The Duty Of The Heir (Book 3): Chapter 14
Spring City
The blaring ring of my phone rips me from sleep. Geneva’s name flashes on the screen. I answer.
‘Geneva?’ I groan, voice heavy with sleep.
‘You still in bed?’ she fires back.
‘Yeah, late night,’ I mutter, rubbing my eyes, trying to shake off the fog of sleep.
‘She called. Just got off the phone with her,’ she says, tension thick in her voice.
I’m suddenly sitting upright, sleep forgotten. ‘Any clues?’
‘Oh yeah,’ she confirms, and I can practically hear her biting her lip.
‘What did she say?’ My heart’s doing a weird drum solo now.
Geneva’s whisper sends chills down my spine. ‘She’s got the dirt on Duke. Stuff Aisling needs to hear. He’s been playing dirty, Elena.’
‘Seriously?’ My voice is a mix of shock and excitement.
‘I’m freaking out here,’ Geneva admits.
My brain’s already in overdrive. ‘He’s cheating, right? Has to be.’
‘That’s my bet. But it might be even nastier,’ she says, worry dripping from each word.
I’m all in now. ‘Tell her to grab that cash offer today. I’m dying to know Duke’s dirty secrets.’
‘Okay,’ Geneva agrees, her voice firm.
And we hang up. I’m left sitting in bed, heart racing, mind spinning, wondering what in the world Duke’s been up to.
