Chapter 7
Chapter 7
“Auri, it’s not Marcellus‘ fault. You don’t understand. Don’t quarrel with your husband over such a small matter when you return home! I have some things to take care of, so I’ll return to the office. Tell your mom that I won’t have dinner at home!TM
Aurelia knew that Michael was going back to handle things.
However, she still felt uneasy before everything was resolved. She quickly stopped him, saying, “Dad…”
“Hmm? Auri, is there something else?”
“Dad, is it difficult for you to close all the loopholes in such a short amount of time? If you’re having difficulties, please don’t hide it from me. I have some personal savings! Although it’s not much, I have a few million dollars. In any case, let’s make sure to pay off everything!”
Michael was slightly shocked. “Auri, where did you get so much personal savings?”
“Dad, have you forgotten? When I married Marcellus, his father gave me a 5% share of Marcellus Corporation as a betrothal gift. Just recently, his father asked to buy it back!”
Michael’s surprise indeed subsided when he heard this. “I see.
“Yes, Dad, don’t worry about it. Let me handle this matter!”
“But Auri, that money is yours!”
“Dad, you’re my dad! Both Mom and I can’t live without you. If something happens to you, how can Mom and I live? Besides, you were helping Marcellus in the first place, which made you a target. Using the money I received from the Francois family for selling my shares to make up the financial shortfall is the right thing to do!”
“Auri! Oh, my sweetheart!”
Michael looked at his daughter with a sense of relief.
It seemed like she had suddenly become more mature.
“Dad, it’s decided, okay?”
“Okay, Angel. Since you’ve thought it through and made a decision, what else can I say? But remember, you and your husband should get along well. Don’t quarrel over this matter!”
Upon hearing her father use the nickname he used when she was a child, “Angel,” Aurelia knew that her father’s mind was completely at ease.
She couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief, though she still maintained a slightly annoyed expression on her face. She said in a somewhat willful manner, “Humph, Dad, you’re so biased! You’re all siding with him!”
Hearing Aurelia’s childish words, Michael burst into laughter. “Haha!”
Aurelia also wiped her tears and smiled.
“Hey! What are you and your daughter talking about, Michael? You two look so happy!”
At this moment, Melanie also returned with groceries.
Aurelia and her father exchanged glances and shook their heads at Melanie in unison. “Nothing!”
Hearing this, Melanie laughed at their synchronized response. “Look at how well you two sync with each other. There’s nothing? Fine, I won’t ask anymore. I’ll cook! You two can watch TV!” As she said that, she smiled and headed toward the kitchen with the shopping bags.

Aurelia took the opportunity to hug Michael’s arm and rested her head against it. She whispered, “Dad, look how happy Mom is. It’s because we’re by her side. So we must all be well.”
“Yes, Angel. Don’t worry. I know what to do!”
His daughter’s tears and logical and emotional persuasion prompted Michael to reconsider his position.
After having dinner at home with his daughter, Michael returned to work at the sheriff’s office.
As he was going upstairs, he happened to see Yves coming downstairs.
In a moment of enlightenment, he respectfully stood to the side of the stairs, and when Yves approached, he greeted him. loudly, “Sheriff Longley, please go ahead first!”
Not only Yves, but even his secretary, who was following behind and respectfully carrying his bag, was quite surprised.
Everyone knew that Michael had always been Christopher’s right–hand man and confidant in the council.
Until today, he had been subtly wooing and pressuring Yves without showing his true intentions. He behaved slickly by neither rejecting nor accepting Yves.
“What happened today?” Yves wondered.
Not only did Michael take the initiative to greet Yves, but he also presented himself with a humble posture, clearly wanting
everyone to see it.
In fact, there were quite a few people around who, upon seeing this scene, felt startled or puzzled in their hearts.
They had all been on the political scene for a long time, and they could easily see that Michael’s actions, regardless of the reasons behind them, represented one thing. The winds were changing!
Yves was clearly the happiest person about this.
Although he was a second–generation politician, his family had already said he had to rely on his own abilities to rise. If he couldn’t hold on to a position as small as a county sheriff, how could he talk about climbing up in the future?
However, he really underestimated Navarre. That old geezer, Christopher, who had risen from being a county sheriff himself, had served for one term and then held the position of county council speaker in the council for eight years.
In the past 10–odd years, he ran a tight ship while managing Navarre.
Although he was going to retire from Congress after serving his full term, as long as he remained in his position for one more day. Navarre would not belong to Yves.
He had already been here for more than a year, and he couldn’t even control the situation in the county government, let alone have a say in the council.
The crucial factor was his relationship with his chief deputy sheriff, Michael, who didn’t show any inclination toward him, which frustrated Yvés.
He had tested him openly and secretly countless times, but Michael remained calm and composed.
Just as he was preparing to completely take Michael down…
Michael unexpectedly turned around today and showed goodwill toward him. Could it be that the news had accidentally leaked, and Michael found out?
Yves wasn’t sure about it!
Nevertheless, no matter what, Michael’s sudden actions in front of so many people today satisfied Yves.

Especially when he saw that the other deputy speakers and deputy sheriff’s were now unintentionally starting to show reverence in their eyes. After all, they usually didn’t regard him, the newly appointed and suddenly emerged county sheriff,
with much respect.
