Eros was staring daggers at Theo, who was twitching uncontrollably on the floor.

I pulled the coat even closer to myself as Theo began trying to answer Eros’s questions.

The King could have killed him in an instant, but something about the connivement with the rogue King and vampires made him control his rage “Who’d he?”

Theo was trembling like a leaf caught in a storm, shaking from head to toe.

“What message?” Eros’s tone was sharp, and it made me flinch, happy that it wasn’t directed at me.

I pulled the coat closer to my body and watched their exchange, I had been sitting on the couch, rubbing my hands together as I tried to process what had occurred in the last two hours.

I had almost been sold and taken advantage of by two different men, one I had recently met and one that was my mate. Theo stole a glance at me and Eros slapped him, “Look at mel!”

Theo was almost on the verge of tears as he answered, “she, they knew that she was staying with you and was your breeder, they were going to hurt her as well.”

The way Eros said those words made me shudder. Had he said that only because he was angry, or had he really meant it? Did he truly care for me, or was simply trying to threaten Theo into giving him more information?

I didn’t know what to think, but I was certain that I heard his voice crack with emotion.

But if he cares deeply for me then why was he suddenly cold towards me?
