Chapter 20 Elixir of Strength
As for the weight of ambergris Mr. Huber needed, he just said, "Well, give me 200 grams first. After all, it's too expensive. I can't get too much." "Okay."
Conrad clicked on the app and bought 200 grams of ambergris from it. Soon, a box appeared in his bag, where there placed the ambergris.
Conrad handed the box to Mr. Huber. As it was indeed a big deal, Mr. Huber opened the box to confirm the quality of ambergris.
Then he called his son to make him transfer 1,600,000 to Conrad's back account.
Soon, Conrad received the money and the deal was concluded.
Mr. Huber asked him to stay to discuss about purchasing some rare medical materials. Fortunately, Conrad noticed that all of them were in stock on the app. So he promised he could provide the materials he needed with top quality at any time when he got the call.
"Okay, let me note them down and you just get prepared. When I need them, you can just have them delivered." Mr. Huber wrote a list of medical materials on paper with Chinese brush pen.
Conrad took it and looked at it. He really appreciated the nice handwriting on this paper. He claimed that Mr. Huber was so good at calligraphy that he would definitely win the prize in a calligraphy competition. Upon hearing that, Mr. Huber was even more delighted. He asked Conrad to stay to visit his house.
When Conrad walked around the house, he suddenly noticed that there were a lot of ancient thread-bound books on the shelf, which were all wax-sealed.
One of them was named as Recipe for Exercise, which attracted his attention.
"Can I have a look?" Conrad asked.
"Of course, but most of the ancient prescriptions have gone." Mr. Huber said.
"Is it because of the damage of the environment?"
"Yes, the environmental damage is also a destruction of the traditional Chinese medicine." Mr. Huber sighed.
"Perhaps we can only recover those prescriptions when the technology is well-developed enough to reproduce all those ancient plants and animals."
Conrad opened the book. It was really hard for him to understand the meaning as it was written with ancient Chinese. Mr. Huber stood beside to explain the meaning for him. And he also told some medical stories about the ancient time.
'Elixir of Strength, one dose will be enough to make you more powerful among others; two will enable you to be the strongest man in the world; three will enable you with endless power; four will enable you to be the only unstoppable creature ever.' When seeing this prescription, Conrad couldn't help asking with surprise, "Mr. Huber, is it true about the magical effect as mentioned here?"
Mr. Huber explained, "The ancient doctor never told a lie. It would probably be true. But the real effect might be a bit exaggerated. But now no one knows if it works. Don't ever think about it. One of the key materials named Blood Grass has gone extinct. That was why there once were a lot of incredibly strong Hammer Warriors during Sui and Tang Dynasty. However, no strong warriors had ever appeared after that. And that was the key reason."
There was even a drafted picture about Blood Grass on this book. It was said that the Blood Grass would only bloom at night, whose stem featured with blood red color. And that was why it was named as the Blood Grass.
Seeing the magical effect of the Elixir of Strength, Conrad really had an urge to have a try. Being powerful and strong was the dream of all men. And it might enable him with incredible energy. Unfortunately, he seemed to have nothing to do about it if the Blood Grass went extinct.
'Hold on! Perhaps I can see if there is any Blood Grass on the Discount King app!' Conrad thought to himself and then started to browse on the app. He then typed in 'Blood Grass' on the plant section to search. However, he found nothing relative.
Conrad was a bit disappointed. But this was just a shopping app instead of a science museum. It was still of little possibility that he could got an extinct plant from it.
However, he suddenly noticed that there was a tip below, 'You may upload a relevant picture or sound record to search for the goods needed.'
"Oh, I can upload picture?" Conrad then took a picture of Blood Grass from the book and then uploaded on the app.
'Here may be the goods you want: Night Orchid with Red Root.'
Night Orchid (Produced by Gene Labs), Original Price: 68000, Discounted Price: 2!
Conrad indeed found a relative plant on the app and it was named as Night Orchid and it was mostly taken as ornamental flower only. It was said by the introduction list that Night Orchid, a kind of annual, had red stem and only bloomed at night. It seemed to exactly fit the description in the ancient book.
Though Conrad wasn't sure if it was the right one, he still bought one. But just after purchase, he noticed that it was then out of stock. That was to say there was only one Night Orchid sold. Soon, a pot of Night Orchid wrapped with plastic appeared in his bag.
"Mr. Huber, could you please have a look? I want to know if it's the Blood Grass." Conrad took it out from the bag.
"Impossible. The Blood Grass has gone extinct long ago." Mr. Huber shook his head, but he still took the plant and unwrap the plastic. He scrutinized it and his expression suddenly changed.
"What?!" Mr. Huber seemed to be quite delirious. He then took a magnifying glass and placed the Night Orchid on the table to observe it carefully.
"Where did you get this? It really looks like the Blood Grass!" Mr. Huber hurried to ask.
"This plant in called Night Orchid and it was produced in the lab. I am just planning to keep it at home for decoration. But I notice it looks quite similar with the Blood Grass shown on the book. So I took it out to show you." Conrad figured out excuse to explain.
It sounded pretty weird to have a plant in the bag, but Mr. Huber seemed to be totally attracted by this plant. So he didn't ask further.
Now he just wanted to figure out if it was the real Blood Grass!
