Chapter 4
(Chapter song ‘Tik Tok' by Kesha)
SARAH
OK. Oh my God. He talked to me. Like actually talked to me. Sure, he yelled at me, but at this point, I’ll take it.
The only reason I did it was because I spent the entire tour watching his back muscles flex and stopping myself from drooling on my shirt. I needed to say something before I passed out.
Of course, my bullshit doesn’t score any points, but as far as I’m concerned, the ice is broken. I’m in. One thing I did notice was he was so angry. I don’t think it was because of me. He’s just an angry guy, I guess.
I was in a trance all through lunch. Watching him talk with his friends and eat. What I wouldn’t give to be at that table.
“You’re eyeing someone. Tell me.” Ash leans on the table.
“Am not!” I lower my head and try to hide my cheeks as I pick at my food.
“Yes, you are. I can tell, Sarah.” Shane smirks.
I scowl at him. “Mind your business.”
“Stop being my twin, idiot!’ He scoffs back.
Stupid twin intuition.
“It doesn’t matter. He’s out of my league.” I mumble as I stand and walk my tray to the garbage can.
Ash jogs up beside me. “Ok. So, how do you know? I mean, we’re all recruits here.”
“I know… It's just...” I watch Jayson laugh with his friends and I know, deep down, I most likely won’t get a shot, but something in me feels like I should try. “Yeah. Maybe. We should go unpack before the rest of the tour starts.”
She grabs my arm. “Ok. Let’s go roomie.”
We leave the dining hall, giggling like high-schoolers as guys watch us leave.

JAYSON
After barely keeping my eyes and ears off of Sarah, I decided to pass my group off to Wren and hide in my office like I wanted to do.
I sit at my desk, pouring through the recruit files, when a knock came on my door.
“It’s open.” I call.
“Hey. Got a minute?” Kale pokes his head in.
“Yeah. What’s up?” I drop my pen.
He stands with his hands in his pockets. “So, you got that girl starting at 5 tomorrow, right?”
I nod. “Yep.”
“Okay,” He sits. “Who’s going to be with her?”
Shit. I never thought of that.
He smiles. “I mean. I’ll do it. I have no problems with getting up early.”
I shouldn’t let him do it. I know I shouldn’t let him do it, but this girl is already under my fucking skin and it’s only been a day.
I scrub my face. “Uh, yeah. Okay. If you don’t mind.”
He shakes his head. “Don’t mind at all, bud. I’ll watch her.” He winks.
I point my finger at him. “Behave.”
He throws his hands up. “Hey, man. Just helping out.”
“Sure.” I squint my eyes.
“I’ll be a complete gentleman.” He chuckles.
I shake my head. “Get out of here.”
He jumps up and walks out, leaving my door wide open.
“Close the door!” I yell.
He runs back, smiles and grabs the door to close it.
As I fill out forms, my wolf is rattling around. It’s weird. He perked up when Kale offered to babysit. He’s been unsettled ever since. I’ll have to run him later.
I try to concentrate and I just can’t.
“This is so stupid.” I lean back in my chair and rub my hands across my face.
I sit up and lean on my desk. “Fuck.” I grumble as I get up and head out to the field. I can’t just avoid her. I have to at least make it look like I run this place.
I get out to the field and look around with my hands on my hips. I saunter around as the kids do warm-ups, stretches and run the circuits.
I see Sarah standing with a group of kids talking. No other Alpha seems to be paying attention, so I’ll have to deal with it.
She has her back to me and my eyes go directly to her ass. Wearing those leggings sure shows it off. I shake my head and focus.
I stand behind her and clear my throat.
She turns around and I cross my arms, arching a brow. Her mouth shrinks and she blinks her big, blue eyes at me. The one kid she’s standing with looks exactly like her, but in boy form. Must be a family member. There’s a taller kid with ink and that little curly brown-haired girl. They all just stare at me like we’re at the beach or something.
“You know this isn’t a tea party, right?” I grumble.
Sarah smirks. “We’re taking a break.”
I bite my cheek at the mouthiness of this kid.
The kid that looks like her, pulls on her arm. “Sarah…” He says quietly. He looks freaked.
I step up to her. “This is my camp. You get break, when I say you get break. 50 push ups now!”
“What?! Not fair!” She furrows her brow, fists clenched.
I get up in her space. I feel suffocated almost. There’s a scent coming off her that’s invading my senses. Sweet flowers and honey. I dismiss it, but it’s hard to ignore. “I told you, kid. This isn’t supposed to be fair. Now, drop!” I point to the ground.
She drops to the ground to start her push ups, swearing under her breath.
I look to the other three. “Unless the rest of you want to join her, I suggest you stop socializing and get back to practice.”
They all let out a “Yes, Alpha” in unison and turn on their heels.
I squat down to Sarah. As she comes up, I say in a low voice. “Continue to fuck with me and I’ll make your time here hell.” She turns her eyes to me and I give her a nod and a wink. Her blue eyes narrow, following me as I stand and walk away.
For the rest of the day, I observe. I remain in eyesight so she knows I’m watching her and I won’t be tolerating her shit. While I do that, I can’t help but notice the way her fit body moves. Her thighs are so… Jay stop it.
She stops and I perk up. She peels off her sweater and reveals a black sport bra. Oh, shit. I lick my lips and turn to the recruits in front of me. I offer corrections for form, but my eyes keep flicking to her cleavage as she does push ups. She’s a child, Jay. An immature little girl. Don’t even think it.
At dinner, I’m in line for food. Luke and Kale cut in behind me.
“Hey, look.” Kale grabs my attention and shoves his phone in between us. He shows us an update from Falcon.
‘Dragons on move. Southern states. All units be on Alert Yellow.’
“Huh.” I turn back and step forward.
“Think they’ll call us in?” Kale asks.
I shake my head. “No. Yellow is first reserves and base soldiers. We're third responders. We won’t get called unless it’s a direct attack. Torrent’s dead. They’re probably just fighting Alpha challenges.”
“Good. I hate Dragons. I’d rather hang with the sweethearts.” He grins.
“Right? I love this gig.” Luke crosses his arms and bounces his brows.
“Guys, come on. Leave the kids alone.” I mumble.
A red head walks by and catches Luke’s attention. “Too late.” He breaks from the line. “HEY, WAIT!” He yells and chases after her.
“Dudes gonna get his ass creamed one day.” I chuckle and shake my head.
“He’s just having fun, like you should be. That blonde has really pretty eyes.” Kale smacks my arm.
She does.
“No. No way. I don’t care how cute they are. I refuse to run around here like you animals.” I insist.
“More for us.” He hits my arm again. “See ya in the morning.” He says as a group of girls walk by. “Ladies. How are you liking the camp?” He joins the circle and walks off with them.
Honestly, right now, I’m the only adult in the room. This is ridiculous.
I move forward in line when I feel a small tap on my back.
I smelt her before I turned. I’m met with eyes as big as saucers. Flushed, pink cheeks and a fidgety little girl, playing with her fingers.
“Can I help you?” I ask as I give her a once over. I’m really loving the leggings and short sweaters she likes to wear. Even her nervousness is adorable. Quit tempting me, damn it!
“Uh… yeah. I kind of want to say sorry for being awful today. I’m just not use to this sort of thing.” She says quietly.
“I understand. Thank you for apologizing.” I say with a deep, authoritative voice.
“You’re welcome.” She looks around then turns back. “Is it OK now? Like do I have to start at 5 tomorrow?”
I smirk. I knew there was a motive. “Yes.”
“Damn it! Come on! I said I’m sorry.” She protests.
“Sarah. You will serve your punishment and no amount of groveling will change my mind. Now, go away.” I raise my chin and wave her away.
She scowls at me, whips around and storms back to her friends. For a fleeting moment, I observe how sexy she looks when she’s mad. When her eyes narrow like that, she really does have gorgeous lashes and cheekbones. Her flushed skin really is like porcelain.
The other thing I observed, she’s a damn instigator and manipulator. I bet she gets away with murder back home that’s why she’s tearing around town all the time.
Well, baby. This Alpha isn’t a sucker. I won’t get pulled into your games. No matter how much my wolf wants to. This is the military. There’s no favorites here. Unless you’re a first year douche riding your celebrity like a fucking flying carpet, but I digress.
As far as Sarah Reynolds goes, she may be beautiful, but she’s dangerous. Dangerous to me and my mental health. The less time I spend with her the better.
