Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Alexandra looked around with wide eyes. “Is Julian asking for my opinion?” she wondered.
The contract did not say that after they entered the fake marriage, Julian got to sleep in the bed as the boss, and Alexandra had to sleep on the sofa as the employee.
Alexandra had not violated the contract or forced Julian to sleep on the sofa.
Julian had brought it up himself.
So…
It was best to obey.
Julian then saw Alexandra grab her blanket and phone and zoom onto the big bed.
Alexandra sat on the bed and wrapped herself up in the blanket. Finally, she flashed a rare smile at Julian. “Mr. Ranford, since you are such a gentleman, I won’t make it difficult for you. After all, I am not very good at making things difficult. I have always been very obedient.”
Julian was speechless.
Alexandra’s attitude had changed so quickly.
The corner of Julian’s lip twitched.
He walked away without saying anything.
After Julian left, Alexandra let out a disappointed sigh.
“Oh…” she thought.
“The test is in one week…”
Alexandra ignored Julian for the next two days.
Alexandra was always the first to fall asleep at night and would not even know when Julian came in. When Alexandra woke up in the morning, the sofa would be empty.
During the day, Alexandra would stroll around the University of Highclere until night fell. She would then take the public
bus home.
After returning home, she would eat dinner. After finishing dinner, she would run back to her room, avoiding Josephine and Caroline at all costs.
Even though the days were a bit nerve–wracking and stressful, Alexandra had great food to eat and nobody gave her trouble.
Other than worrying that she could not pass the test next Monday, Alexandra did not have anything else to worry about.
At noon one day, Alexandra was tired of strolling down the street behind the University of Highclere. She messaged Emery on WhatsApp to ask when classes were over and if Emery wanted to eat lunch together.
Emery replied to Alexandra quickly. [Sure, I’m out of class now. Where do you want to go?]
There was a hamburger restaurant next to Alexandra, and it looked delicious. She wanted to eat lunch with Emery there, but thinking that it might be too far for Emery to walk to, Alexandra texted, [Where are you now?]
[I’m at Lecture Hall C.]
Chapter 22
Alexandra remembered that Lecture Hall C was next to Dining Hall 1. She messaged Emery. [Go wait for me at the lobby of Dining Hall 1. I’ll be there ASAP! What kind of coffee do you like? I’ll bring one for you!]
[A regular latte. Thanks, Alex!]
Alexandra went to the coffee shop nearby and bought two large cups of coffee. She then strode happily into the University of Highclere.
Since it was the lunch break, many people were going to and fro on campus.
Alexandra had only been there for two days, but she was already in love with the atmosphere. She loved the environment, the academic atmosphere, and the early fall season of this northern city.
After Alexandra arrived at Dining Hall 1, she looked around. This hall could seat more than 1,000 people, but she quickly found Emery, who was sitting by herself.
Alexandra walked over and placed the coffee that she had bought on the table. “Here you go. What do you want to eat? I can go buy it.”
Emery was wearing a pale blue tracksuit, and her hair was in a ponytail. As usual, her cane was beside the chair. “The beef burrito bowl and risotto on the first floor are delicious,” she said. “What do you want to eat? My treat.”
Alexandra laughed. “I am not a picky eater. I will go buy one serving of risotto and one beef burrito bowl. We can eat whichever we want.”
With that, Alexandra went to buy the food.
Emery picked up the latte that Alexandra had bought for her and looked in Alexandra’s direction. She was in line to buy the beef burrito bowl and looking around while waiting.
Emery felt very lucky. She had already been at the university for one year, but she was able to meet a bright and sunny girl like Alexandra in her second year.
Shortly after, Alexandra walked over with the food tray.
She worried that it would not be enough for the two of them, so she ordered a large beef burrito bowl. When the staff helped her pack up the food, she realized that the University of Highclere was very generous with the servings.
It was such a big bowl.
Alexandra and Emery probably would not be able to finish it all.
Alexandra looked at the big beef burrito bowl and scratched her head. “I did not know the serving would be so big.”
Emery laughed and said, “That is because everything is on a higher level here at the University of Highclere.”
Alexandra thought about it. “You’re right.”
The two girls giggled at each other and started to share the food.
This was Alexandra’s first time eating a burrito bowl. She had not eaten this kind of food before in her hometown. After the first bite, she decided she was in love with the taste.
“Amazing!” Alexandra could not help but give a thumbs up.
Emery’s eyes curved into a smile. The University of Highclere has four dining halls,” she explained. “I have eaten practically everything. There’s a lot of delicious food.”
“Really? I am going to set a small goal for myself. I am going to eat all the delicacies of the University of Highclere this semester.” Alexandra was a foodie. Her eyes shone whenever she talked about food.
Chapter 22
Emery placed a piece of beef onto Alexandra’s plate. “First, you gotta finish the burrito bowl you bought.”
As the two girls ate, Alexandra suddenly smelled the pungent smell of perfume.
She looked behind her and lost her appetite.
It was Martha, who Alexandra had seen in the assembly hall two days ago.
Immediately, Alexandra could not stomach her food anymore.
Three girls walked over in total–Martha, Kelly, and another girl.
Martha was wearing a yellow–gold strapped dress and a ruby necklace around her neck that shimmered.
Kelly stood beside Martha. Kelly was a petite little girl who seemed harmless. She wore a dark blue flax dress instead of a traditional one.
Alexandra looked up and studied the three girls. “What?” she asked Martha. “If you want to eat, then I will share with you. I
can’t finish it all.”
Martha rolled her eyes and snorted. “Ms. Emery Walters, congratulations,” she said dramatically. “You made a new friend as soon as the semester started, but who is this girl that you befriended? Alexandra Doherty? I have never heard of this name in Highclere City’s circle before.”
“Are you jealous? Even if you want to be friends with me, a princess like me will not be friends with you.”
Alexandra rolled her eyes right back at Martha. Alexandra knew that these girls were socialites in Highclere’s elite circle, but she had nothing to be afraid of.
Alexandra did not know them, so why should she be afraid?
Alexandra set down her fork. No matter how delicious the food was, she lost her appetite after seeing these gross people.
On the other hand, Emery had stopped eating the moment the three girls had walked over.
She sat obediently in her chair. Her expression stiffened as well.
Martha scoffed and stuck her chin out haughtily. “Are you a princess or a country bumpkin?”
Emery’s hands clenched into fists. It was fine for the girls to bully her, but seeing them bully Alexandra, Emery could not take it anymore. Emery took a deep breath and said to Martha, “Martha, stop picking a fight for no reason.”
“Wow, wow, look at this. Our gentle Ms. Walters has a temper now too.” The girls started laughing. Some of the surrounding students also came over to watch the show.
Emery’s face flushed bright red.
Alexandra could not take it anymore. Wanting to end the fight, she stood up and said to Emery, “Come on, we’ll go eat somewhere else.”
Emery grasped the cane by the table and stood up as well.
After Emery took two steps, Martha suddenly walked over. The tip of Martha’s high heels “accidentally” kicked Emery’s cane. The path was already a tight squeeze, and Emery lost balance. Her body twisted, and she fell to the ground.
