Chapter : Prologue
The baby girl pulled her mother’s amulet as she cried. The baby boy, distressed from her crying, joined in.
“Shh, shh Avery, Aidens getting upset,” the mother said.
The twins cried, not understanding their mother’s words just yet. The baby girl’s light blonde hair was barely visible as her big blue eyes squeezed shut and her mouth opened, letting out a loud cry. Tears spilled down her chubby cheeks.
The father walked into the room as the mother tried her best to calm the babies. The baby boy hushed as he saw his father approach him. His blue eyes looked curiously at his father.
The father reached down into the crib to gently pick the boy up, helping in the mother’s efforts to quiet the two babies. The baby boy shared his father’s features, blonde hair, icy blue eyes, and a strong nose.
Suddenly a little boy came stumbling into the room, shouting, “Momma, momma! Look, I drew a dragon, look!” he thrust the paper upwards towards his mother. His light blonde hair was almost white as it rested just above his crystal blue eyes. His chubby cheeks formed dimples as he revealed a toothy smile.
“Justin! I put you in your bed over an hour ago. Why are you still up?” the mother asked, exhausted. Her scarlet hair flowed elegantly down her back. She wore jeans and a white silk blouse. Shifting the baby girl onto her hip, she dabbed at the sweat forming on her glistening forehead.
“He wanted to draw with me.” A little girl said quietly. Her bright red hair fell in curls around her face. One big blue eye looked down nervously while the other hid behind the door jam. She was just a bit bigger than the boy who ran in.
“Oh, Selene! You’re up too?” the father said, managing to get the baby boy to sleep. He glanced back at the mother and said, “I guess having twins will be more challenging than we believed it would be…”
