Chapter A Boy, A Girl, and A Dog
I was sitting in Luna’s living room, “Come on Luna! We are going to be late.”
She came out of her bedroom in a long black sparkly gown, “Don’t worry I am coming. Do you think I will be able to ride a motorcycle in this?”
I laughed, “Hell no. But the President sent her motorcade for us.”
She smiled, slipping on some heels, “How do I look?”
“Horrible.”
She pushed me, “So mean.”
I smirked, “Yeah but you love me.”
She kissed my cheek, “I do. Now we are definitely going to late. Let’s get out of here.”
It has been a month since the bombs dropped on New York. The President has arranged a ceremony and a revealing of the monument we helped design.
Everything is different now.
Half of the population in New York didn’t survive. There is not much of a reliance on technology anymore. Luna’s coffee shop has been filled with business mostly because we are like celebrities of New York now. Luna has started a movement to bring back classical music and is even in an orchestra.
Everything is normal. Well kind of, we still have our insanely bright eyes and pale skin. Luna, being the superhero she is, has these weird ways of getting people to listen to her and take her advice. I have gotten this weird ability to be able to calm people’s emotions down too.
Like I said kind of normal.
We both got out the car and walked down a path.
The ceremony was set in Central Park the President was just beginning her speech when we walked to the side of the stage. The monument was behind her and was a big crystal orb on a stone stand. On the stand and the stone covering the ground was the names of everyone who passed away. The orb was filled with bright blue and green colors swirled together.
The President insisted that the colors of our eyes should be included into it.
A metal plate on the ground in front of the orb had writing explaining everything that happened a month ago.
The President began to speak, “Ladies and Gentlemen of New York, the nation, and the world. Today marks the one month anniversary of the horrid attack on New York City and we are here to honor those who saved us from it... On the last day of this tragedy I was standing with two heroes looking over the great city of New York. They were not full of dread or misery but filled with hope... When I spoke of how the city was in ruins, the girl said we could rebuild. When I thought of a way to remember those who have passed on, the boy created this beautiful monument. When we talked about saving the city, they both jumped up without question or hesitation to do it... One month ago, two teenagers woke up lost in a world with no one to talk to. They were alone... They helped who they could and started on a journey to save the city, even when the times were rough they carried on... One month ago, the citizens of New York forgot who they were and they forgot the memories of their family and friends. Those memories that we all cherish so close... Now a month later we have created a monument or as I like to call it a journal with the memories of those who have passed and what happened during those tragic weeks in New York... Ladies and Gentlemen, let this be your journal of memories to share with each other and future generations to come... Now, it is my pleasure to honor that boy and that girl who were alone only one month ago in this massive city. Let us show them they are not alone anymore... Ben Foster and Luna Sora.”
We both walked to the stage with thunderous applause. The President each hugged us and place a metal around our necks. Each had a beautiful jewel matching the monument. She then looked back out into the crowd, “Ladies and Gentlemen, Your heroes!”
The President spoke again, “I almost forgot... there is another hero to this story that hasn’t been recognized.”
I heard a bark and saw Macy running up on stage with a metal like ours tied around her neck. She instantly ran to Luna and glared at me. I glared right back at her, feeling absolutely weird having a stare down with a dog.
Hey, she acts like a human way more than a dog!
Everyone laughed filling more happiness and joy into the atmosphere of the park.
About twenty minutes later the sun was setting causing sunlight to shine through the monument. Green and blue shined over all the names carved into the stone.
Luna leaned against me with Macy at our feet. She looked at the orb and chuckled, “Who would have ever thought that a boy, a girl, and a dog could ever save a whole city.”
I wrapped my arms around her admiring the sun setting over the city, only showing the outlines of buildings, “Not just any girl though... my weird superhero.”
