Chapter 4
Chapter 4 Stop Gossiping
“What are you two chatting about? Come down. We’re home.” Edith opened the car door, looking at the two kids sitting closely, even their heads close together. Seeing this, she couldn’t help but smile.
She grabbed the luggage and said to Bonnie, “Bonnie, I really appreciate you arranging the house for us this time.”
Bonnie, a second-generation wealthy, had arranged a villa for her.
Bonnie rolled her eyes. “Come on. Don’t be polite to me. Just settle down with the kids and tidy up. Let me know if you need anything.
“Also, I’ve arranged for Ruben and Jeanne’s kindergarten. Once you settle down, you can start sending them to school.”
Edith gave Bonnie a big hug, sincerely grateful and nearly moved to tears. “Having you is truly wonderful!”
Bonnie knowingly pretended to be disliked. “I’d rather you just hand over the kids to me.”
Saying this, she pretended to bend down to hold the children.
“That’s not happening!” Hearing Bonnie’s words, Edith immediately turned around, picked up a child in each arm, and rushed into the house.
She thought, ‘My kids are the most important to me!’
When Edith went abroad, she found out she was pregnant.
At that moment, she burst into tears.
The reason why she cried was that these two unborn children were her only family in this world.
Edith quickly dealt with the matters of admission to kindergarten. One day, she took the two children to the school.
Bonnie had been worried about whether Ruben was fit for kindergarten, but Edith insisted and hoped that he could interact with peers as much as possible. Edith thought it might help his condition. Moreover, Jeanne was very good at looking after him.
Ruben was still wearing black-rimmed glasses, pressing his lips, looking at the bustling kids and their parents, clearly a bit overwhelmed.
Jeanne, noticing Ruben’s nervousness, hugged his arm. Her long curly hair made her look even more adorable. She raised her hand, gently touched Ruben’s face, and said, “Ruben, don’t be scared. I’ll always be with you.”
A few seconds later, Ruben nodded. After a few more seconds, he also raised his hand, mimicking Jeanne’s action to stroke her cheek.
After doing this, he quickly withdrew his hand, his smooth face flushing red.
Jeanne was surprised, covering her face with her hands, her big eyes blinking.
Edith was also surprised. Her smile was filled with satisfaction, warmth, and relief.
She thought, ‘Maybe our efforts really work. I hope soon Ruben can be like a normal child.’
“Alright, go inside now. I’ll come to pick you up after school,” Edith said gently, smiling as she helped them with their backpacks. Then she patiently reminded Jeanne, “Take good care of Ruben, okay?”
Jeanne clenched her fist. “Okay, Mom, I will!”
After watching Jeanne and Ruben enter the school with their tightly holding hands, Edith turned and left.
She didn’t go to rest after leaving. She took a taxi to a nearby old town district.
This was also the reason for her return to the country.
She had studied artifact conservation and restoration abroad and had returned this time because the Anel Group had recently taken on a major project, the development of the old city district, which was undergoing demolition. However, during the demolition, they discovered a large number of artifacts and antiques underground.
The quantity of these artifacts and antiques was enormous, and many needed restoration due to the demolition. If they wanted to build a museum for those artifacts, those artifacts had to be excellently restored.
Edith knew that the Anel Group was a subsidiary of the Peterson Group. Although she thought it unlikely to encounter Gideon during this project, she still didn’t want to take it on. But as a relic restorer of the International Artifacts Restoration Association, she had to follow orders.
The residents in the old city district had already moved, and the entire area was cordoned off.
Edith was allowed in only after showing her credentials.
On her way to the work site, she heard some people whispering.
“Who is she? I’ve never seen her before. She’s so pretty!”
“I don’t know her either.”
“But she’s indeed beautiful, an aloof beauty. Probably going to trigger men’s desire to conquer her!”
At that moment, a man carrying a stack of documents passed by, heard the words, stopped, frowned, and said, “What are you talking about? Her name is Edith, and she is a highly-paid artifact restorer hired by the company. Stop gossiping.”
After saying this, he thought to himself, ‘She’s also Mr. Peterson’s ex-wife.’
“Yes, Mr. Diaz.”
Edith had already walked far away and didn’t hear this conversation or see them talking.
Someone led her to the door of an office. Edith crooked her finger and knocked on the door.
“Come in.” A deep and slightly husky male voice came from inside.
