Chapter 69 by Ebony Woods
Evelyn POV
He didn’t stop, not until I had ridden out my climax. His eyes were on fire and I felt slightly embarrassed from letting my own desire get the better of me. I was losing my control when he was around. Especially now that he removed his hand and placed his fingers in his mouth.
I couldn’t breathe, he tasted me with a hunger to his eyes. “Reuben.” I pant out, shocked, still trying to regain a steady breathing.
“You taste fucking divine sweetheart.” He slowly pulls his fingers out of his mouth and places a soft kiss on my lips.
“I look forward to trying the real deal.” He rests his forehead against mine, taking in my breathing. Seemingly proud of the way he has affected me. My slowing heart beat that is only just releasing the tight pressure in my chest.
Then, he does something I didn’t expect. He pulls me up, sits behind me on the bed and places me into his lap.
At first I’m not sure what to do until he pushes my head back onto his chest and looks down at me, reading my reaction with a gentle smile.
“I’ve never done this before.” He says as he starts to stroke my hair.
“Your fingers say otherwise.” I curse internally at my own joke.
“Ha, no that I’ve done but not to a woman as captivating as you. No I mean, this…just be still, just sit and hold someone.” He wraps his arms tighter around me and I’m lost for words.
Where has this come from? The cocooning of his arms around me, seems to stamp out the flash of anger that had the ability to flare up at the mention of other females. I don’t like the idea of him being with anyone else but me. Even though I know it is true. I still don’t like it.
“Reuben, what’s going on with you. You got possessive at the party the other night, insisted on coming back here…”
“You don’t want me here?” Disappointment reaches his eyes.
“No of course not, that’s not what I’m getting at…
What are you getting at then Evelyn? I scold myself.
“If the mate bond is making you feel something that isn’t there..”
“You think I’m that easily controlled?” His face falls back into the charming arrogant smirk that he was now only using on me. “Just because we are mates doesn’t mean we should act upon it. At lot has happened between us.”
“I know it has and it’s my fault. But I want to prove to you the type of mate I can be. I didn’t know it back then but I do now. I wasn’t ready to marry, but I did selfishly to become alpha. To get rid of my father. I didn’t appreciate you then, but I do now.”
He seems sincere but something in the back of my mind was in protective mode, preventing me from being hurt again.
“Evelyn, I’m committed to showing you that I’ve changed, that I can be the mate to you and father to our children you want me to be.”
“I’m just worried you’ll make them fall in love with you and then leave.”
“Them?” He gives me a knowing look. Okay fine, me. I’m worried I will fall in love with him and he’ll leave.
“I’ve been thinking I can buy a plot of land in between our packs. Then combine the packs…”
“That will never work!” I cut him off, maybe to hastily.
“Why?”
“Reuben, I managed to get those packs on board because they wanted to leave the Red Stone alliance. I didn’t sugar coat what a monster you were…”
“A monster?” He quirks an eyebrow at me.
“At the time I thought you had murdered my parents. Perhaps Alpha Renard was right, if we combine packs, there’s no need for the Silver Moon alliance. It will just be redundant. Then someone might start an alliance against us, against Rex.” I was starting to spin from too many what ifs.
“You think that far ahead?” He chuckles.
“Evelyn, I’m guilty of propaganda against your alliance too. Even if we have two alliances, two packs but live together inbetween, I’ll make it work. I’ll make sure of it. Vicky abducted our son and killed your parents, I gave her a long leash…I am somewhat to blame.” He frowns, placing his nose into my hair and smelling my scent.
“She left you for dead Reuben, believe me when I see her again I’ll make her suffer.” That didn’t even sound like me, I said it with such conviction I knew it to be true.
“Listen to me Evelyn!” He pulls me back on the bed and lays over me, his hands cupping my face.
“You mustn’t do anything reckless. Promise me?”
“I’m an alpha, I can’t ever turn my back on violence against my pack. She needs to answer for her crimes.” “And she will once my trackers have found her.”
He must know we won’t agree on this. I was no longer his luna. I was an alpha in my own right. I had an army of warriors that would follow my command.
“Just…just be careful. If not for me, then for the kids.” He climbs off from on top of me and gently pulls me up.
“I’m going to take a shower. I’ll be down in a bit.”
I was on cloud nine. I had never felt like this before, and yet I wanted more. He had started a fire within me that was starting to burn bright. A thirst that only he could quench.
And I needed him to quench it. I was in two minds whether to join him in the shower, see how I could bring him the same pleasure he just brought me.
I smile as I walk down the stairs and I even check my reflection in the mirror. My cheeks were a flushed pink and added a cute colour to my glowing face. My eyes were shining a bright green that I hadn’t seen in a long time. I even wanted to dress slightly more provocative, tease him throughout the day. Steal his stare in meetings, across the dinner table. I was acting like a teenager in love!
I head to the kitchen to pour myself a glass of water. As much as my current flushed cheeks made me look more attractive, I was hot and needed to cool down.
I find Nate sitting at the kitchen table typing away on his laptop. I open the fridge door and grab a bottle of water. As I close the fridge door, I glance at Nate who is now watching me with a smirk.
“Alpha!” He nods his head to me, before looking back at his screen…. trying to hide his smile.
“Beta!” I quirk an eyebrow at him. Shit, did he hear my lustful moans. The water will do nothing for my flushed cheeks now. I could feel my entire face reddening and downed my water as I walked into my office.
I had fallen behind on my emails since the Blue Moon pack visit. I was still getting enquiries for new packs to join the alliance but I didn’t know what to do.
If the hospital facility is what they wanted maybe I should send Noah and Cassandra to the Red Stone pack to set up one there. Because no matter what, Rex and Elspeth are the heirs to both packs.
Really there isn’t two alliances anymore, there was only one again and I needed to think about their future. “Alpha?” Nate knocks on my open office door and takes a step in.
“Nate, what’s up?”
“Noah has asked if I can pop down to the hospital. Are you okay with that?”
“Sure, why wouldn’t I be?”
“Just checking. Can you let Alpha Reuben know where I’ve gone. I’ll be about an hour.”
Oh so now he decides to give us a free house.
“Of course!” I keep my voice an even tone.
I’ve now managed to check all my emails and flag the ones that I need to discuss further with Noah. I don’t know why but I had an urge to check the junk inbox, something I rarely did.
But there was an email unread. Donnie was on top of IT security and we hardly received junk mail.
It was from an unknown sender with a picture attached. It was sent this morning and Noah clearly hadn’t seen it yet. As I clicked on it my entire world collapsed.
It was a picture of Reuben with Natascha at the Blue Moon party. He was wearing the exact same clothes as she sat on his lap, grinding against him. He had his hands around her neck and on her ass. What was this? Why have I been sent this?
I can feel the tears forming in my eyes, threatening to cascade with the smallest of blinks.
I knew it, I knew I couldn’t trust him. All this time he’s been playing me to get close to the children, to undermine my alliance. My heart felt like it was four years ago again. It was being ripped out but this time stamped on for good measure.
“Evelyn?” His voice calls to me by the office door. I don’t respond at first, I can’t even look at him. “What’s wrong?” He plays the concerned mate very well, I sneer internally.
“Get out!” I growl, my wolf trying to talk sense into me, trying to make me see reason.
“What’s happened?”
“This…what the fuck is this?” I roar with unfiltered rage as I spin the computer screen around to show him the picture.
I felt used, disgusting. He had just pleasured me upstairs. Even in the night of the party he was kissing me in the garden.
Yet in the same night he was with her and then again in his office the next day. “No, no, it’s not real.” He rushes over to me, gripping my face in his hands.
“I knew it, I knew you’d do this to me… again!” I can’t hold them in anymore, my tears are free-falling and for once I don’t care. He needs to see exactly what he has done to me.
“I would never do that to you.”
“She’s there all over you in the picture Reuben. Then the next day she went into your office all tarted up. Stop lying to me!” I scream trying to push him off me.
“Don’t you doubt me Evelyn, you’re my wife.” He holds my wrists into his chest, trying to hold me still.
“I was your wife four years ago, but that meant shit all to you back then as well.”
The image of Vicky, of Natascha all over him, all over what should be mine enters my mind and I can’t un-see it. Not the picture or the flashbacks.
He’s still holding me as my body trembles with anger, sadness, heartache, desire to hurt someone like I’m hurting now.
“Just go, go back to the Red Stone pack. I’ll set up regular visits, you’ll still see them.” I whisper, exhausted.
“I’m not going anywhere, not until I prove that this is a fake picture. As for Ivo’s office…yes she did make a pass at me but I told her to get out immediately. You’re the one I want Evelyn. You’re the one I can’t be without.”
“Just leave me alone.” I sob, finally pushing him off me as his hold on me lessens. He moves to my keyboard and forwards the email onto his own account before turning back to me.
“I’ll prove it’s a fake and I’ll kill the motherfucker that has sent it!” He growls before storming out of my office leaving me to slowly fall to the floor and hug my legs.
I knew it, I knew he couldn’t be trusted. He doesn’t want me, not really. I’m just the person in the way of him claiming what he really wants…his heirs.
