Chapter 72
Chapter 72
Aurelia hesitated for a while. She held her ivory phone tightly to the point it was warming up. Finally, she put it aside and took out her original phone to call Charles.
At this time, Charles was in a high–end club in Xandenia, sitting face–to–face with some people he did not want to socialize with but could not afford to offend. He was troubled by the fact that he couldn’t find any excuse to leave.
Aurelia happened to call at that moment, and Charles was so ecstatic.
He feared Aurelia would not know his present awkward situation, so he was one step ahead and apologized as soon as he answered the call.
“Much apologies, Ms. Swanson. I happened to meet an old classmate who I’ve not seen for many years, so I delayed the meeting with you. Don’t worry. I will be there soon.”
Hearing this, Aurelia was stunned for a moment. Then, she immediately knew Charles must have been entangled in something troublesome, or he would not have spoken as such.
She promptly understood him and replied. “You’re always punctual, Charles, so I was confused about why you were late without letting me know. It turns out you met your old classmates. Anyway, why don’t I just come over and pick you up? After you finish chatting, we can have dinner together.”
“I wouldn’t want to trouble you. How about I go to your place, Ms. Swanson? You don’t need to pick me up.”
Charles said with a moderately regretful look. Obviously, he was deliberately acting to show to the people sitting opposite.
him.
Even if they knew it was an act that Charles put up to get away from the place, no one knew who called him. It was also a coincidence, which gave him an excuse.
“What an ignorant sly fox!” One of them, a young man with long flowing hair, cursed inwardly.
With a gloomy look, he took a whiff of the imported cigar and threw a meaningful glance at a middle–aged man about Charles‘ age sitting at the side.
The man noticed the long–haired man’s signal and immediately raised his voice brightly.
“Charles, since you said you’re working under a new boss, you should introduce them to us, seeing how we’re your old classmates. Don’t hog all the chances of making money for yourself.”
After hearing those words, a trace of anger and contempt flashed through Charles‘ eyes.
The wretched Declan obviously wanted to drag Charles into the thieves‘ den. If Charles were still working for Elite Securities, he would have said nothing if they blocked him here and compromised. At most, he would only be wasting a little bit of time.
Now, he worked for Aurelia. Not only was she generous, but she also provided a working environment that could not have been more excellent for him.
Aurelia may not have a background comparable to these people before him, but Charles could not resist her generosity. Although the people before him were scions from big cities, Charles felt their paths diverge from how they mingle with despicable people like Declan.
Besides, they knew nothing about stock market finance. They thought they could make money in the stock market just because they had some inside information.
After all, what they wanted was none other than trying to suck the cash out of retail investors.
They asked him to be a trader, but Charles apologized inwardly and scorned the idea of joining them.
However, Charles could not say it out loud. After all, no matter how spoiled they were, their capabilities were beyond Charles. He could not afford to offend them.
This was also the reason why he was stuck there for so long.
He had already used the phone call as an excuse to tell them he was about to leave tactfully.
He did not expect Declan and the other spoiled brats to be so unreasonable that they interrupted Charles loudly while he was still on the phone.
They were obviously also threatening Aurelia on the other end of the phone.
Of course, Charles could not stay calm.
Yet, he could not vent his anger. Instead, he felt a little annoyed and regretful at that moment. He should not have dragged
Aurelia into this.
Aurelia may have some backing if she were in Navarre, but they were in Xandenia. Darkness lurked here.

Even if she was the darling daughter of Navarre County, she could not do as she pleased in Xandenia. Besides, Aurelia was a woman. If they really wanted to get their hands on her. Charles could only let her be humiliated with him, let alone be able to take care of her.
Thinking of this, Charles almost immediately said. “Ms. Swanson, my classmates are too enthusiastic. How about we postpone the meeting to tomorrow? I can’t make it there today.”
Naturally. Aurelia heard the mocking and arrogant voices of unfamiliar people from the other end of the call.
She would not have known about this if she had not called Charles.
Now that she found out Charles was in an awkward, troubling, and ridiculous situation that he could not escape, Aurelia could not ignore it as his new boss.
After a brief silence, she asked calmly. “Charles, where are you now? I’ll come pick you up and meet your classmates.”
“Ms. Swanson, you really don’t have to!”
Hearing that Aurelia wanted to come, Charles did not understand why she was coming to support and help him.
The urge to work hard for her sake surged within him.
Yet, this was followed by a deeper layer of worry. He was concerned Aurelia could control the scene when she arrived. After all, these spoiled brats all had impressive backgrounds.
“Charles, where are you?”
Aurelia asked again firmly. She clearly had made up her mind to come over.
Charles hesitated momentarily and noticed the mocking gazes of those people out of the corner of his eyes. Although he felt very sullen and humiliated, he could only utter the address of the place.
Aurelia hung up the phone and did not leave immediately. Instead, she sat in the car and quietly combed through the conversation with Charles.
After five minutes, she raised her head and looked at Andrew. “Please head to Regency Club.”
Andrew did not hesitate. He started the car and got back on the road.
Aurelia raised the partition in the car, took out the ivory phone, searched for Jacob’s number, and called him.
The other end of the phone did not make her wait for long. The call was answered after the second ring. “Aurelia? Did you
miss me?”
