Chapter 52
Chapter 52
Time flew. Aurelia couldn’t imagine anymore whether she had really been together with Channing back then. Her life’s journey could have avoided that series of tragedies and pain.
She responded, “Channing, don’t bring the topic back to me. Let’s talk about you. You’re a talented young man with a bright future. I don’t believe there isn’t a girl chasing after you!”
With his youthful and vibrant gaze, Channing openly expressed his admiration, saying, “Aurelia, you’ve become so cheerful. All right. Let’s not discuss our own matters anymore. By the way, you didn’t really come to Xandenia just to treat me to a meal, did you? To be honest, I haven’t been able to be of much help to you. Otherwise, Mr. Swanson’s situation wouldn’t have turned out like this…”
Speaking of this, he paused, and Aurelia immediately realized that he had misunderstood.
He probably thought that when she asked him last time to introdure her to Jacob, it was to help Michael secure his official position. Now that Michael had been transferred, it was obvious that Jacob hadn’t made any efforts. Channing probably felt that his influence wasn’t sufficient enough to help Aurelia, which was why he mentioned not being able to help her out.
He had no idea that the current situation was the favorable outcome that Aurelia couldn’t even beg for!
Therefore, as soon as Aurelia realized that he had misunderstood her, she explained immediately, “Channing, please don’t underestimate yourself. Honestly, you really helped me a lot last time. It’s true! My dad even mentioned yesterday that he hadn’t seen you for a long time and asked me to tell you to come over for a meal when you have timel”
“Really?” he asked.
“Of course!” Aurelia responded.
“However, Mr. Swanson is…” Channing still felt a little ashamed.
Aurelia lowered her voice and said, “The situation in Navarre is quite complicated, and it’s a good thing that my dad managed to escape from it!”
Aurelia didn’t want to hide anything since Channing was someone she trusted. She believed that Channing could understand what she meant by saying that.
As expected, Channing’s eyes lit up immediately. “So that’s the case. I understand now! Aurelia, why did you come this time?”
“I still need your help, Channing. I want to invite that man for a meal!” she replied.
“Mr. Miller?” he asked.
“Well, do you think it’s feasible?” she asked back.
“Well, I can’t give you a definite answer right now. All I can say is that I’ll try my best to arrange it for you. As for whether he’ll agree or not, I can’t say
for sure!” Replied Channing.
Aurelia knew that Channing was probably in a difficult position as well. After all, Jacob was the foremost childe in Nuthana. Although Channing also worked in Nuthana, he was only a secretary in the secretariat. His subordinates might hesitate to offend him, but when it came to the scion, Channing’s status seemed less significant.
She said, “Channing, I’m counting on you for this. It’s fine if it’s not feasible. I just think that Mr. Miller has helped my dad, so since I’m here in Xandenia, I should meet him and thank him in person!”
“Well, I understand! Just wait for my news,” replied Channing.
“All right. I’ll stay in Xandenia for three to five days. Give me a call anytime if you have any updates!” Aurelia said.
“Okay!” Replied Channing.
At Ballistics Gold Club, Jacob walked around and threw his golf club to the caddy next to him while talking on the phone.
Jacob’s personal secretary, Marco, approached him and offered him a soft, white towel to wipe off his sweat.
Jacob waved his hand and hung up the phone after saying a few words.
Seeing that Marco still held the towel, clearly having something to say, Jacob raised his hand and said, “Go ahead. What’s the matter?”
“Mr. Miller, State Governor Miller has requested you to go home, this afternoon!” Marco said.
“What? My dad asked me to go home?” Jacob’s face darkened slightly the moment Marco uttered those words. He then glared at Marco and said, “Tell me the truth. Did you secretly report to my dad behind my back?”
“Mr. Miller, how could I dare to do that? Absolutely not!” Seeing Jacob’s fierce gaze, Marco felt overwhelmed and repeatedly protested his innocence and justified his loyalty.
He exclaimed inwardly. “Who is State Governor Miller? People wait all day long to see him, and no matter how I try, I never get a turn!”
“What does my dad want from me?” Jacob asked.
Marco lowered his head and didn’t dare to say anything, thinking, “How could I get to know?”
Chapter 52
Forget it. What else do you have to say? Can you just say it all at once? Don’t waste my time!” Jacob was impatient.
Marco felt even more unjustly accused. He thought to himself, “Wasn’t you, Mr. Miller, the one who interrupted my report? And now you’re blaming me again!*
However, he could only silently harbor such grievances and dare not utter a single word. Instead, he adopted a more formal attitude and quickly responded, “Also, Mr. Yeager’s office sent an official letter asking you to go to Druobridge in two days to attend an internal conference on the orders of the Logistics Team A.”
“Well, that’s good news. Hayden is quite efficient. He has already taken care of the order matter so promptly. Got it. You’re responsible for booking tickets!” Responded Jacob.
Marco replied, “Yes, Mr. Miller. One more thing. Mr. Moore called and said that he wanted to treat you to a meal and express gratitude for your help in
Navarre last time!”
Of course, Mr. Moore whom Marco mentioned was Channing.
Marco didn’t sound very serious while reporting this matter. After all, in his opinion, Channing was merely a junior secretary in Nuthana’s government office. He did keep up with Jacob’s pace to a certain degree but was not one of his closest associates.
Jacob would certainly turn down such a dinner invitation.
Otherwise, if he were to attend events where people of Channing’s status invite him, Jacob’s reputation as the foremost childe in Nuthana would become as worthless as theirs.
Marco’s thought was correct. If it were someone else making this kind of call, Jacob would have casually instructed him to decline.
However, today’s situation was a little special.
In other words, at this particular moment, something in Jacob’s mind was triggered by certain words. Thus, instead of rejecting it directly, he stopped in his tracks and had a deep thought. “Oh? Really?”
The word that triggered Jacob’s thoughts was “Navarre.”
He suddenly remembered that the woman who served Hayden was none other than the daughter of the former deputy sheriff of Navarre..
He heard she was Channing’s classmate from high school, but he forgot her name. All he remembered was that her last name was Swanson.
Channing called to invite him for a meal today. He wondered if that woman was also here.
Jacob’s imaginative thinking was undeniably good. He couldn’t help but be curious about what the woman who served Hayden that night looked like and how she managed to satisfy Hayden so much.
