Chapter 22
Chapter 22
‘Why is Lisa worthy of an apology?’ Michelle wondered.
“Dad, please don’t be angry. Michelle will apologize.” Jeffrey sensed the tension and hastily pulled his wife toward Lisa. Michelle and I sincerely apologize to you, Lisa. It was our fault for misunderstanding you.
“It won’t happen again. As an older family member, I was too harsh in my tone. I’m sorry.” He hugged Michelle after finishing his statement and added, “Apologize to Lisa now!”

Michelle clenched her teeth, feeling humiliated and defiant. However, she knew her husband and father-in-law would not forgive her if she did not apologize to Lisa.
“I’m sorry, okay?” Finally, she mustered the courage to speak up, her eyes welling with tears. Then she pushed her husband away and ran out of the house. Helpless, Jeffrey went after his wife.
Melissa felt distressed when she witnessed her daughter-in-law’s outburst. “Aren’t we family? Was it necessary to push Michelle like that?”
Lisa was puzzled. “We’re family? Then why did you force a vulnerable woman like me into this situation? Even the police had to get involved.”
Melissa went silent.
Meanwhile, David’s head throbbed from the commotion. “Leonard, don’t you have a house elsewhere? Take Lisa there. She can’t be under the same roof as Michelle.”
Leonard was stunned.
‘If Lisa moves out and my parents can’t see her, how will they continue to hate her?’
“What? You want me to move in and live alone with him?” Lisa sounded surprised, “Mr. David, don’t you want us to get a divorce? I can’t get along with your family.”
Leonard was speechless. For the first time, he realized Lisa genuinely wanted a divorce and was even more determined than
before.
“Mr. David? I’m your father-in-law.” David wanted to hit her with his cane but suppressed his urges. “Leonard, take her luggage upstairs. I won’t allow you two to get divorced.”
Leonard reluctantly carried Lisa’s luggage upstairs.
Suddenly, Lisa caught up to him. “Don’t bother! I don’t want to live here anymore! I want to leave!”
Melissa palmed her chest as she felt distressed. “I might have a heart attack if I have to see her constantly. You should’ve agreed to their divorce earlier. Lisa looked insane. She was so uncivilized.”
David had calmed down considerably and replied, “If you put yourself in her shoes, it’s natural to be angry when treated like a thief for no reason.”
“Honey, are you okay?” Melissa touched her husband’s forehead and said, “You don’t seem to have a fever.”
“Do you think I’m like you? I’m the head of this family!” David retorted, “Firstly, we were wrong to believe Michelle’s one- sided words and label Lisa a thief. Secondly, we refused to apologize when the truth came out because of our pride. We also considered her beneath us.”
“That’s for sure. We’re elders. I’ve never apologized in my life except to your parents. Why should I apologize to my daughter- in-law at my age?” Melissa angrily retorted.
“I’m not happy about it either,” David scoffed. “Though I must admit, she’s got courage and fits well into our family. When she stood up to us, she was assertive yet calm. The other wealthy daughters I’ve encountered aren’t nearly as bold as her.
“Of course, since Leonard is in charge of the Parker Corporation, his wife can’t afford to be weak.”
“I still think Stephanie is far better than her,” Melissa grumbled, still holding a grudge against Lisa.

“Well, since she didn’t marry Leonard, it seems they weren’t meant to be,” David disagreed.
Liza cast a dark gaze at Leonard in the bedroom upstairs. “Why’d you bring my luggage up? You should’ve supported me earlier and asked your father to agree to our divorce. It just so happens your family despises me very much now.”
