Chapter The Attack
Mateo's pov.
I was waiting, sitting at the porch of our packhouse. Mindlinking, the pack wolves of the strategy we will be using.
A smirk making it's way on my lips as I think of what all I have planned for this so called Viper. It's been years since I last used this strategy, but I know it's flawless.
Let's see how he escapes this.
I see Arthur coming towards me. And bowing.
"Everything is done brother. What next?"
I look at him to nod.
"We wait"
"Movements traced in Eastern and Western border. Central plains are clear.”
"Shall we attack Alpha?"
"No"
I reject to only have Arthur to look at me in worry.
"But bro! They are just near our treasuries! At this rate they will steal everything and leave!"
I look at him with calmness redefined. As he paces in front of me in worry.
"They won't Arthur calm down. Our aim is to not stop them but to catch them with evidence.” "We don't stop them from coming. We stop them from leaving instead.”
His eyes widen. To only have him finally nod. Trusting me with this.
While the stupid rogues were busy looting the treasuries. My people were slowly coming in ,to surround them.
Closing in from the borders,to concentrating them in the center.
Once assured that they were surrounded, I finally give my nod.
"Attack"
My grip tightens as the pathetic rogue tests my patience.
"I asked, where is he!"
He refuses again and I decide to end him . Enough chances given already. The hatred for these pathetic rogues that killed my father burning inside me. And my grip tightens.
"Then die"
His legs thrash, and his hands try to prey away mine. To no avail. He will be dead any second. Slowly his grip on my wrist start loosing and I see his eyes rolling back.
When suddenly, a sharp pain hits my shoulder and my grip on the rogue drops. Making his body to lean down the tree. Coughs erupting.
I stagger back immediately, to only see a arrow rooted in my shoulder. And I curse.
"Ahhh fuc*!”
Holding my shoulder, I breathe heavily. To look at this bloody attacker. And I go still for a second. In front of the rogue, defending him stood a man with a long cloak covering him.
His face hidden behind a mask and his aura mysterious and deadly.
I blink.
Surprised to only have the person move his head to a side. And speak lowly to the man behind. "You can't do one thing right can you? Are you fine?"
The rogue manages to nod. Managing to get up on his shaky leg. To only bow.
"Alpha... am sorr-"
"Just leave”
The masked person says. Dismissing the rogue and a smile covers my lips.
So this is him huh?
The infamous Viper. His mysteries aura and lack of scent. Leaving no doubts on his identity. "But Alph-"
"I said leave Char!"
The way the person spoke. Made an uneasiness to settle inside me. The voice was no doubt powerful and authoritative. But there was something in it.
It almost felt familiar.
And my wolf agreed with me on this.
I see the rogue getting up to run. And I don't do anything to catch him. More interested in the masked man in front of me instead.
Looking at him from top to bottom I couldn't help smirk, to speak in a voice laced in humour. "Interesting choice of costume. Viper. The mystery? I like it"
He doesn't seemed amused. Not even a bit. That cold look plastered on his face remains as he finally looks at me for the first time.
And that's when my smirk drops.
As I see a pair of brown eyes looking at me, that felt too oddly familiar to me. The eyes I see in my dreams were there, staring at me. And I for a second forgot everything around me.
Eirene?
No! This can't be!
I must be hallucinating.
She is dead Mateo. Dead.
Taking advantage of my lost state. He attacks me, pinning me under him. And I don't know what possessed me as I go still.
Letting him
I didn't wanted to fight. I just wanted to stare at those eyes for eternity. As they stared back at me, while literally strandling me.
"Die Alpha"
The voice speaks, ready to plung a knife in my chest. When I come out of my shocked state. To only hold the knife, just inches away from my chest .
Drops of blood, slide down the knife to fall on me.
And that's when the realisation settles in.
This is not her, this is my enemy. The Viper. The leader of rogues I am supposed to kill. And with this.
I smirk. Looking at him.
"Not so easily Viper. This is just the beginning”
And with this I turn around the table, pinning him under me.
To attack.
