Perseus’ POV ~

We have been searching for Jack Black, diligently.. for two weeks. Paulina has gotten clingy, not that we’re complaining.. but Mom said it’s normal. She’s napping on the couch we had brought into the conference room.. so she didn’t have to lie down in a different room. It makes her anxious.

Brandon and Aaron were showing aerial photographs of rural areas of Missouri. Aaron said “We haven’t seen any place that would indicate a pack.. very little movement can be detected.. In all fairness, it’s difficult to get an accurate visual from the drones.. the tree canopy is thick as hell!”

I nodded “Get trackers out there.. I want the location of this prick! He is a threat to our Luna. That can not be allowed! Our children need their mother.. as much as we need our mate. I will destroy anyone who is a danger to any of them!”

Paulina roused.. walking to me she kissed me and climbed into my lap. She whispered “I felt your stress. What is it? Word on Black?” I shook my head, smiling at her “No word on Black.. which is why I’m anxious. He has to know Brennan is dead.. so it only makes sense he is plotting and planning. We just don’t know where he’s doing that.”

She sits up.. “I imagine he’s on the move. He knows I’m not coming to him.. so, if he wants me.. he will have to come to us! I think we should stop trying to locate him.. and let him show up! We’re wasting resources.. and time.. looking for him. We step up our patrols.. extend the town protection. Alert neighboring packs to the dangers Black poses.. and have them send us a heads up, if they’re aware of any movement by large groups.”

Roman laughed “That actually makes sense. He will come.. of that there is no doubt. So we wait.. and keep a watchful eye!” I grinned “Our mate makes a valid point.. Beauty AND brains. You, my love, are a double threat.”

She giggled “Double threat for double mates?” Roman picks her up off my lap “I can live with that!” She giggled again..and told him “Like I would give you a choice!”

Mom and Dad came in.. Mom said “We have news.. I will let Dad fill you in! I want some time with my daughter..” She took Paulina’s hand and the set on the couch.. She opened her tablet and said “We should take a look at baby furniture and nursery items.. I want you to have exactly what you want for your pups!” And they started shopping.

I looked at Dad and said “You have news.. and we are struggling to find anything to point us in the right direction. I’m frustrated.. Ridiculously so!”

Dad nodded “Alpha Miller, over at Orange River now, said a man showed up at his border gates, last night. Claiming to be an Alpha.. although Miller said he lacked the aura. He asked after Brennan.. but refused to leave his name. When Miller told him the Goddess had removed Brennan from this realm, he said the man snarled “That bitch figured it out” and ran back into the woods.”

Roman said “It had to be Black.. and his parting statement indicates he’s known who Paulina is to the Goddess, all along. He’s going to make his move soon! We will be ready!”

I looked over at Brandon and told him “I want double patrols in town.. and our borders are to be triple covered.. I’m not worried about killing this prick.. but I will be damned before he takes anyone else from us!”

Brandon nodded and left to reformat the patrol schedules. Aaron said “I’m sending trackers to Orange River to try and pick up a trail. At least, get an idea of direction.”

Paulina said “He is headed here. I feel it. He really has no other choice, at this point. If he knows I am the Goddess’s vessel.. then, he has to make his move. Unfortunately, his move leads to his own demise. And before you ask how I can feel him, I have no idea.. But, I believe it has to do with one.. maybe both.. of the twins. They can literally mind link me.. and communicate!”

Mom jumps up “Oh! This is wonderful! Our new babies are gifted.. even more so than I could have imagined! They carry the blood of the Goddess! They are elves and hellhound! I can’t get over it! They are already communicating.. they can detect negative aura.. and the location.. Already! Already!! Do you have any idea how powerful they are!?”

I sat.. concentrating on my pups.. I reached out inside my soul.. locating the tiny gold threads of their tethers. I pulled first one.. then the other. In my link, I hear two tiny voices say ‘HEY!’ and I laughed out loud.

I told Roman “We can communicate with them! I just pulled their tethers and they responded simultaneously.” He grinned and we watched his eyes dim.. then he laughed. “They’re feisty! I am loving this! How fucking awesome is this!?”

Paulina said “No more cussing! One of my muffins just asked me what fucking means.. anddd they ask that you do not yank their tethers. Well.. okay.. I asked.. but when you did it, they both jumped! Both times! So.. don’t! Just don’t!”

I laughed “I’m sorry, Angel. That was my fault. I wanted to identify their tethers before I attempted a link. Now I can just speak to them. I’m with Roman on this! How many parents can say they have reciprocated conversations with their unborn pups? It’s fuuu.. flipping awesome!”

Roman laughed “Yep! I see many time outs in out future. Our language is gonna be an issue. However, I wouldn’t be opposed to a spanking.” Wiggling his eyebrows at Paulina. She laughed and rolledher eyes.
