Chapter 57
When I woke up the following day, I realized I wasn’t home but in a hotel bed.
The room was quiet, with a faint scent in the air. Someone had changed me into pajamas.
There was a set of new workout clothes, a note on the bedside table, and a brand–new phone.
I wondered how I ended up here.
I sat up, rubbing my sore head to remember last night’s events.
Was it Hector who arranged this for me?
I picked up the note skeptically. It had a few lines written in bold letters, and it was from Hector.
The note read, “I had the hotel staff change your clothes. I also bought you a set of workout clothes. Your phone’s screen cracked last night, so I had it sent for repair and got you this new one. The SIM card has
been switched for you.”
He must have been afraid I’d misunderstand, so he explained everything on the note..
I got up from the bed and tried on the pink workout clothes laid out for me.
They fit perfectly, though I’d never tried such a feminine color.
I found Hector to be surprisingly considerate.
But how did he even know my size?
I wondered as I glanced around. It didn’t take long to notice that he had not only bought me clothes and a phone but also thoughtfully left some hangover pills and a bottle of mineral water.
It had been a while since I last drank, and the feeling of being hungover was unbearable.
So, I grabbed the hangover pill, swallowed it with water, and then turned on the phone.
It was brand new, but the SIM card was still mine. I logged into WhatsApp and found several unread messages–some from Hector and some from Gordon.
Hector sent a picture of me miserably hunched over a toilet and a text that read, “Don’t drink so much
next time.”
Gordon’s message was brief. It said, “How dare you stay out all night?”
I glanced at the time he sent the message. It was around midnight last night.
From his tone, it seemed he had already returned to Hovilham Residence.
Shouldn’t he have stayed with Sabrina in the hospital last night?
They were chatting so cheerfully, but was he really willing to leave?
My heart felt inexplicably torn every time I thought of Gordon and Sabrina. Just then, as if sensing my
Chapte
thoughts, he suddenly called me.
He rarely called me before and messaged me on WhatsApp.
Moreover, he never replied to or liked any of my posts and probably never even looked at them.
His own posts were always the same–just a dash since he rarely updated his status,
As far as I remember, the only time he posted anything on WhatsApp was after winning a basketball game.
The event organizer forced him to repost a promotional message.
I frowned at the blinking “Gordon” on the screen, hesitated momentarily, and then answered.
“Hello?”
“Where are you?*
“At the hotel.”
“With whom?”
His tone sharpened with intensity.
“I’ll be with whoever I want. It’s none of your business.”
I couldn’t be bothered else to him and hung up.
o say a
Suddenly, I felt inexplicably annoyed.
Why was I still so concerned about his every move?
Before this, I could completely ignore him and handle everything with ease.
But as soon as Sabrina appeared, it was like I reverted to caring too much about Gordon.
