Chapter 16
When Gideon bent down to hug Jeanne, Edith reacted the next second.
She rushed over and held Jeanne in her arms, taking several steps back, her eyes full of alertness.
“Edith, is what she said true?”
Gideon’s words made Edith’s mind a mess.
But she knew she couldn’t show a trace of panic. Once Gideon found out something, he would surely get to the bottom of it.
Thinking of the possible consequence, Edith regained her composure and said, “She’s talking nonsense. Mr. Peterson, you won’t take the words of a child seriously, will you?”
Her tone sounded less confident as Gideon gazed at her with sharp eyes, and she almost couldn’t hide her nervousness.
Fortunately, Jeanne calmed down in her arms at this moment.
Catching a glimpse of Ruben standing at the gate of the kindergarten and holding their schoolbags, Jeanne recalled what he had told her.
He said they couldn’t cause trouble for Edith.
“Gideon, I’m sorry.”
Jeanne pouted with an aggrieved look. “I was bullied and sad, so I accidentally recognized the wrong father.”
Recognized the wrong father?’ Gideon wondered.
A trace of coldness flashed in Gideon’s eyes, and Joyce’s voice came from behind him. “Daddy!
“I knew you were going to
Seeing Jeanne crying in Edith’s arms, Joyce urged with guilt, “Daddy, I want to go home…”
“Okay.”
Gideon didn’t dwell on the question but looked at Edith thoughtfully before leaving.
His glance made Edith tense up again.
After he drove the Rolls-Royce away, Ruben walked to Edith with the schoolbags in hand without saying a word.
He wondered, ‘Did that bad guy bully Mommy again?’
At night, the entire network system of the Peterson Group crashed. Gideon had originally promised to accompany Joyce to dinner but had to rush to the company and work overtime until late at night.
After returning home, Bonnie looked at Jeanne, who was huddling in Edith’s arms and unwilling to leave, with mixed feelings.

“How about we transfer the children to another school?”
Edith was stunned for a moment, but then she felt it might be the only solution.
Jeanne stuck her head out and said, “Mommy, Ruben said he is our daddy. Why doesn’t he
want us?”
Her words choked Edith.
Edith once thought she could face the past calmly, but she found it hard to let go of Gideon when hearing his name.
While Edith was hesitating, Ruben stepped forward and held Jeanne’s little hand.
It was Ruben’s unique way to coax others.
Edith had only experienced it once in so many years. Jeanne was stunned and gave up. “Alright, I won’t ask anymore if there is cheese for dinner…”
Ruben looked at Jeanne, who was a foodie, and sighed speechlessly.
The atmosphere in the room finally livened up a little. Edith felt delighted and relieved when seeing the two children taking care of each other.
On the other side, Gideon, who had stayed up all night, was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window.
Ray pushed the door open and said, “Mr. Peterson, the system has been recovered. Aren’t you going back?”
Since Edith left, Gideon had worked overtime day and night. Even Ray felt worried about. him.
“Go find out what Edith has been doing these years.”
Wearing a cold face, Gideon said in a deep voice, “I want to know the results tomorrow. morning.”
‘Come on. Why did he occupy my sleeping time to investigate Mrs. Peterson?’
Ray was complaining crazily in his mind, but he responded with no objection and went out.
The next day, as soon as Edith arrived at the office, she saw the man sitting on the sofa.
When Gideon saw Edith walking in, a trace of ineffable emotion flashed across his eyes. “Why are you in such a rush to change the school?
“Edith, what are you hiding from me?”
Facing his inquiring gaze, Edith stood up straight without any trace of panic.
“Mr. Peterson, we haven’t seen each other for a few years. You’re still the same as before, but I didn’t expect you to become gossipy a lot.”
Edith harbored grievance, so her words were inevitably a bit sarcastic.
Gideon didn’t take it to heart but still stared at her, his voice light but firm. “You look guilty.”
“Gideon, you are still so confident in yourself.”
Edith sneered and added, “Why do you think that a woman who is you will be willing to give birth to your children?”

Since Gideon came to her, he must have already checked the children’s dates of birth.
Edith had already thought about this, so she asked Bonnie to help her make up fake ones, making it impossible for Gideon to find the truth.
Gideon’s face became more gloomy.
Edith clenched her fists and told herself that she couldn’t back off. “As for why I want to change their school, it’s my business and has nothing to do with you.
“Mr. Peterson, please go back if there is nothing else.”
Gideon stared at Edith for a long time before standing up.
He didn’t leave in the direction of the door but walked straight to her.
Behind Edith was a desk. She was forced to retreat and could only stand against the edge of
the desk.
“Gideon!”
She restrained herself in the tone, but Gideon didn’t listen to her and leaned over, shortening the distance between them.
Her hands putting on her waist sent Edith a thrill all over.
“Don’t be stubborn. You obviously like it.”
Gideon wore a smile, his face softening a lot. He had to admit that he was very satisfied with Edith’s reaction.
Realizing he was playing her around, Edith was irritated instantly.
She used all her strength to push him away and slapped him in a fit of temper.
The crisp sound attracted Ray, who was waiting outside the door.
Looking at Edith’s hand in the air and the red mark on Gideon’s face, Ray went out silently.
“Gideon, I didn’t know you have the hobby of harassing your ex-wife.”
Edith looked angry, panting slightly, but Gideon said calmly, “You’re not my ex-wife.”
Edith didn’t give him a chance to speak again and turned around to leave.
Gideon was left in the office, staring at her back in a daze, and Ray was confused outside the door.
Just as Edith left the office and didn’t know where to go, she received a call from Shane.
Shane had a car accident.
Edith rushed to the hospital and saw a female doctor standing in front of the bed and examining Shane.
“Are you all right?”
When Edith walked over, she heard a familiar voice.
“Ms. Jones, don’t worry. Your husband is fine. The injury is not serious. He will be fine after several days of rest,” Danika said.

Shane was a little embarrassed but didn’t deny he was Edith’s husband.
Danika smiled and invited Edith to her office to talk about Shane’s injury.
Edith couldn’t refuse and let Shane wait for her.
Seeing Danika walking ahead in a white coat with a bright smile, Edith couldn’t help but feel a wave of bitterness.
Edith thought, ‘It turns out that she’s a doctor…”
