Chapter 15
After I laid down I quickly fell asleep and I apparently slept too long. I was awoken with cold water dumped on me. I quickly sat up and opened my eyes to see Loveless. I looked over to see that Jason was gone. He was studying magic with Harrison
“What’s going on?!? Why did you do that?!?” I asked angered.
“You were sleeping too long. It is almost noon. Did you find the spell yesterday?” She is not a very patient person with her emotions.
I sighed. “Yes, I found it. It will take me sometime to get everything made. It is a two part spell. You need a potion as well as some of my magic. Now I must warn you that there are a few loopholes. There is the magical way that I can get rid of it, but there are two other ways. One of them is what happened this last time, if I die, this spell will break. The second is probably something you don’t know, true love, as corny as that sounds, breaks it.” She laughed at that last one.
“True love my butt. My cousin broke it once.” She grew quiet and then shook it off.
“Your cousin... You mean Vincent?” I must of had a disgusted face, I know it was in my voice.
“Yes, we have been fighting for years. Zachariah was really patient with me. Even though I hated his son.” I was a little confused. The only conclusion I could come up with is that my family is mentally insane.
“So was this stupid spell the only reason you threw cold water on me?” I said getting out of bed. I was getting back to the point. I magically changed my clothes and pulled my wet hair into a ponytail.
“No, this came for you.” She grabbed an envelope out from her pocket and handed it to me. “Samantha is trying to make contact again.” I took it, opened it and glanced at the contents of the letter.
Queen Jamie Ally Hart,
We need to strike a deal and work this out. We need to talk in a calmer manner this time. Vincent and I will meet Loveless and you to strike a deal next week. Get to thinking on what you are willing to give up to get his memories back in the meantime. I may or may not accept it. I will contact you in a week about the location. If you do not show up the memories will be destroyed. I cannot wait to meet you again.
Samantha Nighthawk.
“She wants to barter for his memories.” Loveless sighed at my statement.
“I know what she wants to do, but we aren’t going to barter remember? We are going to take her out. You do not have to give anything up if we destroy her.” Her voice was full of anger and revenge. I set the letter on the night stand and grabbed the book. Her emotional self scared me a lot. I brought our attention back to the task of getting her clear headed and emotionless again.
“Let us make a list of all we need. You and I are going to collect all the items we need for the potion. Let’s go sit at the table and make a list and figure out where to get everything.”
“I know what we need.” She pulled out a piece of paper. “Zachariah made me search for the stuff after Vincent ruined the spell the first time.” I opened the book and glanced at the list again. Sage, Rat tail, Bittersweet, Liatrus, White Rose, Cacao, Frog Brain, Cayenne, Feverfew, Pine , Leech, Salt , Seaweed, Eye of Newt, Pixie Dust, Blood of the Caster, and Loveless Ice. I read them off in my head.
“All of these ingredients are easy to find at the market, except one.” I paused. “I understand your name now. We need to find loveless ice. I thought it was a myth.”
Loveless chuckled. “It exists on Mount Aphrodite in the rebel territory. When frozen, it is used for taking away emotions, but when it melts before making a potion it has the opposite. This ice is the most important ingredient and the hardest to get because it can easily melt.”
I closed the book. “I see. Let us get all the stuff we can from the list at the market and then get the ice. We will do it there so it does not melt on the way back.”
A big smile sprouted on her face. “Let’s get packing.” she said as she turned around and began to leave.
“We aren’t leaving until tomorrow. We will get stuff from the market today though.” I called out as she was walking away. She did a salute of acknowledgement while she continued out the door. After she was gone I took a deep sigh. All I could think was: “What did I get myself into?”
