The Palace Beast

Chapter 48 - Captured

In the Land of Yizi, the other warlocks watched in silence as Kalth set the firewood ablaze. The guard cried in terror as the flames burn through his skin. The pain was so agonizing that he let out a great cry of pain. His screams can be heard from a far distance. "You are next, troll, what's your last wish?" said Kalth, pointing towards the troll tied beside the guard.

"Please have mercy. Spare my life, I beg of you. I will do anything for you," the troll cried out. He was very terrified just by the screams of the guard.

As Kalth approached the troll to set the troll's stake on fire, he heard a voice that said in a loud tone from behind him, "Stop this, I want them alive. They belong to me now."

Kalth turned around and looked at the man dressed in red robes. He stared deep into his eyes and suddenly the eyes of the man turned red. He smiled at Kalth displaying his fangs. His look and fangs could tell that he is a vampire. "I know your kind has a great interest in humans but why a troll? Anyways, this is none of your business, you bloodsucker. Go away now or get dragged," Kalth replied.

"Watch your tongue; I am here to take these two, They belong to me now. If you don't put out the fire and add them over to me, I will start ripping out your hearts one after another," said Ambrogio as he displayed his fangs with a smile. "What makes you think a vampire can command me?"

"I have the Warlock Lord's permission and above all, I am the first vampire that has ever walked this earth. But I have not come to make trouble but here with the permission of the warlock. Hand them over and your heart won't be ripped out," Ambrogio said as he hands Kalth a small piece of paper with a blood seal.

After reading thoroughly, a change came over his face. He threw the flaming torch away and turned towards the guard whose feet had been completely destroyed by the flames. The guard was still in pain, with tears streaming down his face. Kalth draws out his sword as he made his way to the guard's stake. Instantly, the flames under the guard's feet were extinguished.

He then ordered the other warlock to untie the troll and clear the place. Though the guard has escaped death, his feet had been completely destroyed by the flames.

After the warlocks walked away, Ambrogio walked up to the guard and tossed a bottle of red liquid at him. "Drink this; it will heal your wounds."

The guard without hesitation removed the wooden stopper and drinks from it. The liquid tasted like the blood which was strange to the guard but it healed his destroyed feet instantly.

The guard doesn't know who Ambrogio is but he knows a vampire when he sees one. He has heard stories of the maidens that were turned into vampires. He doesn't know what will be of him but he is grateful to Ambrogio for healing him. Ambrogio cast a condescending sideways glance at him and ordered three of the vampires with him to bring the guard and the troll with them.

The vampires couldn't resist the order of Ambrogio who sired them. They were amongst the vampires' clans sired by Ambrogio. Thye quickly tied the guard and the troll and loaded them onto a small oxcart.

"I have never heard of human trespassing into warlocks' territory. What are you doing in their castle?" the troll seated beside the guard spoke up with his eyes fixed on the guard.

Upon hearing the voice of the troll, the guard finally looked at the troll as he tried to understand what it was. The troll has grey skin and dark yellow reflective sclera with black irises that fill in with their blood color as they age. The troll also has pointed teeth, yellow nails, black lips, and black hair.

After gazing at it for a while, the guard finally asked, "Who are you or should I say, what are you?"

"I am a troll and my name is Eux. What's your name?"

He smiled and answered, "My name is Festus."

"Oh-oh! That's a very strange name. You are not from the mountainside are you?"

"What mountainside?"

"You don't know the kingdom surrounded by mountains? That's the kingdom of the humans."

Many questions flooded Festus' mind. He still couldn't understand what was going on and what this strange new place he is going will look like. In all his time with the warlocks and now with Ambrogio, he hasn't seen a single human face when he was tied to a stake beside a troll. He knew he had to find out more about the creatures he had encountered, so he turned to face Eux.

"Who were those who wanted to burn us alive? And why did this fanged creature rescue us? What place is this we are going that looks so strange like this?"

"You really sound like you have lost your memory. The creatures who were trying to burn us are warlocks and the man who just rescued us is a vampire. This vampire is a powerful and wealthy one, his name is Ambrogio."

At this time, Festus realized he is no longer anywhere close to Maxis or any of the neighboring kingdoms. He peeped outside the moving cart and asked, "What do you call this place?"

He was once told a story by his mother when he was a child, the story of creatures living in a far away land from humans. The humans were forbidden to come there and anyone who was seen around the creatures' land will be captured and killed and in some cases, will be the creatures' slaves.

"This is the land of Yizi, a land filled with all creatures of different kinds," replied Eux.

Festus turned towards Eux and whispered, "I have heard many stories about this place by my mother. I need to find a way to get off this oxcart."

Eux stared at him with a confused expression on his face. "There is no way you can easily escape the vampires. They can run very fast."

"It does not matter, I have to find a way to return to my kingdom before I get vamped."

"I heard rumors about two other humans claiming to be from Egypt."

Festus switches his gaze at the troll once more, "They must have visited Maxis because we do business with Egypt. Where are they now?" "They have been burnt to ashes by the warlocks who wanted to end us."

"I can't believe this is happening to me. My wife will be..."

"Halt! What do you have here?" shouted a tiny voice outside the oxcart.
