Chapter 30

TheAlpha Within
Dante
I saw it, I'm almost certain. but I have to test my theory. Watching my daughter take out an entire pack, has got to be the most horrifying scene I've ever seen.
Destiny killed Bianca like it was nothing and that piece of shit Steven. He's lucky he's already dead. They deserved it, but did their entire pack? They were good people like Michelangelo and the others she had helped escaped, right? She must have thought of that.
No matter, I see the bloodlust, the rage, and I thought I saw the untamed beast within. "Fight me,” I ordered Destiny.
However, she just brushed past me without even a glimpse. Alright then. Plan B. "Your mother loved me, but I was ashamed to say we were more than just an alpha and a witch," I begin to recite just as she's about to open the door and she grips the handle, but still said nothing.
"I needed a legacy, a pure heir—that bears the mark just like I have. Your grandfather, his father, and like the rest of the DeLuca bloodline and your mother...Well, she was a witch for fuck sakes and not a strong one I might add."I continued.
"Shut your fucking mouth," Destiny turns and sneers. Okay, now we're getting somewhere.
“Why? It's the truth," I taunt her. "I needed strong heirs and your mother was never gonna cut it," I continued. Maureen forgive me for dragging your name in the mud, but you said she'll have to trust me to help her with her primal side.
"How fucking dare you!" Destiny runs at me full speed ahead, and I pretend to charge right back at her. We clash together mid-air and she delivers a stunning, yet powerful right hook, busting my lip open. I lick the blood smirking.
“Dad, what are you doing!” The boys say together.
“Trust me, boys, we won't hurt each other,” I reassured them, cutting off our mind link. "That's all you got, pup," I taunt her and she punches me, but I don't fight back.
Tackling me to the ground, Destiny straddles me, punching, and punching. Her punches are fierce. Fuck, It hurts. But she needs this, after all, I have to make this right.
"Why didn't you look for her!? Why didn't you mark her!? Did you just give up, believing she died!? You're the fucking alpha! You couldn't sense something didn't add up," Destiny screams at me and I just lay there, taking it all.
"Alpha!" A warrior screams through the pack link.
"Do not interfere," I inform them.
Destiny's hands are bleeding profoundly, but she’s yet to ease up on her blows. The angrier she gets, the more her eyes blazes, even her magical powers are getting out of control too. Things around us begin to levitate.
"Get everyone inside to the bunker," I order, mind linking, Jackson.
"What about you, Alpha?" his worried voice fills my head.
"Don't worry about me," I reassured him.
Destiny was about to hit me once again and this time, I grabbed ahold of her wrist. Using my speed, I flip us up and I rotate our bodies.
Throwing her in the air. She levitates mid-air so beautifully, I thought she was flying—landing gracefully on her feet—that's when I see her wolf. Well, more ghost-like, almost like a clock.
Destiny looks up at me smirking and growl, but I know she's not noticing the changes. She's too busy trying to kill me. I smirk right back. That's it pup. She starts to run at me and I charge head-on.
We clash, colliding together in mid-air. By that time, I had shifted in my silver-white wolf already.
I growl and she growls back. Walking slowly and confidently, stalking her like she's my prey, I growl again—warning her to stand down. To the eyes, this seems like an alpha versus alpha, but no. This was a father and his pup.
“Come here, you fucker!” Destiny hollered, her voice more animal than human.
With a loud malicious and almost feral, growl. I take my stance. Head held high and I howled a dominating and furious roar, one that shakes the ground—echoing—disturbing the silence immediately stopping Destiny's advancement. The things that were levitating, started to fall slowly back to the ground.
Silver to silver, we stare at each other for what feels like a lifetime. Destiny's beautiful deep silver eyes held unshed tears as she started to look around.
Sprinting forward, she wraps her arms around my neck. Shoving her face into my fur, it feels so good that I purr in delight and rub my head against her cheek. Finally, we've broken that barrier between us.
~~~~~~~
After some time, Jackson steps forward, handing me a pair of pants. Guess he figured it was okay to come back outside. Nodding, he gently removes Destiny, just enough for me to shift back—to put on the clothing.
I'm a bit surprised Destiny didn't protest, not like I mind. The moment I slip on the pants, I open my arms wide—and she manages to get out of Jackson's hold, crushing her body into my arms. I hug her as if she'll disappear the moment I let her go.
Her body begins to shake, breaking out into a fit of heartbreaking sobs. "That's it, pup. Let it out, daddy's got you," I cooed, hugging her more if that was even possible. Rubbing her back up and down while trying to soothe her.
"It... It... it hurts so much," she fumbles with her words, scratching at her chest. “I-I can't breathe,” she continues to choke out her words.
"Shhh, it's okay honey. Let it all out. Cry as much as you need to. I've got you now." I say kissing her bloody forehead, bringing her closer to my chest —hoping my heartbeat can soothe her. And it does, she slowly falls asleep after some time.
"She needs to be cleaned up and her injuries need attending to also," I say to no one in particular, getting off the ground—walking inside.
Sara, Martha, Anna, and Cammy come forward, but Cammy's the one who takes her out of my arms. And I fought the urge to snatch Destiny away from her, it felt so good having her cradled in my arms.
"We've got her Dante, don't worry," she reassures me softly and that's the first time in almost twenty years, she says anything to me without hissing or sneering and I smile in her direction.
******
"The Hunters are no more, to top it off, the heir to the Michaelson Coven is dead," a tired Adrian mumbled.
We're all tired old friend.
"You don't just wipe out an entire pack and walk away, Alpha. The council will come for her," Jackson states.
Sighing, this is so fucked up in so many ways. At first, it was a possibility of war, but now it is war. Both the council and the Crystal coven will be coming for Destiny.
"She was out of control, how did you control her?" Sara asked, everyone, looking at me expectantly.
"She has a wolf," I inform everyone, their eyes growing wide like saucers. "She still can't shift, but she has a wolf," I begin to say before they can question me any further. I continue.
"You see, Sara. When a beast is caged away for too long. Once it's unleashed, freedom and blood are what it seeks. For years, Destiny's been in a cage."
"How dare you question our upbringing of Destiny. No, my upbringing. I struggled, she struggled for years to control her primal desires!!" Sara screams angrily.
"And that's just it! She didn't need to control it, she needed to embrace it, becoming one with the beast within. I meant no disrespect, but she has a wolf. But her wolf is more of a spirit rather than the actual animal," I explain rather quickly, and finally, understanding shines in her eyes.
"If she has a wolf and embraces her primal side, does that solve the other problem?" Tyler questioned with a hint of hope within his voice.
"I don't know," I reply honestly.
“We won't get anywhere like this, I suggest we all get some much-needed rest,” Blue speaks up for the first time.
~~~~~~
Destiny is so beautiful, just like her mother. A smile finds its way on my face. My beautiful baby girl. How I wish things were different.
I wished you were born in the perfect world with both Maureen and I. One where mixed couples weren't frowned upon. I missed out on so much of your earlier life. No matter how much, I wish. I'm glad you're not perfect. Most fathers get to call their daughter princess, but not me. You're my warrior.
“You're perfectly imperfect and all mine. I wasn't there for your birth, first steps, first words. But I'll be there to walk you down that aisle, have our first and only father-daughter dance, and I'll be there when you welcome my first grandchild into this world.”
“Fuck what Jackson said about not having kids. We DeLuca never give up even when the odds are against us and you, my warrior, will defy the odds. After all, you've already had; by surviving your birth.” I whispered, wiping away the nonexistent tears on her face.
Staring one last time at my sleeping warrior before kissing her on the forehead. Walking out and closing the door, making my way into Tyler's office where the rest of the gang is.
"How's she doing?" Anna asks me softly.
"Better," we mind-linked.
"What I'm about to say, stays in this office. We have to consider there's a traitor within either pack." They nod in agreement, waiting to hear what I have to say.
"I thought it was suspicious how they were able to capture Destiny so easily just like that. So, Brandon and I checked out her car. The brakes were tampered with," Luca informs us.
"Yeah, that's why they got her to swerve the way she did. They knew the brakes would fail no matter what she did," Brandon explains further.
"Jackson, German. Assemble some of the best trackers. Only selecting a handful who'll fit in anywhere, we need eyes inside of the council." I ordered, and they nod.
"You'll need a few witches with you. Jenny and I may have the perfect girl for you. She's not an elemental witch, but if you need a quick escape route just in case, she's your girl," Cammy chips in.
"We have the best strategist in our pack, Luca. He can assemble a few guys who are under his training and command. They can come up with quick and effective strategies," Brandon adds.
That's right. Luca is the best strategist. The boy's mind is as sharp as my canines because what he lacks in body, he possesses in mind.
"You'll need protection. As an ex-member of the Crystals, you'll need every help you can get. They don't play fair, I know for sure. So, they'll be using dark magic," Sara adds.
"Tyler. You'll have to look over my pack for a few months or more in my absence." I declared as Tyler looks at me questioningly. "Technically, Destiny is the alpha to the Demon Warriors Pack and you're her mate," I explain and he gets it.
"But why?" He asks.
"Destiny needs nature. She's out of the cage now, some time in the wild would do her a ton of good. She needs time to heal, I have the perfect place for her."
"Where's that," Sara asks with a raised eyebrow.
"Trust me," is all I say.
"When do you plan on taking her?" Anna voices the question I know everyone wants to know.
"As soon as she's awake," I replied with a shrug.
We all bid each other goodnight, retiring into our respectful guest rooms. We've been staying at Tyler's ever since Destiny's return. I can feel the calm before the storm. But I made a promise to you my baby girl. That, I'll protect you even if it means giving up my life for yours. With that thought, I succumb to darkness.
****
Gently shaking Destiny, trying to wake her up. It's only four in the morning. I told the gang as soon as she wakes up, however, I have other plans. I want us to leave undetected.
"Destiny, honey. Wake up."
She mumbles and stirs, but doesn't wake up. Rolling my eyes, I try again and this time, it's a success.
"Dad," her groggily voice fills the silent room.
"Yeah, honey. Pack your gym bag, and get ready. Meet me downstairs in the next fifteen minutes, we're going on a trip." She nods and I make my way out of the room.
Exactly fifteen minutes later, both Destiny and I make our way to the garage, but to my surprise, some of the gang's here waiting for us. Anna, the boys, Martha, Blue, German, Tyler, and Michelangelo.
"How did you guys know?" I ask momentarily stunned.
“You think I don't know you," Anna replied, smirking.
The boys’ smirk, while Dean snickers at his mother's cheeky reply.
"Food for the road," Martha says holding out a huge basket.
"Destiny..." Sara starts.
"I'll wait by the car," Destiny says looking down at her sneakers like they were the most interesting thing ever. She walks away, leaving a devastated-looking Sara.
"Sorry, Sara," I softly said to the distraught woman.
"It's okay. I hope this trip gets her out of her funk," Sara muttered, trying to sound reassuring, but mostly to herself.
"Take care of your mother," I tell the boys.
"We will," they reply automatically and in sync.
"I love you," I say kissing Anna. "See you in a couple of months guys." I bid everyone goodbye.
Michelangelo goes up to Destiny and she embraces him, much to Tyler's dismay and I'm sure he wants to rip the poor guy to shreds.
"Let's go," I break up their moment. Destiny nods and just as we're about to enter the car, Dean runs up—hugging her leg—she stiffened.
"Please. I need my happy sister again. Please bring her back home," he whispered, but we all hear him.
Destiny's eyes begin to water but say nothing. Dean lets her go, getting back to his brothers.
Huddling into the SUV, we threw the bags around back and buckled up. Damn. I love this car. Got to hand it to Tyler, the boy knows his cars.
"Where are we going?" Destiny enquires after forty-five minutes of driving.
"Do you trust me, pup?" I reply with a question of my own while staring into her deep silver eyes.
"Yes," she responds immediately. Without any form of hesitation and I want to fist bump the air.
"Good," is all I say, but inside I'm bouncing up and down like a kid. Don't you worry baby girl, It's time you own the alpha within. I thought to myself.
