The Gamer's System

Chapter 83: Zeke and the Chimeras - End

[Advance]

This is a term used in some games while, other games have another term to use for the concept. It's not a skill shot within the game nor any status point buff. Lastly, it ain't any system bonus that suddenly strengthens a player's avatar.

[Advance] is a concept with this specification: the player makes attacks at a certain location where they estimate the enemy to be soon at. Any attack done with this in mind uses a lot of things in consideration.

One of these is the understanding of the patterns and movements of the enemy. One cannot simply make an [Advance] without knowing the limits and patterns of their enemy. Any attack done using this concept in mind usually has no lock on effect. Hence, they depend on the player's understanding of their enemy in order to improve the accuracy and chances of hitting.

Instead of throwing the bullets at his fast-paced enemies, Zeke knew that [Advance] would be the best move to use in fighting against them. And right now, the [Chimeras] have stepped into his carefully executed plan.

On the ground, Zeke placed a [Detonate] which contains [Umbral Slash] within it. This is not intended for the [Chimeras] which, Zeke thinks to be difficult to damage. The [Detonate] is intended for the bullets which he threw in the air.

"Detonate." Zeke said, releasing the umbral slashes which hit 12 fully charged bullets. One of the [Chimera] appeared at the spot in mid-air where he [Dived] to. Zeke used [Shadow Dive] again. This left the two [Chimeras] at the perfect spots for Zeke and his attack. Right at the moment where they'd take the full blow of his planned attack.

The explosion is nothing like Zeke expected. Even as he [Dived] to a considerable distance away from the enemies, he could still see the attack combination widen in range. There is a spiraling orb that continued expanding, as if it would not end. Everything near it got sucked within as the sphere looking darkness swirled with destructive force.

Zeke looked at his [Minimap] and, saw that more than one problem got solved because of the skill. The enemies got devoured by the skill, and so did Zeke's [Poison Cloud] and summons. Although, he is not concerned about the latter as his conjures do not die, they just return to him.

"What about those things?' Zeke thought to himself as he viewed the map. A grin crept on his face as he found that even the [Chimeras] have vanished, neatly out of his [Minimap]. Their existence extinguished by his attack…or so he thought.

Before Zeke could even rest easy and proceed to further actions, he felt the sudden surge of auras more menacing than before. Without any idea on the clear skill set of the [Chimeras], Zeke gambled on the bullets finishing off his opponents. However, now that the soldiers have been wiped out, the [Chimeras] have more sacrifices to use. They regenerated using these, sucking out every bit of energy from the fresh corpses and, without even a minute's worth of time, the [Chimeras] have come back. But, unlike before, they are now of a shadow like figure, with all the features being indistinguishable – save for their eyes which still gleamed a murderous blood red color.

"Oh, you've done it now. That's not how you deal with Chimeras idiot." Glade said merrily over the communication bracelet of Zeke, surprising the human.

"I don't think this is the right time for a touchy reunion." Zeke replied, putting into account the fact that two months have already passed in Elysium during his short stay in Yaeger's realm.

"Aweee and here I thought you'd be happy to actually hear my voice." Glade replied, hearing Zeke's heavy breathing over the communication bracelet.

"Well I'm not necessarily fond of backstabbing snakes such as yourself." Zeke replied, having to [Shadow Dive], multiple times as his enemies just continue disappearing from the map. A few moments ago, he could still see them but now, there is only a single second of delay before they disappear from sight again – making Zeke break into a cold sweat as he couldn't think of any preventive measure against the [Chimeras]. If only he still had [The One Who Cheats Death], the [Chimeras] would stand no chance against him. But, he can't rely on a skill with a single chance of usage.

[Quest Update]

[Additional rewards for killing the Chimeras have been placed.]

[50 Skill Points will now be given upon the successful defeat of one Chimera.]

"That's nice to see." Zeke said out loud.

"What is?" contemporary romance

"Nothing. Just stay where you are and watch." Zeke replied, realizing that his communication bracelet is still on.

"Okay you're the boss." Was Glade's reply, not speaking back anymore.

Both what Glade said and the quest update assured Zeke of one thing. That there is a way to defeat the [Chimeras] he is facing.

"Conjure." Zeke began, releasing all his summons at once. With all the enemy forces being wiped out, Zeke only needs to focus on the enemies in front of him. And so, all the summons which he acquired thus far are now waiting for their next command.

In the crater created by Zeke's earlier attack, the [Chimeras] and Zeke's [Conjure] army looked each other up. But unlike Zeke who wanted to calculate the next move to make, the Chimeras simply pressed on with the same prideful attitude of their original forms.

The first thing which Zeke did is to try hitting them with [Umbral Slash] charged bullets. If his guess is right then, Zeke can move forward and eliminate the other ideas which have already entered his head.

Again, the human used [Advance] for his attack. Zeke dived over and over again, calculating the follow-up speed of the Chimeras and, after a few seconds, Zeke now has a grasp on the new pattern made by the monsters. Although this did not come without a price as, his body got clawed by the monsters twice.

Zeke didn't mind and continued [Diving], making his opponents think that all he plans to do is run away when in fact he has been charging one bullet per gun. And, upon completing this, he fired at the spot where the [Chimeras] would show up. Sure enough, the creatures were there on the moment of contact.

Smoke covered the monsters and, Zeke didn't let his guard down, placing Lupus beside him to defend in case the Chimeras make their next move. And they did, only two seconds after the attack.

Zeke was able to steal a glance at their health bars as he jumped up. He saw that, not even two percent of their health got depleted. Lupus got hit by both [Chimeras] but, was still able to remain standing with a little below half its health.

"Okay that confirms it. You develop a sort of immunity from the attack that almost killed you. Great. Just great." Zeke said out loud, wanting the [Chimeras] to hear him even though he is not sure if they could understand what he is saying.

And yet, there is a smile on his face once more. He remembered watching a clip from [Devil May Laugh] where the angel was overfed with holy aura and thus, destroyed. And, Zeke now plans to employ a similar tactic against the [Chimeras].

Zeke cannot visit the store to check his coins nor browse for a new skill as there are no reserves of skill points left for him. Instead, Zeke gambled with what he currently has. He returned [Death's Symphony Mk. II] to his [Inventory] and, brought out the mana potions he has left. This is together with and, his all cutting blade [Sting of the Void] on the other.

"Ahh just thinking about what I'm about to do gets my head hurting." Zeke told himself as he made a deep sigh. The [Chimeras] chased him down again but now, instead of running away…Zeke headed toward the creatures. His enemies always arrive at the spot of their target without any problems but, he has never seen them attack him as he charged nor was this a move he did earlier on. Hence, the [Chimeras] are caught by a split-second surprise and, Zeke place a [Winged Monkey] in front of him knowing that it would first be hit before he is. Sure enough, the [Monkey] got destroyed and this gave Zeke an estimate on how long it would take for them to collide.

"Now!" He shouted, releasing both Erio and Cull at his sides. Lupus is placed a bit further back. The human stabbed his blade in the air and, this caught one of the [Chimera] while the other collided with Lupus.

Boasting of its defensive ability, the [Chimera] was not able to finish off Lupus in one go. And, with all the deaths in the battlefield, it is not only the Chimeras who benefit from it but also the [Hellhound] Lupus who recovered instantly.

Lupus bit the [Chimera] which screamed in pain while, the one caught by Zeke also did the same. What happened next is this. Zeke continuously summoned and released his conjures, making them appear at various places for only a split second. Through this, the [Chimeras] cannot attack his conjures and, cause them confusion from the barrage that seemingly covers every spot. They made their attacks, carving their way through the bodies of the summons while Zeke also place himself in the mix – [Shadow Diving] on and on and, successfully using [Sting of the Void] to wound the [Chimeras'] bodies.

As mentioned, this blade can cut through any physical defense. No matter what resistance the [Chimeras] produce, they can't develop a countermeasure for a weapon which is sharp enough to even slice through the adaptive capability they possess.

And not only this, the different forms of attack used by Zeke's [Conjures] overloaded the [Chimeras'] bodies. With everything harming them at the moment, Zeke's opponents finally found themselves into a dangerous predicament. As [Chimeras], they can only adapt to one thing at a time, and having all these rain of them made their bodies go haywire. At a certain point, Zeke finally saw them unable to recover for the wounds and, their shadowy figures started deforming into smudgy unrecognizable creatures.

"Time to finish this." Zeke said, taking a shadow version of Erio's sword which is now charged by all the death's it harvested, He used it to aim at the necks of his enemies. And as soon as the blade found its way within their flesh, Zeke shouted…

"Shadow Dive!"

The three of them transported to the shadow of a [Winged Monkey], on an area far away from the battlefield. Meaning, the corpses of the soldiers are nowhere nearby and so, the [Chimeras] have no life force to absorb anymore.

Zeke's slash continued, with him shouting as the blade went through the [Chimeras] necks. During the ancient days, dwellers would form groups to hunt down one [Chimera]. But today, at this very moment, a single human managed to defeat two all by himself.

Zeke, the human, now stands higher than any past Dweller of Mythos.
