The mate finding spell business - book 1

Chapter 2 - Mate

DIMA’S POV

Dima didn’t know what to think. All that craziness and pain was for him to get his mate? He undoubtedly had the best mother in the whole world!

It was cold inside the vortex, but as soon as that sensation came, it went. Traveling inside the vortex was weird. Dima felt as if he was free falling.

His bear started stirring in his head, this time not from fear of their crazy mother but due to the wonderful scent reaching their nostrils. It smelt like a sweet mix of carnations and gardenias.

MATE!’ Dima’s bear rumbled in his mind right at the moment the vortex spitted him out, and they landed on a soft and extremely good smelling bed.

Dima closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, holding in the scent of his mate in his lungs and then slowly exhaling. A small whimper and soft movement from under him made him open his eyes and lock his gaze with soft amber eyes.

“Mate...” Dima whispered, and another whimper sounded from his tiny mate. He could tell she was scared, and he was the reason. After all, it’s not an everyday thing for your naked mate to come from a portal and land on top of you while you’re sleeping, or at least, he hoped not. Slowly, as to not hurt or scare his mate, Dima started moving back.

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!” The yell scared Dima, and he fell on top of his mate while trying to cover his ears and protect her at the same time.

What a confusion, Dima thought.

His mate started whimpering louder and moving under him, he felt her fear skyrocket, but with the unknown threat and the loud footsteps coming towards his mate’s bedroom, there was no way he could move from on top of her.

He looked towards his mate’s bedroom door and saw a girl with dark brown curls in the doorway. She had a look of shock on her face and had dropped a bowl of what smelled like chicken soup.

‘Chicken soup? Is my mate sick?’ Dima wondered before looking down at his mate. Her pretty amber eyes had heavy dark circles surrounding them, her skin looked a sickly white while what could be seen from the top of her cheekbones was a dark red color. Dima lifted his left hand and was going to put it on his mate’s forehead when she closed her eyes and whimpered.

“I’m not going to hurt you, my little mate,” Dima whispered and tenderly caressed her overly hot cheeks. He let his hand wander higher and put it on his mate’s forehead, feeling her burning. She was, undoubtedly, sick.

“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?” A man yelled angrily from the doorway. Dima let his attention wander away from his mate and stared at the man and two women in his mate’s doorway. The man took a second to examine the situation, and before Dima could even react or associate how they were related to his mate, he felt a bolt of electricity zap him and throw him off the bed. His chest and shoulder burned horribly and, it hurt like hell, but his mate’s screams made him hang on to reality.

“DADDY! Don’t hurt him.” His mate’s soft but slight hoarse voice resonated in the room, making his heartbeat harder and his bear work harder on healing him so that they could go back to their mate’s side.

Dima felt overwhelmingly proud of his mate. She didn’t even know his name yet, but she still defended him from the wizard. She was very courageous, in his opinion. His bear grunted his approval as well and went back to focusing on healing him.

“AND WHY SHOULDN’T I? HE WAS NAKED ON TOP OF YOU. FUCKING NAKED! HE COULD HAVE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF YOU, AND YOU WOULDN’T EVEN BE ABLE TO CALL OUT FOR HELP.” For a moment, Dima had forgotten all about his nakedness. He was just so lost in his mate’s eyes that he had all but forgotten about that small detail. He blushed hard when he felt all the eyes in the room on him, but his bear wasn’t affected at all. He finished healing the wound provoked by the wizard and growled loudly at the said man. Dima held him back, but the bear had already done enough.

“He is her mate, papa. I heard him say so before I screamed.” The curly-haired girl spoke, regaining her color from the scare he unintentionally had given her.

“Mate or not, WHY IN THE GODESS NAME WERE YOU NAKED ON TOP OF MY DAUGHTER!” The man yelled at him. His bear didn’t like his... soon-to-be father-in-law’s tone and showed himself again growling loudly and making Dima’s eyes flash.

“That was not my fault, sir,” Dima said calmly and sat up, using the floor-length curtain beside him to cover his dick.

“OH YEAH, AND HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN IT THEN, SHIFTER?!” His mate’s father angrily yelled at him again and started losing control of his powers, setting himself on fire. Dima hissed at the sight and took a deep breath, trying to ignore it.

I pray to the goddesses that he does not set me on fire. Dima silently wished and heard a snicker come from the unknown woman that came in with the man.

’Damn it, this not knowing anyone’s names thing is really getting to me.’Dima once again internally complained and took a deep breath to calm him and his bear enough to be able to explain his nakedness.

‘Thank you very much, mother. I wouldn’t have been able to cause a better impression on my mate and her family even if I tried.’ Dima mumbled out loud without noticing.

“What does your mother has to do with this, shifter?” The man asked once more.

“First of all, my name is Dima. And this is all my mother’s fault. She dragged me from my cave while I was in my bear form and only let go of my ear when we were standing in the middle of her living room. She also made some spell that created a vortex which spat me out on your daughter’s bed, who, by the way, is my mate.” The laughter from the women inside the room made him stop, especially his mate’s weak laughter. She was simply so cute.

“I can’t imagine anyone being able to drag a bear by an ear!” The curly-haired girl guffawed.

He frankly needed to find out their names.

“May I ask for your names and for some clothes, please?” Dima humbly questioned and lowered his head.

“Angus, please leave the man alone and go get him some of your clothes. He already had a bloodied palm, and you still had to electrocute him.” The third woman, probably Mr. Angus’s wife, ordered the tall greying man and turned to face Dima.

“Hello Dima, I am Zainab. Oksana’s mother and Angus’s wife. Oksana is your mate, and this girl giggling beside me is my daughter Jamila.” Oksana, what a beautiful name my mate has!

Jamila snickered loudly, and Oksana’s face turned redder than it already was before Zainab elbowed her.

“Stop using your powers to read his mind,” Zainab ordered sharply and then turned to face him again. “I’m sorry for my daughter. May I ask why your mother made a spell to send you here?” She asked and grabbed a blanket from the foot of his mate’s bed. Dima wanted to protest and make her put the blanket back on Oksana’s bed, but if he did, the curtain would fall and uncover his male bits, which he was sure his mate would not like to see while sick, nor share with her sister and mother.

“I’ve been depressed due to not finding my mate.” He mumbled, ashamed of admitting his weakness in front of my Oksana. He dared sneak a glance at her face, and Oksana looked very sad, almost pained. He didn’t want his mate to feel like that. His only want and desire at that moment were to reach out to her and hug her until she was feeling better again. Maybe soon, he would be able to do it.

“AWWE! I want a shifter mate too!” Jamila exclaimed and sat down by her sister’s side. Jamila looked Dima in the eyes and whispered a spell.

‘I’m so tired of witches and wizards today...’ He thought to himself and felt his bear grunt in agreement.

Anyway, Jamila whispered a spell and then started whispering things in Oksana’s ear, but Dima couldn’t hear what it was. That was probably why she cast a spell...

“Here, Dima. Cover yourself up.” Zainab handed him the blanket, and Dima did as she told him. Carefully, he stood up and wrapped his mate’s blanket around his waist.

“How old are you, Dima?” Zainab asked him. Dima finished fixing the blanket around his hips and mumbled, “Thirty-five.”, Before he lifted his gaze towards his mate.

‘I hope she doesn’t think I’m too old.’ His bear growled at him for being so pessimistic and clawed at Dima’s mind as if slapping him upside the head and provoking Dima a headache.

“Your depression is understandable. Don’t shifters usually find their mates when they reach the age of eighteen?” His mate’s mother asked him.

“Yes, ma’am,” Dima answered and lifted his gaze to Zaimab’s green eyes. Zainab’s eyes widened and she took a step back, catching Oksana’s and Jamila’s attention.

“Vania,” Zainab mumbled his mother’s name. “You, are Vania’s son.”

“Yes, ma’am.” It wasn’t a question but he still answered. Curiosity started eating away at him and Dima knew by the emotions both Jamila and Oksana were projecting that they too were confused.

“How is that old witch doing? I haven’t seen her in decades!” Oh, good another one of his mom’s crazy friends, at least this one won’t have to try to hook him up with her daughters or nieces since he was already Oksans’s mate.

“Really? They did that to you too? I’m so relieved that it wasn’t just to me!” Jamila suddenly exclaimed.

“Jamila! Don’t be rude. Stop reading Dima’s mind.” Oksana’s angelic voice reprehended her. Dima’s name coming from her lips sounded so good that he almost melted on spot.

“It’s ok Oksana. If this situation had happened to me and I had the ability to read minds I would do the same as Jamila, as long as she stops doing it after you trust me, I’m ok with it.” Dima declared.

For his mate, he would do and support anything.
