Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Melanie York was delighted to see Aurelia suddenly come back. The smile on the former’s face was still worry–free and peaceful since she did not know what would happen.
As Aurelia thought of her sickness and scrawny, skinny figure later on, she felt like crying.
Right after Aurelia entered the house, she hugged Melanie’s warm body tightly and sobbed. “Mom!”
“Hmm… What’s wrong. Auri? Oh my, why are you crying? What’s going on? Did you quarrel with Marcellus?”
Aurelia hurriedly shook her head and wiped the corners of her eyes. “No, I just miss you, Mom!”
“Silly cheeky girl, just come back when you miss me. I’m not far away from you. Why are you crying? You scared the heck out of me. I thought my precious Auri was wronged!”
Looking at Melanie’s clueless and carefree face, Aurelia tried her best to control her emotions.
Aurelia told herself not to scare Melanie. The latter did not know their happy family would be gone forever in two days.
The main purpose of Aurelia’s rebirth and coming back to life again was to change that unfortunate destiny. Hence, she must be strong–willed.
“Mom, I want to eat the meatballs you made! I’m craving for it.”
“Okay. I’ll go to the supermarket and buy some fresh meat. Fortunately, it’s still early, and I can make it in time. I coincidentally also ordered a cake. I know you certainly will go on a date with Marcellus tomorrow, so I want to celebrate your birthday in advance today,” Melanie was beaming when she said all that to Aurelia.
“By the way, call your father later and ask him to come home for lunch..
“Okay, got it, Mom! I’ll call him right now. Be careful when you’re on the way to buy groceries.”
“I don’t need you to remind me. Oh, also, will Marcellus come over to eat?”
While changing her shoes and preparing to go out, Melanie did not see the coldness on Aurelia’s face after hearing. Marcellus name.
“No. He’s busy with his company stuff. I’ll be the only one eating at home today.
“Oh, that’s okay. I’ll be going now.”
After Melanie left, Aurelia called her father Michael’s office almost immediately.
It was Michael’s secretary, Felix Wellington, who answered the call.
Less than two days after Michael was taken away by the officers from the Office of State Inspector General, Felix was the one who took the initiative and went to the governor’s office to turn himself in and report an offense.
Felix was also the first person who rebelled and hit them when they were at their lowest after Michael was arrested.
In the end. Michael was sentenced to life imprisonment. However, because of Felix’s meritorious service and his taking the initiative to confess, he did not go to jail but was transferred to a small county below Navarre and became the chief of the
Bureau of Civil Affairs.
Therefore, Aurelia hated Felix very much in her previous life.
Although Aurelia was unable to deal with Marcellus in the end, she still had the ability to handle Felix.
Just four years before Aurelia’s death in the car accident, Felix was prosecuted by the judiciary for a massive amount of
corruption and moral conduct issues. He had been sentenced to ten years and six months of imprisonment.
However, Felix had only served in prison for less than two months and “accidentally” fell off the bed to death.
That kind of accident happened every day in prison, so no one doubted anything was off about it.
This time, Aurelia, who was reborn and came back here, would certainly not give Felix a second chance to stab her family in the back. At the same time, she would also not let that ungrateful man live peacefully.
At that moment. Aurelia still politely asked Felix to transfer the phone to Michael.
Michael was surprised and happy to receive a call from his precious daughter. “Auri, why did you suddenly call me? What’s the matter?”
Hearing Michael’s cheerful and gentle voice, tears pooled in Aurelia’s eyes again.
Still, Aurelia replied lightheartedly. “Dad, can’t I call you even when nothing is going on?”
“Of course, you can. My precious daughter can call me at any time!”
“Dad, come home now! I have something important to tell you.”
“Now? Auri, I’ve got a meeting later. When the meeting is over, I’ll-”
“No, Dad, it’s really important. Please come back now!”
Aurelia had a habit of acting like a spoiled child with her parents since a long time ago. Now, although the soul in her body had passed through a whole cycle of life, her girly willfulness was still unleashed without hindrance when talking to Michael, who always spoiled and loved her.
Hearing Aurelia’s insistent request, Michael, who had been resisting for a while, was ultimately defeated. “All right, all right. I’ll come home now.”
Twenty minutes before Michael got home, Aurelia had already rehearsed in her mind several sets of arguments to persuade him.
After choosing the safest plan that would arouse Michael’s suspicion the least, only then did Aurelia feel relieved.
Aurelia walked around and around in the house that was full of warm memories, she then picked up the house phone and started to make some calls.
However, when Aurelia thought that some information regarding Michael might have already been sent to the Office of State Inspector General, she could not help but suspect the police were monitoring their calls.
To be on the safe side, Aurelia put down the landline and used her phone to make several calls.
One of the calls was dialed to her senior high school classmate, Channing Moore, who worked in the Tertiary Office of the secretariat of the state capital, Xandenia.
Channing was one year older than Aurelia, and his hometown was also Navarre. His father, Lionel Moore, used to be the chief deputy speaker of Navarre. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, so he retired due to illness.
Even so, the Moore family still had a strong presence in the political scene.
That was also why Channing, at such a young age, was already a secretary of the government office of the capital of Nuthana.
Although Channing was not in the most important Primary Office or Secondary Office, the target group of the Tertiary Office’s service was the chief deputy sheriff.
As the saying went, a rising tide lifted all boats. Everyone was envious of Channing, who was the secretary of the Tertiary Office of the county government office.
Chapter 4
The reason why Aurelia remembered to call Channing at that time was that he was her classmate, and she had no other relations in the state capital. She could only ask for help from him at the moment if she wanted to save Michael.
Secondly, Channing was a sociable person who had many connections.
Also, Channing was the scion of a wealthy and political family at least.
After Channing went to Xandenia, in terms of politics, he took off like a duck to water. It was rumored that he had a good relationship with those scions of political families from the state capital.
In Aurelia’s previous life, she did not care much about anything to do with Channing because she had never thought she would end up like that.
However, the situation was different now.
