Chapter 7
The next day went by pretty fast. It was like I was going through the motions. Talked to Alex some, which I was a little scared because I still haven’t told him about everything going on and yesterday he was really showing that he liked me. Well, after school I met up with Jason and we began to walk home. When we got home, I opened the door and saw a orange-blonde wolf. I was startled at first but then I heard Jason say
“Hey, Amber. How have you been? Sorry, I have not been home, Harrison’s orders.”
The wolf got up and looked at him.
“You could have at least told me. I heard you went to the Otherside the yesterday. Is it true?” The wolf walked up closer so she could get a better look at me. “It’s true! Jamie!” She was excited. I was in shock and could not say a word. “Do you not remember me?” Her eyes started to lose the excitement.
“Y-you can talk.” I managed to make out.
Jason stood closer to me I think he was afraid that I would pass out or something. “She does not remember much of anything Amber, give her time.”
Amber sighed. “Oh yeah” She paused and then looked down “The memory lock. It’s okay we didn’t talk much, but I did help get you here. I was just hoping you would remember at least that much by now...”
Jason thought for a moment as she spoke. “You knew where she was this whole time?!? You said you left her with Harrison who took her! ” He was pissed.
Amber looked down knowing she shouldn’t have said that. “I’m sorry Jason. I was told to keep quiet.”
Jason got in her face. “You kept this from me for over a year.”
Amber stood up on her hind legs. “I had no choice! This wasn’t supposed to happen; you finding her this soon!”
I quickly started moving to get between them. “Stop it!” I yelled as I got between them and put my hands on both of their chests. I think Amber’s fur triggered this memory because after that I felt myself falling as went into a flash.
I was in a room with a table where I was sitting next to a brown haired, golden eyed woman. She was teaching me Latin. Harrison quickly came through the door out of nowhere. “Melanie, Jamie, we need to get out of here!” He yelled as he walk towards me and started pulling my arm.
“Love, calm down. What is going on?” Melanie said as she got up and followed as we made our way out the door.
“They are attacking and their numbers are too great!” He replied to her.
“Then hurry! I will meet you at the safe point my love. Focus on protecting her.” He walked faster dragging me along. I think I was in shock more than anything.
We got into the throne room, trying to make our way out. My dad was there in the throne room with his guards, his hair was short and grey with a trimmed beard and mustache. He had hazel eyes like mine. My dad and his guards were fighting the enemy. There were spells being casted left and right, fighting and biting as well.
Harrison and I ran into Jason. “Jason!” Harrison yelled. “Get her out of here now! I’m going to get her father out of here!” Jason quickly grabbed my arm, pulled me away from Harrison and before he started pulling me towards the door, I saw my father being stabbed with a sword.
“Nooo!” I cried out trying to run towards him, but Jason grabbed me and threw me over his shoulder.
“Get her out of here!” Harrison yelled. “Meet me at the safe point!” Jason kept running but we ran into more mess outside. There weren’t as many outside as there were inside. Jason saw Amber and another wolf there, it was a dark grey.
Jason pulled Amber aside. “Go take her to the safe point. Harrison will be there shortly. The king is dead.” He tried putting me on her back as he spoke but I wouldn’t let go of him.
“I don’t want to lose you too.” I was hysterical. He kissed me passionately and all seemed to fade for that moment.
Then he looked me in the eyes “When this is over I will find you, I promise.” He put me on Amber’s back, I held on tight as we took off.
The memory ends there I think it was because I blacked out or something. I woke up on the couch, Amber, Jason and Harrison, who I guess came in after hearing all the commotion, talking things out.
I slowly sat up and sighed. “I remember the takeover.” I paused and turned to Harrison. “What happened to Melanie?” my eyes were sad because I sort of already knew.
Harrison shook his head. “She didn’t get out in time. She never arrived at the safe point.” I then looked at Amber.
“Thank you, by the way. I do not know if I got to tell you that or not.”
Amber shook her head. “Don’t worry about it. You blacked out from your dad’s spell he cast. It took a bit for the effect to start.” She then looked at Jason.
“I will tell Rex you are staying here. Alice will be upset though.” I must have looked confused because Jason looked at me and went in to explain.
“Rex is a dark grey wolf, you might have saw him fighting in the background of your dream, and Alice...” He paused. “You know I will introduce you to her sometime, but she is a good friend back home.” He then looked back to Amber. “She will have to get over the fact I won’t be there for a while.”
I thought for a moment grasping that information. “You live in the Otherside?”
Jason looked back and chuckled. “Yes, I do and I live with Amber, Rex and Alice, but right now I’m living with you and I will protect you. I’m not losing you again.” He knelt down beside me and hugged me. Harrison got up and headed towards the kitchen. I kissed Jason on the cheek
“I will be right back.” I said as I got up and followed Harrison.
“I’m sorry.” I said once we made it to the kitchen. He turned around with a confused look on his face. “I’m sorry about what happened to her. If it weren’t for me you would have been able to get her out.” I began to explain as my head slowly dropped.
I heard him walk closer and he lifted up my chin so I could look in his eyes. “You were and still are like a daughter to us. It’s what she wanted.” He kissed my forehead. “You are growing into a beautiful young woman, and she would be proud of you.” He turned around and began to cook.
“I-I have a question.” I said shyly. So much was going on in my head. I understood so much more now why he was so protective and why he was struggling so much.
“And I might have an answer.” He replied.
“Who attacked us and what exactly is the Otherside in general. I mean foreign relation wise.”
Harrison sighed. “It’s a long thing to explain. Can it wait until after dinner?” He asked still in the middle of cooking. ”
“Okay.” I paused. “And thank you.... for everything.” I walked back out to Jason and Amber.
