Chapter 73
Chapter 73
“That’s right. Gordon understands us very well,” Mom said, smiling.
All Gordon had done was deliver some gifts and say a few nice things, but both Mom and Dad had already been completely won over. They were now both taking his side.
I was at a loss for words, and I couldn’t help rolling my eyes.
I knew that Gordon and I weren’t close, but we weren’t divorced yet. I didn’t want my parents to worry about our marriage prematurely.
I had no choice but to suppress my temper. Still, I couldn’t resist stomping on Gordon’s foot under the table.
Gordon wa
was sitting upright, but when I stamped hard on his foot, I saw the corner of his mouth twitch violently. However, he did not kick up a fuss, which was uncharacteristic of him.
He maintained his smile, and neither of my parents noticed anything.
Mom and Dad ate very heartily at dinner that night–especially Dad, who drank copious amounts of red wine.
Gordon drank with him, and after dinner, he sat on the sofa to chat with my father for a while.
While they were doing so, I headed upstairs to pack lightly before coming down again.
Mom pulled me aside and said thoughtfully, “Sweetie, when two people live together, you have to know when to fight and when to give in. Things between a husband and a wife don’t have to be so clear–cut, and
sometimes, you should turn a blind eye so that you can have a happy life. Do you understand?”
“Mom, I know what I’m doing. Don’t worry.”
I nodded.
“Alright. You’ll learn to grow up over time.”
Mom patted me on the shoulder.
Gordon said goodbye to Dad, got up, and walked toward me.
He probably wanted the two of us to appear as a loving couple in front of my parents today. So, he came over and grabbed my hand tightly once more, then led me out of the front door.
Luke was still waiting outside, and my parents had prepared gifts in return, which had already been
stuffed into the trunk of the car/
Gordon had come in a Rolls Royce Cullinan. The car had been sitting in the garage for a while now. I figured he had chosen to drive it because he felt that parking the lengthened Lincoln outside my house would be too conspicuous.
“Charles, Daisy, you can head back in. I’ll take Tay home so we can enjoy the full moon tonight.”

Gordon stood upright before the car. He was still holding my hand tightly as if he were afraid that I would refuse to go with him. I couldn’t break free no matter how hard I tried.
“Alright, it’s still early. You two can enjoy the full moon and have some ple. I put some in the trunk for you. A friend of your dad’s made it, and it’s Tay’s favorite–pumpkin pie.”
Mom beamed when she saw how caring Gordon was toward me.
“Alright. Bye Mom, bye Dad.”

My parents looked so happy that I couldn’t bring myself to ruin the mood and upset them. I pretended to lean against Gordon and wave sweetly to my parents.
However, I flung his hand away and shrank into a corner of the back seat the moment we got in the car. I tried my best to maintain a distance from him.
“What’s the matter? Am I a hedgehog? Why are you so far away?”
Gordon frowned as he looked at me. He tried to move over to my side.
I waved a hand hurriedly.
“Gordon, we’re done with the act. Let’s come clean. What are you taking me back for?”
Gordon looked both exasperated and amused.
