The Otherside: Jay McClayn: A Quest For Love (Book 4)

Chapter 2

I finished paperwork around 4:30PM. After that I went and took a shower, and put on some nicer clothes. I put on my white corset, my black mini skirt and my knee high boots. I put my wand in my left boot and then braided my long blond hair, that normally rests around my hips and put on my diamond tiara headband. After that I grabbed my black hooded cloak with silver embroidery on the edges and put it on. I was ready to meet with Christina and Harrison. I then went to the throne room and met with Nikki before my departure.

“If anything happens while I am gone you are in charge. Plus you know how to reach me.” I hugged her.

“I know, Jay. Be careful and see you back soon?” She replied.

“I should be.” I said as we both let go. I quickly opened the portal and appeared in their living room. They live in the same house we were at about 7 years ago.

“Good to see you Jay.” Christina said as she came and hugged me.

“Where is Harrison?” I asked confused as to what this was all about.

“He is finishing up in the kitchen.” Right when Christina finished that sentence he came walking out.

He bowed. “Well hello my queen.” He smirked and then hugged me. “It has been to long.”

I sighed. “I know it has. So what did you need to talk about?” I asked just trying to get to the bottom of this.

“Let’s talk about it after dinner, Christina made tuna sandwiches and Clam Chowder.” Harrison said pushing the news off till later. I think he wanted to catch up first. We all sat down at the table; Christina and Harrison were across from me.

“How have you been, Jay, it has been a few months since we have talked.” I swallowed the chowder that was in my mouth.

“Well, not much really. Just been running my kingdom. What about you two?” I asked trying to be polite.

“Well we have not been up to much. Christina is back to being a principal, showing them it was right to hire her back. And I have been doing some repair jobs here and there. Nothing much really.” Harrison answered.

“I see.” I replied, the conversation died until we were done eating.

“Let me get the desert.” Christina said sneaking off to the kitchen with the empty plates and bowls.

“That’s al..” She was gone before I could finish my denial. I sighed.

“I’m sorry if this is hard for you.” Harrison said letting me know he understood. “I know this question might be hard for you, but have you been searching still?”

I sighed at his question. “I had to quit searching for Jason two years ago. I was letting the kingdom slip, and Nikki couldn’t do it without me.” I took a sip of water, my hands were shaking a bit. Christina came in with brownies. “Thank you.” I said while taking it, trying not to be rude. I shook off my nerves from the mention of Jason. “Now, what is it you needed to talk to me about? Or is it just a social call?” I asked getting down to business.

“Jay, we need to talk to you about Jason.” Christina said as she was sitting back down. My hands began to shake again. My emotions were beginning to churn.

“What about Jason?” I said trying to contain emotions.

“Jay, I think I saw him the other day while I was doing a maintenance job up in Denton. I think he is going to school up there.” Harrison said getting to the point.

“You... saw him?” I took a deep breath, trying to keep my emotions in check and my curse from taking over. I was at a metaphorical fork in the road. Should I try finding him on a “I think I saw him” from Harrison, or should I go home and not bother. I thought it over for a minute on what to say. “Can you take me there?” I said sucking in the mixed emotions.

He pulled out a key from his pocket and handed it to me. “Your bike is in the garage. Take it if you want to search.” Harrison responded to my question with a different solution.

“Let me talk to Nikki, and see if she needs me.” I got up and went into the living room. They stayed in the other room giving me privacy. I was torn between my want to find him and answers, and my job and duty.

I searched for Nikki in my mind and found her. ”Nikki meet me in the dark room.” I sent the message to her mind. I sat down at the couch and closed my eyes. Now the dark room was our code. When two psychic minds focus completely on each other there is a bridge that is formed. That bridge I nicknamed the dark room. It is where me and her go for a completely private conversation. A few minutes after concentration she appeared.

“Nikki, I have a conundrum.” I started off.

“I know, go after him.” She replied.

“Were you spying or did Harrison tell you?” I asked confused by her knowledge.

“Both, but does it really matter now. Go find him and get your answers. I will watch the kingdom, plus Alexander can help me this time. We will be able to do this temporarily so just hurry back and let me know when you find him.” She hugged me.

“Okay, I will go and let you know.” Our chat ended with that. When I opened my eyes Harrison and Christina were standing in front of me. Harrison held out the key to me.

“Are you going?” He asked for a conclusion.

I took the key. “Yes, I’m going but I got to get a place to stay up there just in case.” He handed me another key.

“What is the second one?” I was confused.

“A motel. I knew you would want to investigate.” He answered.

We talked more about directions and such. Then I was on my way. When I got there it was around 8PM. It was too late to search so I went to the room Harrison got for me and waited for the next day to search for Jason.
