Chapter 20
When I woke the next morning, I was alone and my head was spinning with the events of the night at my old Pack House. I had been repressing all that had occurred until that point. The Pound officer who had burst into the room had said he did not take orders from him. That he was with the so-called Prophet. And then he had said that Reid would be interested to know that his daughter was still alive. Only I knew now I was not his daughter. I wondered if he knew? I had not gotten around to telling Elijah any of this as we were busy making up. I sighed. I was annoyed with myself. I knew Elijah would soon want to mate me. It was just a lot for me to accept, I guess. As I lay there, I realized I wanted to Mate him. Yet something was holding me back. I wished I knew what it was. I had told myself that I felt I would feel unable to start my life here at the Manor with Elijah unless I had answers. He had been right. I had come back with more questions then I had had before. The fact that my mother had told me that I was half witch, and never thought to tell me sooner, still infuriated me. How could she have kept this from me? There really was no reason to, was there? Reid would have found me sooner or later. And if what my mother had told me was true, what did Reid want with me? I was half witch, half wolf. Who was my father if it was not Reid?My head was still spinning with thoughts and questions that I jumped when my bedroom door opened. Elijah walked in, a tray in his hands. He smiled when he saw me awake and set the tray down on the bed next to me. “I thought you might be hungry.” he said, lifting the lid to reveal a packed plate with eggs, bacon, pancakes, fruit and toast. There was a large glass of orange juice as well. I raised my eyebrows at him. “I know you didn’t bring this all up here for me?” I asked him. Elijah smiled at me. “You need to put on some weight,” he reminded me. I scoffed at him. “You do know that girls would normally slap you for that, right?” I asked him. He laughed at me. “Well, I am the King and no one tells me what to do!” he replied. His face became more serious. “How are you feeling today?” he asked me. I shrugged. “I feel fine,” I told him. “I was hoping to go to the training grounds with Amilia today,“I told him. It was not a lie. I really wanted to see Amilia. It had not been fair that Elijah had tried to punish her the way he did. Amilia was my only friend here. Sure there was Megan, Lilly and Tay, however they were always so busy with Pack matters I hardly ever saw them. Elijah sighed when I mentioned his sister. “You said you forgave her!” I reminded him. Elijah scoffed at me. “I said I would pardon her for her... mistake, however I never said anything about forgiving her,” he told me. I reached out and picked a grape from the tray and popped it into his mouth. I shook my head. “Elijah, she is your only sister! And I am asking you to forgive her!” I pleaded with him. Then I pushed a little more. “She brought me here, didn’t she? She is the only friend I have right now!”Elijah shook a finger at me. “You are the devil, woman!” he chided me. I smiled and knew I had won this one. “And one more thing?” I asked him, leaning on him a little. Elijah chewed another grape, peering down at me, his face wary. “You are not getting out of training, Faye!” he told me. “You need to become strong again. Like you said, you want to be able to defend yourself, right?” he asked me. I rolled my eyes. I should have known he would use that against me. “How about tomorrow?” I asked him, hoping he would go for it. However the look on his face told me he would not give in on this one so I leaned away from him and hopped up out of bed. “Where are you going?” he asked me as I walked to my dresser. I pulled my training gear out and waved to the bathroom. “To get ready. I am sure you have someone coming to get me and take me to the training ground here soon,” I said, my tone sour. Elijah laughed at me and nodded. “In fact I do. Collin was supposed to be here but he seems to be running late, so I will have Amilia do it,” he said with a shrug. I perked up at this. “Really?” He nodded. “Yes. And just so you know, I will not be here when you get back around noon,” he told me. I walked back out to him, toothbrush in hand.“Where are you going now?” I asked him, my upbeat attitude gone as quickly as it had come. Elijah sighed. “To settle Beta Jackson’s Pack and choose the new Beta. His Pack is running around like scared little children,” he said and rolled his eyes. “Most of them are grown. They should really know better.”I hesitated. “Should I go with you?” I asked him, hoping he would say yes. Elijah regarded me for a moment. “Not this time. It would be bad if I came across Beta Jackson’s Mate and she decided to rip your face off. She had quite the temper,” he said. I gulped. “She does not scare me,” I lied. Elijah laughed at me and walked over to me, wrapping his arms around me once he reached me. “Oh I know,” he said and smiled. “However, I did not want to have to rip her face off in return for bringing you harm, Faye,” he said. I sighed. The look on his face was off. Like he was trying to hide something from me. Yet again, I could be reading too much into things. He was going to settle a power dispute. Nothing more. “I do not like that you are going somewhere where someone could hurt you,” I told him. Elijah laughed for a moment as he pulled his t-shirt off. “She will not touch me. No one will. And while I am there, I will be looking into finding someone who can help you with your Magic.”I pressed a finger to my lips. “Shh!” I hissed at him, looking at the closed bedroom door. “What?” Elijah demanded as I walked closer to him. “I don’t need anyone knowing what I told you!” I whispered. Elijah looked around for a moment. “We are alone, Why are you whispering?” he asked me in a low voice. I sighed. I should have known I should not have said anything to him about my power. I understood why he would have no problems with it. I was his Mate. I was perfect for him in every way. Or at least he thought so. However I was still worried about what the rest of the Tribe you think and say about me. I was already fully linked into the Pack since Elijah had Marked me. “You may be alright with who and what I am, but what if the rest of the Tribe is not?” I hissed at him. “They could want me out!”Elijah laughed at me. “They will never want you out, Faye. You are my Queen!” He reminded me. I rolled my eyes at him and he growled at me. “My unmated Queen. Whom I would very much like to Mate before I leave,” he said as he walked forward to me, dropping his shirt to the marble floor. Before I could say anything, Elijah had me in his arms and his lips were on mine. He crushed me to his chest in his broad, strong arms. His fingers pushed the straps of my night dress to the side and he traced small patterns on my skin. I could feel my heart beating away in my chest. It felt like it would crack from my body any second. “My beautiful, unmated Queen,” he mumbled against my skin. “I wish I could just stay here and spend the day with you. Make you mine in every way!”I felt myself blush as my stomach turned into pleasant knots. “Do you?” I asked him. Every time he touched me, I found that I did not want him to stop. I did not want anything to stop us from what could happen if we Mated. If we Mated, I would be his forever. I was Marked. I was already his, however our bond was not complete. Elijah leaned away and looked at me. “I will always want you. Always,” he sighed.I smiled and reached up for him. Elijah bent his head and pressed his lips to mine. Sometimes I forgot how tall he was- or how short I was. I laughed at him a little and kneeled on the end of the bed from him so he did not have to bend as far. I reached for him again, kissing him, my mind almost going numb with the pleasure. “You are making it very hard for me, right now, Faye,” he warned me. I really should have stopped then. However, hearing him say this made me feel.. powerful. It was nice to know that I had this effect on him. That I could make him want me with a few simple touches and a few well placed kisses. I felt his hands on my hips; at first they were relaxed, gentle. Then, before I knew it, they were hard, pressing into my skin. Elijah pressed forward and we both fell into bed, landing on the soft silk sheets. Elijah straddled me, his eyes locked on my face. His eyes were the darkest green I had ever seen them. Slowly, he reached down and pushed my camisole up, stopping just under my breast, his thumb gliding just under my breast. I closed my eyes, trying to breathe at a normal rate. I wanted this. I did. yet there was always something stopping us. We were always getting interrupted by someone. When I opened my eyes again, Elijah was bending his head down to my stomach to press his lips to my skin. He traced a finger around my belly with a smile on his face. “I will put a child in you someday,” he told me. I smiled. I had never thought of myself as a mother before. I had never thought if I ever even wanted a child. Now, the thought of having a child, with Elijah, filled me with joy. I could see a small child with his hair and my eyes. So many images came to mind. I reached down and touched the top of his head as his lips pressed to the skin of my stomach. I knew I was not ready to be a father, just like I was not ready to be a mother. “Yes, someday,” I agreed. “However, I need to learn how to be Queen before I am a mother.”Elijah laughed at me as leaned up and towered over me. I could not help myself. I reached up and touched his bare chest, loving the feel of his skin under my fingertips. Elijah sighed and closed his eyes. The feel of his skin under my fingers was like fine velvet. I leaned into him, inhaling deeply, sliding my face across his chest. “You have no idea how good this feels,” he sighed as he leaned into me. I smiled as our skin touched. His body was like a raging fire. It warmed me and filled me with a feeling of security. I knew that a year ago, once I had been delivered to the Pound, the thought of physical contact with another person would have terrified me. Elijah had fixed that. He gave me the time I needed to get used to his touch. I was wanting him more and more every day. I knew I would give into him at some point. Elijah was running his nose across my collar bone, back and forth, inhaling deeply as he went. His hands had not moved, his thumb still resting on the curve of my breast. I shivered as he pressed his lips to the Mark on my neck. “What will you do while I am gone?” he asked me, leaning away, however, never removing his hand from my chest, his hand resting where it had been and his finger sliding back and forth across my bare skin. Then he moved, his face suddenly casual. I felt my face fall a little as he pulled away from me. I knew he was trying to be a gentleman, giving me the space he thought I needed. Perhaps I still needed time? I was not sure if that was even true anymore. All I knew was that I needed him. I wanted him. That gave me an idea. I smiled to myself and he laughed at me. “How long will you be gone?” I asked him. Elijah raised an eyebrow. “A day or two. Why?” he asked me. I shake my head. I was going to do this. I wanted to now. And I knew just how to make him understand that. “You will know once you get back,” I said as I hopped out of bed. Elijah grabbed a pillow and placed it in his lap as I turned to face him. I laughed at him. “I want to know now!” he said, watching me as I walked back to the bathroom. I skipped back into the bedroom, fully dressed, my hair up in a ponytail and gym shoes on and laced. “Nah,” I teased him, grabbing my gym bag and headed for the door. “Make sure you come see me in the gym before you leave please!” I reminded him and closed the bedroom door behind me. I smiled as soon as I saw Amilia. “Wow!” she said once she saw me. I raised an eyebrow at her. “What?” I demanded. “Nothing, I just did not think I was gonna see you so soon! I figured since you and Elijah have a room together now, you two would be... you know... busy,” she said. I shake my head. “We haven’t mated,” I admitted to her. “But I want to change that. When he comes back. No one can oppose him once we are mated,” I said.Amilia sighed and crossed her arms at me. “Are you still thinking about that? You know he won;t let you Mate if that is the only reason you are doing it. No one is going to oppose him!” she reminded me. I shake my head as we set off down the hallways. “That may be but I am still worried about Orias. How is he called The Prophet? He was never a religious man, that I can remember,” I said. I sighed. The man I had called father all my life, turned out not to be my father. how was I even supposed to feel about that? How did one even understand, warp their head around that kind of news. I felt like my life was becoming something you would see in the movies. “I doubt you ever really knew him,” she answered. I sighed. “Or my mother,” I agreed. Amilia shook her head. “You may not know the whole story, Faye. There could be a good reason she never told you. If Orias is as dangerous as everyone says, that may be why she never told you,” she reasoned. I sighed. I knew there had to be an explanation for everything, yet I was failing to see anything. “I just do not understand what he wants from me. He is not even my father,” I said. Before Amilia could answer me, she stopped, her face going blank, her eyes turning completely black. She gasped for air a few times, asif she were in pain. I had seen her do this before so I knew she was seeing something I could not. Amilia blinked a few times, her eyes going back to normal, her breathing becoming even and steady once more.
“What did you see?” I asked her. Amilia shook her head and looked at me. “I am not sure. I saw... I am not sure what it was I saw,” she said, her eyes becoming unfocused once more. I did not need the Tribe’s link to know she was talking to someone in her mine. I sighed. It always seemed that the rest of the Tribe was able to block me out whenever they wanted. “Amilia,” I said, grabbing her hand and pulling her to a stop beside me. She turned to face me, her face wairy, as if she knew what I was going to see. “Elijah does not want me to tell you,” she said before I could ask her what she had seen. I grumbled. “He should not be keeping things from me!” I said, crossing my arms. Amilia sighed. “I agree, however I am still in hot water with Elijah and my brother does not forgive lightly when his Mate’s life is threatened. He would like to deal with the threat himself. That is why he is leaving for New York,” she said. I turn back to look at her. “He told me he was leaving to settle a new Beta for the New York Tribe because of Beta Jackson’s death!” I said. Amilia sighed and shook her head. “And who do you think put the idea in his head to come here?” she asked me. I felt my heart drop. “Reid” I hissed. I did not wait for her to answer. I turned and ran back the way we had come. Why was he still keeping things from me? What else didn’t I know? Would he ever trust me enough to tell me these things? I knew Amilia was following me. I could feel and smell her right behind me. “Faye, please, let’s just go to the gym” she pleaded. I shook my head and walked faster. “No!” I almost shouted at her. “I want to know what the hell is going on!” Once we reached Elijah’s office, I pushed the doors open, not bothering to knock. Elijah was holding his phone to his ear as he placed some files and papers into his briefcase. He looked up when I burst through the doors. His face went immediately sour once he saw Amilia.
“You just could not help yourself, could you?” he spit at her. I glared up at him, crossing my arms over my chest once I reached his desk. “Do not take this one out on her, Elijah. This one is on you!” I snapped at him. He looked down at me in disbelief. “Me?” he demanded. “What the hell did I do?”Amilia groaned and shook her head. “You said you were leaving to New York to settle the conflict of the Beta Tribe there!” I said, my voice coming out louder than I intended. Elijah glowered at his sister before he turned to face me. “I am,” he said. I shake my head. “And the fact that Reid is tied to Jackson’s presents here has nothing to do with you leaving so suddenly for New York?“I demanded. Elijah’s jaw tightened and he sighed. “Of course it does,” he admitted. “However this has nothing to do with you. That is why I didn’t say anything to you about the matter, Faye,” he said.I shake my head. “How long is it gonna take for us to be honest with each other, Elijah?” I asked him. Elijah finally looked up at me, his eyes locked on mine. Normally, this would have made me weak in the knees, it would have made me want to throw myself at him. However, right now, I was too angry. I had never thought I could ever be this angry with him. I had never thought it would be possible for me to be this angry with him. He didn’t lie to me. Yet he failed to tell me the truth. “If Amilia had kept her trap shut, I would have told you in due time,” he said, throwing his sister a glare. I shake my head again, disgusted with how he was acting. “Stop blaming her! At least she tells me what is going on and at least she tells me the truth!” I stare at him, watching his face going from mad to outraged. “Even when she was ordered by her King not to say anything to you?” he demanded, his voice raising to a shout. I rolled my eyes. “Please!” I said, waving a hand at him. “It should have been you to tell me that you were going there because you think Orais was in New York!” Elijah shook his head. “Not a chance in hell. You are to stay here where you are safe!” he said, slamming his briefcase closed. “Reid is dangerous!”I nodded. “Yes. I am gathering that. However, I can be dangerous too, Elijah! Remember what I am!” I said. He was still not listening to me. He just shook his head and headed for the door. “Elijah!” Amilia pressed. He turned to face her. “I will deal with you upon my return!” he said and wrenched the door open. “Guard!” he yelled into the hall. It was Colin who appeared in the doorway. “Yes, your Grace?”Elijah turned to face me and his sister. “Take Amilia to the Cell below. Make sure she stays there until I return. As for my Mate, she is not to leave this Manor or go near my sister until I say otherwise-”Amilia gasped. “You can’t do that!”Elijah turned to face her as Collin grabbed her arms. “I am the King,” he reminded her and then turned to face me. “I can do as I please. I can do as I please if it keeps the people I love safe!”Then it all clicked together. “You are going to kill Reid!” I gasped. Amilia went rigid and stiff in Collin’s arms as soon as I spoke. She fell to the floor and convulsed in seizure like spasms. “She is in a vision!” Elijah sighed. “Once she come out of it, take her below-”Amilia’s drawn out and high pitched scream filled the room and her convulsions stopped. “What did you see?” Collin demanded. Amilia looked up at her brother. “You need to take her with you!” she warned him. “Something is going to happen. Something is coming here, a darkness we have never seen before. And Reid is behind it all!” she warned him. Elijah shook his head. “Reid is in New York. We have proof of that, Amilia!” he said and turned back to me. Elijah leaned down and pressed his lips to the top of my head. “I will be back in two days,” he said. I shake my head, grabbing onto his arms, making him face me. “Please. Either stay or take me with you!” I pleaded. Elijah sighed and pressed his lips to mine for just a second.“You will soon learn that you can not always rely on my sister and her... unique power. All is not always the way she sees it. She has been wrong before!” He reminded me. “But-” I began but he placed a finger to my lips. “You are and always will be safe here. Collin will see to that. I will be back before you know it. I will make you safe once more,” he promised me. Then he turned and walked away, leaving my arms and my heart aching for him.
