The Imprisoned Princess

Chapter 25

Adelaide

Wade is suddenly ripped from my grasp. I jump, all the power I felt from him is gone, I feel normal, but like I’m missing a piece of me. I look over to what’s happened, Trey’s on top of his Alpha pummelling him. Wade throws Trey off and pins him to the floor “What are you doing!” He punches down breaking Trey’s nose. “She’s mine!” Trey roars flipping Wade again, they continue to wrestle for dominance.

I step forward intending to pull one of them away but a heavy hand lands on my shoulder. A calm voice comes from behind me, “Let them figure it out.” My father towering above me, his face calm and peaceful as it often is. “But, they’re going to hurt each other.” I struggle against his grasp, but his hand presses harder on my shoulder keeping me firmly in place, “Wade could stop it at any point. He’s the Alpha.” I look up to him, unsure he knows what I know.

“His father didn’t have Alpha voice, he couldn’t...” He has to understand Wade can’t stop Trey.

“Wade does, trust me,” he states confidently as he gives me shoulder what I’m sure is supposed to be a reassuring squeeze.

I give my father a hard stare, he’s got to realise Wade would have stopped it by now, I look over as Trey kicks Wade’s side, sending him sprawling into the grass. “Step in, please, you can stop them, you’re King!” I turn to plead to him. I don’t want them to do this, I don’t want them to fight, particularly over me. I’m not something to fight over, I’m not worth it. Father smiles, “My child, being a good King is knowing when to step in. And when to let someone work things out for themselves. This is one of those times.”

“They’re going to kill each other!” I scream as I duck from my father’s hand, running to the two men who are now bloody and growling at each other.

Wade’s straddling Trey, his chest rising and falling rapidly. “Wade! Get off him!” I place my hand on his bare shoulder, ignoring the feeling it gives. He ignores me, as he delivers a knockout blow to Trey, who falls limp. I retract my hand, taking a few steps back. Being out of his vicinity, my anger returns. “YOU’RE JUST LIKE YOUR FATHER!” I scream at him, Trey’s been punched enough by the Blackwood’s.

Wade turns, his eyes returning to green and his canines retracting. He blinks, looking hurt at my words. “I’m... I’m nothing like him.” He rises from Trey’s unconscious body and rounds on me.

“Yes, you are!”

“He attacked me!” a desperation in his voice almost makes me falter

“You didn’t have to beat him to a pulp!” Wade takes long strides towards me. I try to back up but his arms are around me before I can do anything else. “I’m sorry,” his scent has flooded me again but I’m angry. I pull from his grasp wanting to check on Trey. I need to know he’s OK. I look between Wade and Trey. Wade’s nose is still pouring with blood, his deep grassy eyes boring down to me. I look to Trey, his face already showing bruising, blood splattered over his face. His kind shining hazel eyes hidden by his eyelids. I tug against Wade again, my head’s spinning, his face going in and out of focus. I feel like I’m ripping my mind in two. I’m struggling away from Wade’s grasp. Then everything goes black.

Wade

I look into those golden orbs that are so full of conflict, she looks around me to my Beta. What did he think he was doing attacking me? I saw he had lost control, I could see in his eyes; his wolf was in control, not him. Nevertheless, his wolf should know better than attack his own Alpha!

“I’m sorry,” I say to her, knowing she likes him kills me, and wants me to kill him. She’s mine and I can make her happy, I’ll be anything and everything she needs me to be. I’ll move my pack to unclaimed territory if I have to. She pulls from me, but it’s the smallest of movement, I reach my hand up to her back, rubbing circles trying to calm her.

I see her eyes flick up to mine then they roll into the back of her head. I act quickly and catch her before she falls, lifting her under her legs. Cradling her beautiful form into my chest. I look over to King Xander, he rests a reassuring hand on my shoulder.

“She’s fighting her instincts son. She needs time, take her to her room. I’ll take your Beta to our infirmary, he’ll be well looked after,” I nod, King Xander places my shirt on my shoulder so I begin carrying my mate back to her palatial home. The white stone illuminating in the sun, the balconies adorning every floor, it’s so grand... but what would anyone expect? They’re royalty. The towers ending in grey cone roofs stretching up to the sky, I know there’s windows in those roofs but I can’t see them from my position.

I clutch Adelaide close to my chest, her warmth calming me as I enter the arched wooden doorway. When I think my home is grand, pales in comparison to the King’s home, gold gilds the walls in beautiful patterns. The white stone staircase curves into two different directions. I carefully make my way up, before I realise... I have no idea where her bedroom is.
