The Heart Left Behind

Chapter 6

Chapter 6 Xavier let out a big yawn.

Jonas, stop crying.

Daddys clearly not going through with the divorce.

Lets just go to sleep.

Im so tired.

With the house staff gone, I bathed the kids and dried their hair before tucking them into bed.

Jonas kept clutching my hand as he lay in bed, terrified that Id abandon him in the next instant.

His pitiful expression tugged at my heart.

Wrapping my hand around his, I reassured him gently, Sleep, Jonas.

Im right hereI wont leave you alone.

Relief finally crossed Jonas face, and he closed his eyes.

Both he and Xavier mustve been worn out from spending the entire day outside, so they both fell asleep quickly.

I exited their room once they were sound asleep, only to run into Yvonne, who had just finished washing up.

Ignoring her, I walked past her toward the guest room.

Since we were getting divorced, it was pointless to share a bed anymore.

I didnt want to look at her and be reminded of how she had betrayed our marriage.

Cole! Yvonne suddenly yelled, blocking my way in the next instant.

She rubbed her forehead in frustration and said helplessly, Youve been making a fuss all evening.

Havent you had enough? Ive no idea what youre so upset about.

Is it just because I took the kids out with Jared? If you want to go out, Ill book a three-day vacation for the four of us later.

You can pick any destination you want.

Think of it as making up for missing our anniversary.

Is that good enough? Yvonne never admitted that she was wrong.

Even when offering to make amends, she sounded condescending.

She completely missed the point.

What I cared about wasnt their outingit was their blatant display of deceit and betrayal! But of course, I never mattered to her.

She naturally wouldnt think from my perspective or care about my feelings.

At this point, I might as well lay everything out.

I couldnt keep swallowing my grievances in silence.

I whisked out my phone and clicked on the trending news.

The hashtag #LangleyCEOKissingHubby was still among the top three trending topics and had caused quite a buzz.

Netizens praised how perfect the couple was, completely unaware that the man wasnt me.

I shoved the video in Yvonnes face and questioned, You were kissing another man for a full minute on the street.

What else do you have to say? When Yvonne gave birth at the hospital years ago, someone photographed her.

That was how the world learned that the celebrated businesswoman, Yvonne Langley, was married and even had kids.

Speculation ran wild, and it even trended online.

Yvonne, however, didnt respond.

Instead, she quickly paid someone to take down the trending news.

I had gone to the hospital to pick her and the babies up, and my back was also captured in the photo.

But the public never knew that we were married.

Yet Yvonne had now allowed the news of her and Jared to trend for hours.

She did nothing about it at all.

Her expression shifted when she saw the video.

Returning the phone to me, she said nonchalantly, The media just loves to exaggerate things.

Dont worry about the news.

No one will care about it once time passes.

No matter what they say, it wont affect your position as my husband.

I glowered at her, so furious that I barked out a laugh.

A dull ache bloomed in my chest.

Back when I was photographed, her reaction was entirely different.

She had even blamed me for being careless, worried that our relationship would be exposed.

She sounded as if we were having an affair when, in fact, we were legally married.

Her relationship with Jared, though, was scandalous.

But now, she wasnt even in a hurry to remove the trending newsshe was letting it fester.
