The New World

Chapter 25 – They’ve been picked

I watched as Anna walked into the meeting room, her eyes opening wide as she saw the two little ones playing on the floor. She was the last to show up and she looked rather confused as to why they would be there, not that I blamed her. I didn’t have my kids here very often because they couldn’t offer much. But seeing as they have their own means of communicating; well, now they had more to say.

“Okay, as you are aware, Anna showed you the video we received,” Grayson started when Anna sat down. “Now, we are going to show you more. It seems I have two little spies here and they need to share.”

“Share how? They can’t talk. And even so, what the hell could have been seen and when?” Derrick asked and I laughed.

“I think we overlook that these two are unique, that they aren’t like other kids, their development won’t be like other kids. Their powers might be boosted in ways unheard of, which is to our advantage,” I told Derrick but it was addressed to the whole crowd. “Their ability to hear, to growl, or to even use magic has never been done at this tender age, and yet it has for them.”

“They aren’t just wolves, or vampires, but they have witches' blood as well. No one for sure knows about them but you here and those select few in the pack, but they have been rumored about because we got asked about them,” Grayson continued. “And it’s even far more certain now that nothing gets out.”

“What’s so bad about someone asking?” Jonah asked and I lifted Rosemina up who smiled and laid her head on my shoulder.

“Mama.”

“I know baby.” I looked at Jonah who was amazed at that clear word. “You have seen the proof the Alpha was found. I’m going to believe it was Francis and he was at the ceremony last night, asking about the babies. And before I clarify, let the twins show you.” I handed him Rosemina who just looked at me. “Show Jonah what you should mama baby, it’s okay.” She grabbed his cheeks and made him look at her. “Just focus on what she’s sending you.” Jonah peered into her eyes, holding onto her little arms, finally blinked, and handed her back.

“That...” He couldn’t finish and I couldn’t blame him.

“What did you see?” Dylan asked and I nodded my head.

“All of you will get the communication from the twins. They can’t talk but they can share this way. I’m also going to believe they talk to each other,” Grayson said. I sat down and watched as the kids giggled as they were passed from person to person, each showing as they best could.

Finally, everyone sat down and stared at the twins before glancing between Grayson and myself. I could see the questions in their eyes and waited for them to start coming out. Tessa glanced back at the twins and stood up.

“They have powers well beyond what we thought, and they are wolf and vampire?” I lifted Rayne up and nodded.

“Yes. Rayne has more vampire tendencies; he leans more to the drinking of blood whereas Rosemina rarely drinks it. But she’s stronger in her wolf side,” I said as I kissed his cheek, making him grin. “And for the most part, Rayne is a mama’s boy.” I shared a laugh with Grayson who was currently holding Rosemina. Tessa shook her head. “Ask whatever you need to, Tessa.”

“That man the kids saw, that was him, this other God?”

“I’m going to say yes. I’m also going to say that he’s my uncle.” That caused many heads to snap up. “You caught that he was talking about me, right?”

“Well, yes,” Derrick started but shook his head, “that would mean that he’s Sol’s brother as well. And means things might be crazier.” I sat Rayne down on the floor, letting him play with his toys, and stood up, pacing.

“I know it’s odd, it’s my family tree and I’m still shocked. But the day we started discussing the whole weapons and we had our little fight,” I started, catching Grayson’s glance, “we had a visitor. Don’t you remember Derrick; after all, you were shocked to see the God just sitting on the chair.”

“Yeah, Sol was here,” he said, leaning back in his chair. “Why was he here?”

“He gave me a list after you left,” I said as I walked over to a cabinet and pulled out a paper. The writing was a flowy script, more like an old-style old script rather than penmanship. “He realized that, yes, we were figuring things out, but there were some words and translations we’d have more problems with and that it might be more vital to figure out.

“This list is his. He gave it to us to try and help us. He knew Demonio was a lot closer to finding his Alpha than we knew and he wanted us to be ready.”

“I don’t understand why they don’t just fight this shit, especially if they are related. Time limits or not, why can’t they take him out?” Dylan asked, looking over the list as well.

“Powershift. Demonio is a God and has his own place and that place needs a ruler, just like any of us. However more silent in regards, Sol does rule over vampires. He has destroyed some when needed, but of course, it’s rare,” Grayson answered. “We aren’t here to destroy Gods, even given the power we have as being born from them.”

“We are here to fight and defend,” Jonah added, pulling out his phone to take a picture of the list. “Gods can’t kill each other’s creatures and they can’t kill each other.”

“That is not possible,” Tessa commented. “I’ve seen some of these words and could never figure out their context. Nothing was similar that I knew of, but this for sure helps.”

“That’s great,” I said, nodding at her. “Because we need to get on the ball. He already has two creatures under his belt. And though it pains me to say this as these are my species here, vampires are the weakest while I’ve seen that witches are the most powerful.”

“Dark families aren’t open in their practices, you know,” Jonah said, looking at me. “We don’t shoot flames on a constant basis to give us away.”

“No, I don’t think you would. But I knew Francis, and yes, I can see how he would have been picked. It’s not just power that Demonio needs. It’s the need to rule, the feeling of no loyalty to care what happens to your people,” Grayson told him and Jonah shook his head.

“I can’t vouch for Tessa, but I will this say this for me. I have had friends, in my many years that have played with the dark arts and are just as loyal to their family as any other witch family. This isn’t like looking at a vampire who tortures before he feeds and could care less how his coven behaves and this isn’t like looking at a strong Alpha who cares so little for his pack but so much for power.

“There are families, and leaders of those families who have been around for centuries. It’s not as if I can pinpoint or we can pinpoint,” Jonah stated, crossing his arms. He was right and I knew that. I could see The General in the role he became, and even Grayson said he could see Francis in that role, in fact, he was on the list Anna and he had come up, just not at the top of the list. But a witch was different and we all knew that would be harder to pick out and narrow down. It’s probably why we didn’t push it, because it was just about impossible.

“I get it, Jonah, I do. And I will take what knowledge I have to help in any way I can if you think it would help,” I offered and Jonah nodded. “Now we have another problem we need to figure out. With the Alpha in the picture, these weapons need to be formed, so we need to discuss who will be willing to go.”

“As the future King, I think I should go, just because...”

“You better not say strong Grayson,” Anna said, cutting him off. “Because I don’t agree.” The two stared off for a moment before I put my hand on Grayson’s shoulder and shook my head. I know what he wanted to do but we couldn’t take that chance.

“I think as someone who has lived for as long as I have and has walked that line multiple times, I should...”

“Don’t finish that sentence.” We all turned to look at the woman who stood at the doorway and Dylan and Anna bowed their heads.

“Lunella,” I said, smiling. “What great timing you have.”

“I can’t stay long Fire, but I came to warn you why neither you nor Grayson can go to that plane. Besides the obvious reason that you two are the future leaders and that’s a chance we just can’t take.”

“Please enlighten us then,” Grayson said, holding onto a squirming Rosemina who was smiling at the Goddess. Lunella walked over to her and kissed her cheek.

“You are precious little ones, both you and your brother; your future is bright.” Lunella turned to look at Grayson and me once more. “Fire, you are on Demonio’s radar, have been for a while. And now Grayson is too. If he senses you in his domain, believe me, he will trap you and all of this will be for naught.” She turned and looked back at the company and smiled. “The team had been picked already; Anna, Tessa, and Derrick. They have more experience than others navigating that area and they will need you, Fire and Grayson, to pull them back.”
