurried over and said. “Mr. Yandell, you’re here
“What’s going on with Maddie? She… Yohannes frowned, hesitating to continue

Chapter 212
“Maddie stated that in comparison to other dramas filming simultaneously, this play’s crew is the best, equipped with all kinds of resources. She thinks that the show’s theme might help him get rewarded. She finds this drama to be very important. She has only eaten two sandwiches a day for the past two months to fit the role she plays. And she even got her skin tanned before shooting,” Luisa explained, her hands covering her face as she told Yohannes how hard–working Madeline was.
Rockley couldn’t help but grumble, “No way! It’s a debutante’s first leading lady part, and she wants an award? That’s daydreaming. You should tell Ms. Larson that making a splash is not practical,”
Yohannes gave his assistant Rockley a cold glance, “Shut up Whatever Maddie wants to
wants to achieve, she can do it. She has the talent,”
“Yohannes, you’re not thinking of bribing the judges, are you?” Rockley was confused. “Even if she gets such an award, it’s not really something to be proud of
Yohannes couldn’t hold back anymore. “Your year–end bonus is gone.”
Rockley was taken aback.
Director Coleman Brock was behind the monitor and watched Madeline lying on the haystack while she was looking at those young guys with admiration and longing. Her face was filled with pure yearning, completely devoid of sadness or melancholy, or worldly utilitarianisrn. She was so
Innocent
Coleman was initially dubious about Madeline, but he was profoundly touched by her comprehension of the role, her professional performance, and the extent of her efforts. After calling “cut,” he noticed Yohannes and said, “Oh, you’re here.”
“Mr. Brock, how is it going! Is everything alright?” Yohannes approached, feeling a bit embarrassed. After all, he had utilized his financial clout to secure this director, so Coleman likely harbored some resentment.
“Very good,” Coleman nodded heartily. “She’s like a seasoned actor with more than a decade of acting experience. She doesn’t put on airs. She’s truly a very promising talent. She hasn’t signed a contract with any company, right?”
Yohannes immediately became alarmed. “You’re not thinking of signing her, are you? Your company isn’t the right fit for her.”
“Your company is just for star–making, you should think about hiring talented artists if you want long–term development, Coleman laughed, his eyes full of appreciation. “You recommended her, but her acting abilities are very different from yours.” He didn’t want to say something hurtful. Yohannes‘ acting was nowhere near as good as Madeline’s. It was hard to believe they were both artists.
Coleman was confident. “Her future is unimaginable.”
