Chapter 10
Later that night after the silence from everyone, a police ride home later, Jasmine locked herself in her room, eyes burning from the tears and heartbroken from the failure. Gabriel placed his hand on the door, wanting to open it, wanting to let her know it will be okay, but even in his confident arrogance there was no doubt Jasmine was on the verge of breaking down. Her faith was already shattered, but now for sure it was eternally broken.
Jasmine sat on her bed knees up in the silence staring blankly at the wall, drinking tequila straight out the bottle. Replay of her falling down the stairs and seeing Chelsea’s spirit lead her to her own battered and bruised body, seeing her face, knowing she failed. In her mind Chelsea was blaming her, walking zombielike towards her, hands out pointing at her. It was only in her head, but Jasmine covered her eyes by hiding her forehead in her knees rocking back and forth.
There was a soft knock and then her door opened, which she thought she locked, but Gabriel came in with a plate of food, waffles and eggs. “I thought you may have gotten hungry.” He gave her a reassuring smile as he sat the plate on her dresser with a sigh unsure of how to start to cheer her up. “How are you feeling? You took a nasty fall when you fell down the stairs.”
He started to touch her head to check for himself, but Jasmine slapped his hand away. “I’m fine.” She snapped.
“You aren’t, clearly.”
She scoffed. “Well I’m better than Chelsea if that’s what you mean.” Gabriel looked away then, feeling her anger and resentment, unknown to him of how to handle it, his first thought was to leave her alone until she snapped out of it herself, but she continued. “It’s funny how again I’m the one that’s being placed on trial for saving lives while the one who took a life is spared, saved even. Can he repent and go to heaven with her? How is that fair for her?”
Gabriel sighed, really not in the mood either to go through her loss of faith with her. “Jasmine…”
“No, Gabriel. Tell me. Why is that possible? I have fought my entire life to walk the straight and narrow and the only thanks I get for it is to be haunted by the damn Guild? What have I done huh?”
“It is written as The Almighty’s design.”
She laughed a mere HA as her head shook. “That’s exactly my point. This is The Almighty’s big plan for his own people to suffer. What kind of God, almighty or whatever, punishes his own people?” She staggered in Gabriel’s face as he stood unmoving and eyes lowered as he stared at her. “Maria was suffering from cancer and did the Almighty heal her? How about the rest of his people?”
“Jasmine, I realize that losing Chelsea is disappointing, but you have to think about the people you did save. Bri Connor, Amelia France, countless others before I even landed…”
“Don’t.” She warned, holding up the bottle in his face.
“You have not failed Jasmine.”
“Chelsea is dead, how is that not a failure? What is the point of this gift as you call it if I can’t save everyone?”
Gabriel didn’t reply. “And how convenient your assassins come attack right before I find her. Was it the Almighty’s plan to slow me down?” She shook her head as she spoke. “What a coward.”
“Jasmine enough!” Gabriel finally broke. His voice boomed over hers and the room nearly shook from the bass of it. “Your feelings of sadness are valid even your anger, but I will not allow you to sit here and blame The Almighty for it. Try to look on the brighter side. Bringing Pedro to justice should be the goal now.”
“There is a brighter side…” Jasmine took a huge gulp of the tequila as it burned her throat. “You will be back in The Almighty’s good graces and out of my face.”
That stabbed Gabriel’s heart unexpectedly. Why it hit him so hard he didn’t understand, but he turned and walked out of her room before he succumbed to her level of anger. He took a deep breath once he exited. Something inside of him, maybe the human emotions, wanted to break, but he refused to give up on the mission. Their work was far from over.
While researching on the computer very diligently and slowly, having seen Jasmine do it, Gabriel thought to take a crack at it. There was a knock on the door then, later that night. Xavier was on the other side barely standing, smelling of almost the same substances Jasmine did. Gabriel rolled his eyes as he let him in.
“How is she?” Xavier asked, looking around the room already knowing where she was. “She doesn’t take loss very well. Not when she can see them…” Gabriel only nodded. “Yeah let me just go…” Xavier walked to her door and knocked.
“Go away Gabriel.” She shouted.
Xavier turned to him as if he had done something. Gabriel only shrugged. “It’s me. Open up.” The door opened then and closed before Gabriel could say anything encouraging or apologizing. He was left on the couch holding his head feeling out of place for the first time.
Xavier walked in to Jasmine’s room as drunk as she was. They were quiet for a moment as Jasmine placed her head back on top of her knees. “You come to patronize me too?”
Xavier staggered shaking his head. “I came to drink with you. Give me that bottle.” He said as he sat down reaching for it. She handed it to him and watched him take a swig and gave it back to her. “We really screwed up huh?”
Jasmine scoffed. “None of this should be happening. We had him. We could’ve saved her.”
Xavier shook his head. “Chelsea Daniels had been dead for over twelve hours, Jasmine. She was gone before we got there…”
“Still! We could’ve saved her.”
“You’re tormenting yourself, Jasmine. There was nothing…”
She stood staggering as she did so causing Xavier to catch her and they both fell back on the bed. Fresh tears fell down her face as Xavier sighed, wiping them away. Jasmine jerked her head away stubbornly and hit Xavier in the head then causing him to groan from pain, sitting up as he did so. Jasmine stood with him as he turned to the mirror to look at his injury.
“I’m so sorry. How’s your head?” She asked, touching the spot where he was bleeding. Her hands caressed his temple at first and then his cheek as they looked each other in the eyes. The chemistry between them exploded and Xavier leaned in and took over her mouth as he did the first time he showed up at her door.
Neither one was in any position to stop the other this time. Jasmine just as vulnerable as Xavier gave in to the temptations of their bodies, needing to feel anything more than the pain that coursed through her veins. Xavier grabbed her by the back of her head and they both started to walk to the bed, free falling on it as they did so. Xavier sat up after kissing her a few more times, basking in the satisfaction of finally having her. Once he lifted his shirt, Jasmine blinked several times seeing Gabriel once he lifted the shirt over his head. Before she came to her senses of who she really wanted, Xavier was on her again, kissing her senseless, tugging at her sweat pants.
A soft moan escaped her lips as his mouth began to trail down her brown creamy flesh to her chest right when he relieved her of her bottoms. His movements seemed rushed just enough to get her where he needed her to be. Of course sexual desire was heightened in their drunken state so soft passionate love making was out of the question, perhaps it was for the best since Jasmine knew in her mind she was making a huge mistake. Xavier loved her in a way she would never be open enough to share. Opening this relationship could end badly and she could lose her only friend.
If she was thinking clearly enough she would’ve stopped. If her life hadn’t just dropped to hell she would’ve stopped. Her thoughts also roamed on their own to Gabriel who was on the other side of the door. She knew she said things to push him away, hurting his feelings so he could run from her. Gabriel was becoming too close to fast and that fact frightened her more than anything.
Her thoughts were brought back to the situation at hand now that Xavier had succeeded in undressing her and was now massaging and licking on her breast. She arched into him feeling the sensations in her walls causing them to contract and become wetter ready for his sweet invasion. There must have been some part of Xavier thinking clearly because he moved away for a moment, taking a condom out of his pocket and pulling his pants down just enough to allow his dick to roam free. Xavier turned her around so her plump ass was hiked into the air. He groaned unable to control his dick from jerking at the sight.
“You don’t know how long I waited for you, Jasmine.” He said, caressing her ass.
“Don’t talk.” She replied already reading what he wanted to do to her in his mind.
Xavier couldn’t help but fulfill the request as he eased into her, slowly, hissing as he did so. Jasmine arched her back into a perfect form into a perfect arch, giving Xavier unlimited access to her as she wanted to drift away. She wanted to feel him inside of her, giving her pleasure, nothing else. Moans escaped her mouth low at first, but Xavier picked up the pace causing her to become louder.
Gabriel sat on the couch, jaw tightened as he closed his eyes to draw out the sounds. It was bad enough she was pushing him away, but now there was proof Jasmine and Xavier weren’t just talking. His human emotions and body was now taking full control over his thoughts. Her moans…They were penetrating his senses, causing blood to flow to areas, awakening his sexual arousal for the first time.
Gabriel placed his head against the couch, face planted towards the ceiling. Humans were made to reproduce so their bodies naturally reacted with hormones and pheromones that angels could never comprehend or remember. How did they control their selves for so long? Temptation was everywhere and their bodies’ reactions caused them to crave things they know are wrong. He had to admit he was attracted to Jasmine, wanted to protect her and shield her from her own pain, but she refused to allow him to get close.
Regardless of what he thought or wanted, he didn’t own her or he would be no better than Xavier. They had history and knew each other for quite some time and it was obvious they shared some kind of connection. Unable to take anymore torture, Gabriel stood. His eyes traveled down to the erection bulging trying to ignore it. He closed his eyes and started to think about the case and other things as he walked out to the balcony into the cold crisp night air.
Sirens from the distance rang out as the wind blew in his face, calming him instantly. Gabriel accepted the breeze and sighed as he looked down at the ground below. His hands gripped the railing tight as he focused to clear his thoughts.
“Can’t handle a little human temptation?”
Gabriel nearly jumped out of his skin at the voice above him. Luckily he recognized the voice and relaxed his fists down from glowing as he turned. “Ezekiel?” His brother jumped down with a stylish glide as his wings nearly took up the balcony. “What are you doing here?”
“I came to check on you and to get answers for myself. Rumor has it you fought off the Guild single handedly.”
Gabriel looked confused. “No. That’s not…”
“Oh well I see your human form hasn’t taken full control yet. You still have your ability to tell the truth.” Ezekiel joked, laughing softly. “I actually heard you got defeated and your mission took them out. Extraordinary, her gifts.” Ezekiel turned his back to look at Jasmine from the window.
Gabriel avoided turning around. “Yes she is.”
“Do you yearn for this human affection, brother?”
“I’m not sure.” Gabriel replied honestly. “I have a mission, but I’m not sure what I’m doing here anymore.” He started to explain. “We lost someone we were looking for, Chelsea Daniels. Jasmine and Xavier are both taking it pretty hard. Her faith is already gone and she blames The Almighty for not helping. I see The Almighty’s work, but I am uncertain whether it’s because I am an angel still transforming into a human or because I have faith others clearly don’t.”
“It is so because you have knowledge that The Almighty exists, others do not. It may be a slippery slope to go on.” They were quiet as they listened to the neighborhood. “It seems rather chaotic down here.”
Gabriel scoffed. “It is.”
“I need to ask a favor of you.” Ezekiel’s voice sort of trailed off as he looked ahead. Gabriel looked worried then. “I need you to be careful. You know if you sin you won’t be able to come back. You will stay stuck on this earth and cease to exist. I don’t want that for you. Whatever human emotion you are feeling is just a phase of the skin you are in. Do not give in to that, understand?”
Gabriel wanted to tell him it was easy. His usually confident demeanor was slowly being chiseled away at so many unknown things that were beyond his control. He decided to change the subject instead. He never could tell an untruth to his brother.
“How long have we been Angels, Ezekiel?”
“What do you mean? All of our existence.”
Gabriel shook his head. “It’s something about this life that seems so familiar to me. I look at myself in the mirror and feel as if…Could it be possible we were recruited and not made? We are all The Almighty’s children yes, but some angels were hand crafted by him…”
“You mean like Lucifer?” Gabriel sighed and turned back to the busy city. “If what you say is real brother, we have been angels for centuries. Anyone who ever loved us or known us is long gone to hell or with us in heaven. Going back to dig up the past is pointless. Don’t use that as any excuse for your final death.” Ezekiel hit his shoulders. “Take care of yourself and come home soon.” He flew into the sky before Gabriel could protest.
Taking a deep breath, he thought long and hard about his next move. He could just go home now while he still had Angelic abilities and beg The Almighty for forgiveness or he could do as The Almighty requested of him to watch over Jasmine. There was a plan set into motion Gabriel was certain of. Now wasn’t the time to question it. He hit the railing with his hand, determined to make things right, he propelled himself off the railing and landed perfectly on his feet on the ground. He had to go back to where it all started, the Mix and Mingle club.
Xavier thrusted into Jasmine just like he pictured in his mind. Being with her was like hitting the lottery. Teresa hadn’t felt so good in his entirety. Why had Jasmine placed this spell on him? Why wouldn’t she want to be with him? He loved her, but refused to tell her that while smacking her ass.
Her moans were intoxicating and sweat beaded his brow as if he was working out. She could read his thoughts and knew exactly what to do and when to stop to keep him from coming. Perhaps that was the exhilarating part about it. She twerked, her ass jiggled, and she pretty much worked him then vice versa.
“Shit just like that.” Xavier did everything except place his hands behind his back as he closed his eyes and allowed her to take over him. She then stopped suddenly, while he looked disappointed. He followed her hands as she took another huge gulp of the alcohol, using her pointy finger to gesture him forwards.
Xavier followed her, taking another sip of the bottle as well before he dragged her legs back down to him. He guided himself securely inside causing her to moan again as her sights started to blur and again she saw Gabriel. Xavier’s hips thrust forwards causing her to close her eyes while he took over pounding into her while the room began to spin. Xavier’s moan was echoing through her head, a slew of curses, the sound of his thighs slapping against hers, the ringing in her ear sounded off right before she came hard, releasing all her anger and stress before she stopped remembering.
Gabriel walked into the club after his long walk there. It was his first time on foot, but every angel knew the earth from carrying. Once he was at a location he knew it in his mind, memorized like the humans he carried. Another perk of being a carrier. They were the closest to the human kind than any other angel. Eyes turned to him once he entered the blasting night club seemingly as it wasn’t as packed as it was before. Sunday late night didn’t seem to draw the same amount of people as Saturday nights did.
The faces staring at him didn’t bother him, but the atmosphere certainly took a turn on the dark side. Coming from the stairs Raina walked down, unusually solemn and welcoming. “Gabriel you’re back?” She looked at him with slight disgust. “Umm in gray sweats of all things. You trying to seduce me? Without Jasmine?”
Her high heels clicked as she approached him, different red dress, but the same color lipstick. Gabriel turned away from her as he looked around. “I came alone just to look for anything on the missing girls.”
“Were you able to find them?” Gabriel shook his head sadly in response. Raina frowned. “Such a shame. It sometimes racks my brain what these humans do to each other. They say demons are bad, but they have no regard for life.”
“And you do?” Gabriel rose his eyebrows as if he didn’t believe what she was saying.
“I’m a temptress not a murderer. I can have sympathy for these poor sods.” She replied, offended. “Are you any closer to finding Lucifer?”
Gabriel shook his head. “The girls were our possible lead to him.”
Raina rubbed her chin with her thumb and pointy finger. “I see.” She gestured towards the bar area, wrapping her arms around Gabriel’s left arm as she slightly pulled him over. “That man has spiked the woman’s drink beside him. His thoughts are very unpleasant. I have noticed him around almost every night talking to her. Now that Hugo, the bouncer, is in police custody I’ve been keeping a close eye on him.”
Gabriel turned his head to what she was seeing, but Raina used her nail on her pointy finger to turn Gabriel back to her, piercing his cheek with her sharp end. “Don’t look. We have to act cool about this.” She suggested.
“Why are you helping me?” Gabriel asked confusion written all over his face as he grabbed her wrist, pulling it away from him. Maybe it was all in his mind, but he wasn’t attracted to Raina at all. His dick didn’t even bother to erect itself maybe because he knew who she was and her seduction didn’t work on him, but why did Jasmine?
“I’m helping you because I want Lucifer found. We aren’t on good terms and I want him to go back to hell. Obviously we both can’t be on earth roaming and I was here first.” Raina’s voice brought Gabriel out of his thoughts. She grabbed his arm again and pretended to dance with his stiff body as he just followed her lead towards the bar. She placed his arms around her as she pulled him into her body. He used the bar to balance himself, the scene looked like he was thrusting forward, and they were making out.
Raina touched his cheeks and rubbed her hands all over his chest. Gabriel became uncomfortable, but before he could back away, Raina wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled him closer with her arms, pulling him in a mind-blowing kiss that should’ve relaxed him. Gabriel’s eyes bucked open wide and his entire body froze. Raina’s tongue swirled in his mouth as he could feel the vibration of her moan. Her teeth scraped his bottom lip pulling it as she pulled back.
She kissed his cheeks then and whispered in his ear, “We have their attention.”
Gabriel looked over to the man she said was drugging the woman. His eyes immediately met the woman and recognized her instantly. “Trisha?” Her eyes were dazed and cloudy as she swayed back and forth. Gabriel pulled away from Raina then with anger on his face as he grabbed his collar. “Who are you?”
“I didn’t do nothing man!” The man yelled holding his hands up. Trisha started to stand, but stumbled falling down as she did so. Raina caught her before she hit the ground.
“You drugged her.” Gabriel shook the man throwing him to the bar with a hard thud. Raina stopped him before he punched him.
“Not here. I have a place.” She suggested.
Gabriel and Raina took both Trisha and her date to the back of the club, a room for passionate lovers that needed a load off then. A bed there, nothing more, but Trisha was able to rest while Gabriel knocked the man around without the fear of people around.
“What were you planning on doing with her?” Gabriel asked.
Raina crossed her arms. “Oh you know what he was planning on doing.”
Gabriel punched him again, fists glowing this time as the man started to plead for his life. “Wait wait! I wasn’t going to rape her. I swear. I was paid to kidnap her and take her to my boss.”
“What boss?” Gabriel asked, but then answered his own question. “Chase Fallon. Where is he?”
“Alright I will tell you.”
