Chapter 8
Chapter 8
“Lisa, you’re asking for trouble! How dare you criticize me?!” Leonard had never felt so humiliated. He narrowed his eyes and forcefully grabbed Lisa’s arm.
His firm grip on her arm caused her intense pain. Lisa felt like he was about to break her arm.
“Leonard, let me go!” Lisa twisted her arm violently but could not break free.
“I’m warning you! Be more polite to me next time,” Leonard warned viciously, taking advantage of his tall stature. “Otherwise, there’ll be consequences!”
Lisa had never been one to endure suffering. She was like a firecracker. Since she could not break free, she bit down on Leonard’s other arm.
Leonard groaned in pain and forcefully pushed Lisa away. He was in pain from Lisa’s bite, but she still refused to let go. Instead, she clamped on.
“Okay! I’ll let you go.” Leonard let go of her arm first.
Lisa unclenched her jaw and stepped back two feet, regarding him with caution.
“Do you think you’re a dog?” Leonard tore open his sleeve.
Lisa bit down so hard that she broke the skin and drew blood.
“You started it.” She rubbed her arm and continued, “I read online that if domestic violence happens once, it’ll happen again. The only solution is to resist the first time, so I’ll do it again if you mistreat me.”
“Domestic violence?” Leonard could not believe his ears.
“You grabbed my arm so hard that it turned blue. If that isn’t domestic violence, then what is?” Lisa glared at him with contempt.
‘Damn this woman!’
He questioned whether he could spend another day married to Lisa. On the other hand, he feared having a heart attack at a young age.
“Leave! You’re in my room! Get out!”
“Don’t take it too far. We agreed to work together, but your behavior violates our agreement,” Lisa accused.
“If you want to cooperate, show me some sincerity and be respectful to me.” Leonard kicked her pink suitcase. “Take your things and get out of my room!”
Lisa frowned. “Then where should I sleep?”
“How should I know? Since my dad arranged this marriage, go to him.” Leonard waved and turned to take his clothes to the shower.
Lisa picked up her suitcase, turned, and dragged it out without a word. Although the massive house had other guest bedrooms, Lisa did not stay. Instead, she dragged her luggage out of the house.
The doorman stopped her and said, “Ms. Lisa, it’s so late. Where are you going with your things?”
Lisa looked sad as she said, “Leonard told me to leave. I have no choice but to go.”
The doorman could not bear to hear that and thought the delicate girl before him was too pitiful. Only a cold-hearted person like Leonard could do something like that. “Don’t go. I’ll inform Mr. David about this.”
“No, you’re just an employee here, and it’s not easy to earn a living. Don’t get in trouble with Leonard because of me.” Lisa stopped him, sighed, and helplessly dragged her luggage out the door.
Her actions hurt the doorman deeply. Lisa was aggrieved yet considered the doorman’s circumstances.
‘No, I must inform Mr. David.’
When the doorman arrived at the corridor, he encountered Michelle, whom Jeffrey had coaxed to go down to the ground floor. Michelle was thrilled when she heard Leonard had kicked Lisa out of the house. “David is in a meeting with Jeffrey. Lisa’s a minor issue, so don’t bother them.”
“But Ms. Lisa—”
Michelle coldly interrupted, “She’s simply unworthy of Leonard’s attention. Don’t provoke him because of her.”
The doorman wanted to continue but realized getting this job had been cumbersome, so he silently resumed his post at the door.
…
Meanwhile, Lisa waited by the road while dialing Leslie’s number. “Leslie, where are you? Leonard kicked me out, and I didn’t want to go home. Can I stay at your place tonight?”
“What? Why’d he kick you out in the middle of the night? Leonard is such an a*s for not caring about your safety!” Leslie was furious.
“It’s fine. I didn’t want to stay there anyway, so this gives me an excuse,” Lisa said nonchalantly.
Leslie felt highly concerned. After all, Lisa got married in her place. She quickly gave Lisa her address. “How are you going to get here? Do you need me to pick you up?”
“No, transportation here is convenient.” Lisa looked at the dark, empty road and intentionally lied to avoid troubling Leslie.
Lisa felt a tinge of melancholy after hanging up the phone. This place was where all the elite lived. There were no cabs, buses, or shared bicycles passing by. However, she finally called a cab after walking in the dark for a mile.
Ten minutes later, a white car pulled up in front of her.
Lisa could not wait long enough to open the trunk, so she stuffed her luggage in the passenger seat, saying, “Sir, you’re too slow. You promised to reach me in five minutes, but I’ve been waiting for you for ten.”
She turned to the driver after fastening her seat belt. The driver was a young man with a gray shirt and a neat tie. The dim street lamp outside the window illuminated his face, revealing groomed eyebrows and a gentle demeanor.
Lisa was a little dumbfounded and blurted out, “Are all cab drivers so handsome now?”
Afterward, she saw the car emblem on the steering wheel, which turned out to be a Maserati. She blinked and thought out loud, “Maseratis can be cabs now?”
The man chuckled lightly and said, “I can’t help it. I’m too poor, so I had no choice but to use the idle car at home as a cab.”
Lisa’s mouth gaped slightly in astonishment. “Since you’re so poor, does your family happen to have an idle luxury house for rent?”
“Yes.” The man pointed to the affluent neighborhood behind them and said, “There’s a house with a swimming pool and tennis court over there. Are you interested in renting it?”
Lisa forced a smile, feeling embarrassed. “You poor thing, what a breath of fresh air!”
The man placed his hand on the steering wheel. He was not in a hurry to drive and simply smiled at her without saying a word.
Lisa felt a little creeped out.
‘Is he a pervert? I heard some wealthy people can be perverts when roaming at night.’
Suddenly, her phone rang, and a loud voice came from the other end, “Where are you? I’m parked nearby but don’t see you.”
Lisa rolled down the window and glanced behind. Indeed, there was a white Honda parked behind the Maserati. Her mind froze for a brief moment.
