Chapter 1
A room in utter chaos.
Brittany Dustin opened her eyes and saw an unfamiliar ceiling.
She forced herself to sit up, and the memory of last night floated in front of her. Growing up with her, her boyfriend of four years, Finn Boulton, chose to leave her to be with her half-sister, Patrina Dustin! She also joined forces with her bastard father to marry her to a sixty-seven-year-old man! In a fit of fury, she got drunk and casually found a handsome guy at the bar, promising that she would give him a hundred thousand dollars to cooperate with her in a fake marriage.
And the other party actually agreed! And...she slept with this handsome guy who only met once!
Memories of the whole night flooded back, and Brittany blushed beet red, covering her face as she glanced at the marriage agreement lying on the wooden bedside table.
Cursing inwardly, she decided alcohol is indeed the devil and she had been way too impulsive!
Sure, she didn't want to marry the old man, but marrying a man she'd only met once was way too risky!
No way!
She must divorce as soon as possible!
Brittany realized her clothes had been changed and had no doubt about who'd done it.
Rubbing her temples, she got out of bed and opened the bedroom door.
A nearly six-foot-tall man was standing by the window, tall and broad-shouldered in his understated gray shirt, his voice deep and husky.
"Granny, you're in the hospital again, aren't you?"
Isaac Salter had just woken up when he received a call from his grandmother. She was repeating the old trick again, forcing him to marry by being hospitalized.
He was a little impatient, but accidentally hit the speakerphone button with his finger.
"Zac, my biggest wish is to see you married. You're almost thirty, and if you don't get married soon, I don't see the point in living..."
The old lady's voice, trembling with tears, reached Brittany and she instinctively stopped in her tracks.
So this guy was also being pushed into marriage by his family!
No wonder he agreed to a fake marriage last night!
Isaac was helpness.
He thought, "Granny, you've played this trick too many times. It doesn't work!"
"Zac, my heart, my head, my whole body hurts everywhere... If you don't bring a wife home soon, I can't live another day... Can I have the chance to see you build a happy family before I leave this world? The doctors all say, I don't have much time left. Zac, you just have pity on me!"
The old lady was still acting.
Isaac remained silent.
Brittany clenched her dress. She could hear that the old woman genuinely wished her grandson would marry soon.
They had already registered their marriage, if she asked for a divorce now, the old lady may be greatly stimulated! And besides, she needed a marriage now anyway.
She might as well put up with it for a while longer!
In the time Brittany was spacing out, Isaac had ended the call. As he turned his head, he met Brittany's hesitant eyes.
"Did you need something?"
He hadn't buttoned it properly, revealing a piece of delicate skin, and Brittany could vaguely see the smooth chest muscles. Brittany suddenly realized something and blushed fiercely! She dared not look at the man's face, her eyes darting: "Um, are we really legally married?"
Isaac put down his phone, buttoned up his shirt, walked over to the bed, and put on his coat.
"Yes."
He had been outmaneuvered last night, but since she had approached him, he might as well make the best of it. After all, he needed a marriage too.
What happened last night seemed natural at the time, but thinking about it now, it was a bit impulsive. He didn't even know the woman's name, let alone her background!
"Your grandmother...I didn't mean to eavesdrop. I just happened to hear..." Brittany explained uncomfortably.
"Well, actually, my grandmother..." Isaac tried to explain.
His grandmother has always been a drama queen, and this scene had been played out countless times!
"It's okay, you don't have to explain." Brittany interrupted him, patting her chest, "Let's cooperate. I'll help you deal with your grandmother, and you help me deal with my family. We don't divorce for now, okay?" Isaac swallowed: "Cooperate?"
"Don't worry, I'll pay you a sum of money during this period, and then we'll be even."
Brittany thought he was worried about her not paying, so she took out a bank card from her bag and handed it to him: "My name is Brittany Dustin, the lady of the Dustin family for now. There's fifty thousand dollars here, consider it as a deposit."
She did say a hundred thousand last night, but she couldn't come up with that much right now, so she had to pay in installments!
Isaac glanced at the bank card. Fifty thousand to buy his marriage was a bit cheap.
But if his grandmother found out that he got a shotgun marriage and then divorced in a flash, who knows how much of a shock she'd get. "Isaac."
He had an important meeting and couldn't waste any more time here.
Isaac... nice name, but this guy seemed too cold.
Looking around, it was a very quaint house with a lot of wooden furniture and a vintage decor style.
"Is this... your house?"
The house was large but desolate, probably abandoned for many years.
Isaac buttoned his tie, exuding an air of elegance. "Yes."
"Who else is in your family besides you and your grandmother?"
Even though they were fake married, she still needed to know the general situation.
"My father divorced when I was young and started a new family. We don't have much contact."
"This house-"
"It was left by my grandfather. I can't sell it. I just lost my job, so I'm temporarily living here."
Isaac found Brittany annoying. They were just fake married, and it wasn't appropriate for her to know so much about him.
Moreover, he had just broken up with the Salter family, and Brittany showed up. What if she was someone the Salter family sent? Wouldn't that be asking for trouble?
So he was very perfunctory about his family affairs.
Brittany's heart thumped.
His grandmother was in the hospital, his father had remarried, and this man was also unemployed and could only live in this lonely old house left by his grandfather... It seemed like his life was pretty tough.
"Mr. Salter, don't worry, I have a stable job, and I can pay the subsequent remuneration. You won't lose out by cooperating with me."
The man was outstandingly handsome, cool and regal, with a flawless face, as beautiful as Adonis visiting Earth.
Brittany swallowed, that handsome face was truly impeccable.
Isaac breezed past Brittany, showing no signs of taking the bank card she was offering, and mumbled, "It's getting late, I am going to work. What about you?"
Seeing that he refused to take it, Brittany guessed that this behavior hurt his self-esteem, and secretly decided to find another opportunity to make up for it. "Hold on a sec."
Brittany dashed back into her room to change clothes.
Meanwhile, Isaac dialed up his assistant, Nathan Jarvis.
"Mr. Salter, everything's set up on our end, the meeting is about to kick off. Are you there yet?"
"Come and pick me up from Salter Manor."
Footsteps echoed, so Isaac hung up and turned around.
Brittany emerged in a light green maxi dress that she had somehow managed to scrounge up. It highlighted her slender waist and flowing hair.
Her eyes sparkling like the sea.
Isaac had to say that this dress fit her very well. She was so good-looking that even Isaac, who was very picky about her appearance, unconsciously looked at her a few more times, and after a while, said, "Let's go."
"My car is at the gate, I'll drop you off."
Brittany grabbed her bag and followed, but Isaac didn't reply.
Their place was down an alley from the main road, and Isaac was walking fast, because the meeting was about to start.
Brittany didn't eat anything in the morning. She was hungry, and she walked slowly, and just after turning a corner, Isaac was nowhere to be seen.
Brittany was confused.
This man was walking too fast! How was he supposed to know which car was hers if she didn't come along?
As Isaac reached the end of the alley, Nathan had been waiting for a while and respectfully said, "Mr. Salter, your ride's here."
Brittany emerged from the alley to see Isaac getting into a car and she froze.
Oh no, he's gotten into the wrong car!
