Chapter Heading Out
I woke up on the couch to find Macy no longer sleeping next to me.
Ugh, we did she go off to now?
I heard soft steps upstairs then Luna and Macy walked down.
Wow, you went to sleep with her... Traitor.
Macy immediately ran and jumped on me, licking my face.
No amount of licking will make up for what you have done, dog.
Luna laughed, “Macy, let him sleep.”
I sat up, lightly pushing the dog off me, “I was already kind of awake but now I definitely am.”
She laughed again as Macy rubbed against her leg, “Well since you are up, we might as well start the day off with a good breakfast.”
I quickly jumped to my feet, “Great idea!”
I walked into the kitchen searching through the fridge and the cabinets, “Well we do have much but I think I can figure something out. Pancakes or waffles?”
Her eyes dimmed again, “Waffles!”
I grabbed the ingredients and the waffle iron. I mixed everything together and began pouring the batter onto the iron skillet. As soon as the batter hit the iron and the smell hit my nose, my head was hit with pressure. I gritted my teeth to try to stop the pain.
I was standing in front of a small coffee shop and began to walk in.
As soon as I opened the door, I was hit with the smell of coffee and warm waffles.
“Good morning! Take a seat anywhere you would like.”
I looked up...
The pain slowly went away.
I looked down at the waffle I was cooking to see it burnt and smoking.
Dang it! Stupid brain! You made me burn my waffle!
I heard Luna walk into the kitchen, “I thought I smelled burnt food.”
“Yeah I kind of got sidetracked.” I laughed.
She reached over to grab a paper towel and held it out to me, “Sidetracked huh?”
Ugh, another bloody nose!
I chuckled to myself, taking the towel and wiping the blood off.
Her eyes dimmed again, “Here let me take over. I am pretty sure I can make a better waffle than you.”
I laughed again, “Oh really?”
She playfully pushed me out of the kitchen, “Yup! Now out! I need to concentrate!”
I laughed again and made my way up to room.
We are going to leave today so I should get ready and pack up some stuff.
I walked into the bathroom, turning on the shower, then stepping in. I let the water run over me as I let my mind wonder.
Where are we even going to go? Where do you start your search for something so small in such a big city? How is she so optimistic for me to be able to find my dad’s work or at least him?
I finally stepped out of the shower and got dressed into jeans and a t-shirt. Walking out into my bedroom, I grabbed my backpack, beginning to pack up some clothes and a map I found in my bookshelf. I walked back downstairs with my bag and threw it at the bottom of the stairs.
I walked in the kitchen, seeing Luna playing with Macy by throwing pieces of waffle for her to catch, “You’re such a good girl Macy!”
I laughed, “If you keep feeding her those she’ll get fat.”
She laughed, “Well they are done. I also made more to take with us.”
She chucked a tin foil package of waffles at me and then motioned for me to sit, “Now hurry up! They will get cold.”
She set a plate down with three waffles stacked up and syrup dripped over them. She started cleaning up the dishes.
“Where is your plate at?”
She just chuckled, “I never really sit down and eat. I ate half of them just by standing here and cooking.”
She finished up the cleaning as I dug in.
Damn she was right! She did cook these better than I would have.
When she was done wiping down the counter she turned to me, “I am going to take a shower then we can get ready to leave.”
I swallowed the waffle in my mouth, “Okay. Feel free to take any clothes you want to wear.”
She smiled and left the kitchen to go upstairs.
I finished my plate and washed it. Macy was sitting on the ground staring at me.
“What?”
She nudged me with her head and whined.
This dog is bossy.
I looked down at her leg bandage that was dirt and had a few blood spots seeping through it.
We definitely need to change that.
I went into the hall closet and pulled out the first aid kit. Macy laid on the floor while I unwrapped her leg.
The wound looked swollen and was still bleeding a bit. I looked through the kit to find something to stop the bleeding, until I heard Luna’s voice behind me, “You might want to stitch that up. It would stop bleeding because it is too deep.”
Her hair was still wet and she had thrown on one of my Metallica t-shirts and some black pants.
At least I am assuming that from the design... still can’t read.
I laughed, “It’s funny how you think I know what I am doing.”
She pushed me to the side again, “Well then obviously this is a woman’s job.”
She looked through the kit to get string and a needle. She began to slowly stitch up the wound, making sure not to hurt Macy too much. She had a pretty good stitch done within a few minutes and packed everything up, after wrapping her leg in fresh gauze.
“How are you so good at these things?”
She laughed, “I am a girl. It is in my nature... well sewing is.”
Macy jumped up and rubbed against her leg and looked up to me.
I was still the one that saved you first. You weird dog.
She turned around throwing the kit at me, “Pack this up then we should get going.”
I laughed again, “Yes, ma’am.”
I quickly packed the rest of everything up in my bag and grabbed my keys, “I hope you like motorcycles because I am not going to walk the whole city.”
She smiled, “I have never been on one but it sounds fun.”
We made our way to the alley with Macy following close behind. Macy immediately jumped into the side car which I laughed at.
“I guess you are riding with me. She seems to have picked her spot.”
I threw my leg over and started it up.
Luna was hesitant at first but swung her leg over behind me.
“Hang on.”
We pulled out of the alley and began our journey into the city.
