Chapter MISTAKE 121
Chapter 121: Acting.
"Should you behave this way? After all, Mom is still your mother!" Hazel protested.
Anya suppressed the urge to roll her eyes. These two were really getting involved in their acting.
"I already have all of my father's things; I am not sure if what you have is of any importance to me. You should take it out first so I can decide. Anya answered.
She already guessed they probably no longer had the contents of the safe when she saw their reaction. Daniel had said that there was no need for her to meet them to get it back That meant that he probably had other methods. Anya felt like laughing when she saw through this but held back.
"I did not carry it with me," Shaina said hurriedly. She knew she did not have anything to show Anya. She had to stall till she found those documents.
"Besides, you have so many guards; what if they snatch it?" Hazel asked.
"Then, you can pick a neutral place and meet with my lawyers. We will have the things checked with witnesses. If it's something I want, I will hear about your issues." Anya gave them a out. But how could they take it? They no longer had the things in the safe. away
Seeing no way out, Shaina smiled and tried to smooth things over. She realized that Anya was hard to trick.
"We can always do that later. Our home is not far from here; when you have time, let us meet," Shaina offered. Hazel wanted to say more, but she held her back.
Anya did not respond to this; she looked away and glanced at the trees.
Shaina's smile wavered as she sensed Anya's indifference, her heart sinking at the realization that Anya had no interest in reconnecting with her lost mother or helping them. But the forced herself to maintain her composure, hiding her disappointment behind a false smile.
As the managers of the orchard approached Anya and her guards, Hazel's heart sank with a sinking feeling of dread. Her grandmother had banned her from entering the orchard when she brought her friends to pick apples without care in her teens. She could hardly believe that she had been caught red-handed as she snuck into the orchard
with her mother.
Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment as the managers apologized to Anya for the intrusion. The managers knew this mother-daughter pair, and they did not want to offend the Shaw family.
"Mrs. Shaw, I apologize for the situation," one of the managers began, his voice carrying regret and caution as he addressed Anya. "We were not aware that other people had entered the orchard. Please accept our sincerest apologies."
The managers quickly turned to Hazel and Shaina, "Madam, The guest booked the entire orchard today. So we closed the orchard for a private viewing. How about we talk somewhere else?" The manager said to Shaina.
The manager did not know their relationship and was more worried about offending Anya.
Shaina's stomach churned with anxiety as she watched Anya's impassive expression. Was she really not interested in talking to her more? She was her mother after all. Don't all children crave their parents love?
She knew that Anya had every right to be angry with her for what happened in the past, but she had thought that a child that had lost their mother would be curious about things. Like why she had left. All of these would have been reason enough for them to talk some more.
Hazel wanted to scold the manager to leave, but aina held her back, she kw Hane's temper. She was on second offense for declaring at the was related to Anya
If the managers heard this, they would definitelypass it on to the old lady at home, her mother-in-Law. If she could not guarantee that Anya would help them, it would not do them good! tell the family about her being a Shum yet.
"Let us inspect other places so not to disturb our guest," the manager said. He knew Shun's temper and did not want to lose his job.
"I have gathered the other staff, and they are all waiting for you." He continued to urge her to leave
Shaina could feel Anya's eyes boring into her, her silent judgment weighing heavily on Shaina's conscience. She knew that they had offended Anya in the past, but she hadn't expected her to not care about her own mother at all. "Alright, I have work to do, so I will leave. Please consider what I have said." Shaina decided leave. She had no choice. The guards were very alert. She could not insist on staying
Hazel, on the other hand, wanted to stay and convince her. She still had to get the Mafia off
her back
But Shaina sent her a cold look, and she simmered down before leaving
But Hazel couldn't shake the feeling of resentment brewing inside her. As she walked away from the orchard, her mind raced with thoughts. She was indignant. It was clear Anya could help them, but she did not care. This angered Hazel a lot.
As she glanced at Anya one last time, her gaze filled with icy determination, Hazel made a silent vow to herself. She may have backed away today, but she will find a way to force her to
"Well, it was nice meeting you, Anya," Shaina said, her voice filled with fake sadness. "I hope we can catch up sometime."
She was trying to guilt Anya, but it did not work.
Anya looked away from them at the trees coldly, her eyes betraying none of the emotions. burning inside her.
She looked away in silence as Hazel and her mother disappeared into the depths of the orchard.
Alone once more
Anya let out a sigh of relief, the tension draining from her shoulders as she suddenly felt incredibly tired for no reason.
All the energy in her drained away.
She knew that her encounter with Shaina had stirred up her emotions and even old memories of her mother. She missed her mother and was insulted by who ever was doing this, but she was determined not to let them win. She was on vacation. She refused to let anyone get her down. She took a deep breath to calm herself. She closed her eyes and let herself be carried away by the gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze and the distant hum of insects in the air. She was trying everything to forget the encounter she just had.
But her mood was chaotic. She would go from anger to indifference to anger again. The breeze and nice views were barely helping.
And as she sat beneath the canopy of the apple tree, Anya knew that she was exactly where she was meant to be, surrounded by the beauty of the orchard, lost in the quiet tranquility of the moment. But her mood was bad.
After a while, she was tired. Since Shana and Hazel's unexpected appearance had spoiled her mood, she found herself growing increasingly tired and eager to return to the hotel. With a sigh, she turned to one of her guards and informed them that she was ready to leave.
The guards nodded and quickly dashed into action, wheeling Anya's chair back towards the entrance of the orchard. They hadn't walked far when Anya's phone suddenly began to ring, startling her out of her reverie. With a curious glance at the caller ID, she saw Daniel's name flashing on the screen. She hesitated for a moment before answering, wondering why he was calling her.
"Hello?" she said, her voice tired.
"Where are you?" Daniel's voice came through the line, his tone soft and tender.
Anya blinked in surprise at the question. "I'm at an orchard," she replied, furrowing her brow in confusion. "Why?"
"I know," he answered.
